MMORPG.com has just learned that Cryptic Studios is looking for a PS3 Engine Programmer, lending creedence to the idea that the game might release for not only the announced PC and XBox360, but for the Playstation 3 as well.

Casually browsing through job listings can be a valuable source of information in the MMO world. Today, while doing just that, MMORPG.com’s Richard Cox came across a listing on the Cryptic Studios website advertising for a Playstation 3 Engine Programmer:

Now, this isn’t the first time that the media has heard rumblings on this matter. N4G, for example, published an article some time ago quoting Cryptic designer Aaron Safronoff as saying that a PS 3 version would be something that the company was interested in, but would not be launching with. A few weeks ago, VG247.com cited a tenuous extra “s” at the end of the word console as a clue that the game was indeed being released for the PS 3. since we already knew that the game was releasing for XBox360, the logic behind this is that by saying that the game was being developed for consoles, the Cryptic rep was speaking about the PS3 as well. Direct questioning from that site led to the cryptic (pardon the pun) reply that “it’s coming to console”.

I play about 90% of my games on the PC so this doesn't really affect me. But I have to say to support a MMO on three platforms sounds like a helluva lotta work both in development costs and customer service.

Good luck with that.

Well thats just wierd....sticking champions onto the PS3 would be in direct competition with Sony's own home grown multi platform super hero mmo.

Where's the logic in that?

Oh yeah and Sony....still waiting on the Dead rising port to the PS3, hurry it up will you.

Don't know if you can run it?

Because more sales for them on 2 consoles instead of 1 = money for them.

Competition does not matter unless it hurts their income... which it wont.

Sony would probably handle the subscription package if it ported to the PS3 anyway so it's a win win situation for them, getting more games that ppl want to play on the PS3 means more consoles sold.

I have a huge feeling this is about Star Trek online being put on the PS3 as that game hasn't been given a public announcement as to which console. Not saying it won't be Champions Online at some point, but my guess is they will put out Champs online on PC and xbox and Star Trek Online on PC and PS3, to cover both consoles.

Personally, I have a PS3 and do not own an xbox of any kind. If I can play these games on my PC and PS3 then I am one happy gamer and customer of Cryptic.

Looking Forward to:Final Fantasy 14!!! STO and STOR and the Wheel of Time.

Playing: WoW,FFXI,LOTRO,EQ2,WAR,AoC(off and on)

I have no problem with them designing this for console too, IF they require keyboard and mouse on the console.  If you let console players use a controller, the UI has to be dumbed down to such an extent it effects the PC players immensely.

Unfortunately more than 90% of the consoles out there have neither.

As long as the PC version is good, I don't care what they put out for consoles.
