I've played the many great startup mmo's that created all of this on day one and onward until they were ruined. I dropped out of mmo news due to time constraints, but recently wanted to recall my past and get into a 'different' kind of mmo.

The past few weeks I decided to check out Darkfall and find some information on it. Unfortunately I decided to check mmorpg's forums for views and writeups on the game's progress over the past few weeks. There has been 90% retardation on these forums and 10% information.

It is clear what has happened in the mmo industry for fans: there are the diluted and the hopeful. There are those of us who remember back when EQ1 released and it was the most magnificent, sophisticated incredible game on the market, and so forth with successive MMO's. It seems that over time and with the release of the cookie cutter mmo template there have been only two outlooks, and this is where you all are crying fanboi or troll. When people say "everquest" (mind you in a negative manner) for graphics and gameplay I think that the game is more appealing.

Is it so wrong to be hopeful for the idea behind Darkfall? I feel that 75% of the people on this forum have been the diluted. They probably don't understand the idea behind something different and completely new. Everquest, AC, DAoC were all run stupidly at their beginning, and Everquest began the graphical mmorpg genre. Even if the launch is shit, even if the CS is oblivious, and even if it seems like the future is dismal, there is potential. The diluted have become used to the shit such as WoW and other mmos, as long as they stable they are happy. I doubt 80% of the posters here remember MUDS or the horrible service from the very first mmo's on release, and there was something to that. Even if the service is shit at the beginning it means nothing towards the final game.

I look forward to news on Darkfall in six months if I don't have the time to actually buy it and play (I know, I can't buy it right now because it's too hardcore). If it survives the "honeymoon" phase it could last as long as Shadowbane has, which is still going - anyone remember that release and initial gameplay?

I know that my post is too long for most of the forumgoers intellect on this forum, so I'll say this in short: you are all retarded if you can't relax, sit back and watch and read news on the game. Take a chance and have some hope, and perhaps the game will become as addicting and fun as being an idiot on these forums is to you. It certainly seems like 90% of the people, haters or fans, would be happy killing everyone and looting their shit.

I believe the word you're looking for is "deluded".  Nice try, though.

Is the server up?  The lobby says it's online, but then I get a "Lost connection to server" error when it's about to go into the "Loading" page.  A few other people are having problems with it not patching, too.

I haven't seen anyone post about the server being down all day, though.  Another person who can't log in says he could hear his guild ingame while listening to vent.  Just wondering if I have a DF connection problem now.  It's been very stable for me since the sync patch.

Incorrect. They have become diluted by the stale cash-in template mmo's that have become commonplace since EQ's success. There is a difference between the definition of deluded, i.e. delusions of grandeur and being "diluted" i.e. taking the basis of something such as ink and adding too much water.

Are you listening yet?

The context in which you're using the word "diluted" is incorrect.  Regardless, the point of my post is that you've insulted other posters' intelligence, but failed to show any of your own.  People who live in glass houses and all that...

I took a chance and was rewarded when I got into beta.... then lughed my ass off for a week strait. Because immediatly I knew the community was being lied too.  This game wasn't finished, it wasn't even stable. Things like animations and piss-poor character models can be changed, so i wasn't worried... yet here it is 3 months later and the character models and animation are still horrendous for ANY game released in 2009.

Free MMO's have superior animations, sounds and particle effects..!

The CONCEPT of Darkfall is what intrigues us the most, the failed implamentation of thos conepts on Tasos part is what angers the community.  He lied to us, and he is also extremely incompitent, because no amount of $12 million was put into this game.

Darkfall is nothing more than a college experiment by amatures..!

Most MMORPGs on release cause the word potential to be used frequently, DFO however brings out the word hope more often than not.

However since DFO if released (it's still a closed stress test right now) will be hacked to death I don't see it surviving it's full public launch. DFO is now dead in my opinion, it's only surviving in the minds of fallbois since it hasn't been released and will be obliterated by hacks when/if it does.

In six months time we'll see D&L 1.7, with hacks.

I do remember the hours spent in the lobby chat in early EQ waiting for an ETA when the servers would open, and then waiting for an ETA of the ETA, and sometimes even an ETA of the ETA of the ETA.

But, I don't remember somone like Tasos, and I don't remember a legion of rabid irrational fanatics, and I do remember a game with:

Weight: everything had weigth, afecting your stamina when you swing your weapons, how fast you walked depending on what you were carrying, or the damage you took from falling.

Realistic bag. Limited on what you could carry, and very few stackable items.

Severe death penalty.

Amazing PvE.

Unique different race atributes.

Full PVP (in red servers)

Meaningful working factions (good luck being a bad race like ogre or troll, game was very different, nobody would want to sell or buy from you and gurds attack you on sight almost everywhere)

No maps.

No radar.

No teleports.

THIS was an amazing hardcore game, not the emptiness you have now.

That's the problem..... Why wait 6 months? The game should atleast have content and be playable/fun from the start. I remember playing EQ,UO,DAOC and many other games that needed to be tweaked and polished but they had content and were fun from the start so don't try to compare them to this.  Anyways... I know I'm done posting about DF because really what's the point the game is released and any intelligent person can see what they have on their hands.

I'd almost forgotten about the old chatrooms when the servers went down for their 8hr patches or sometimes much much longer.

However even though it suffered it's problems I agree that they pale in comparision with Darkfall, I mean come on a limited release!, I can't think of any other MMO's that only allowed a few thousand in then closed the doors on orders, heck if anything new MMO's have TOO many boxed games available with TOO many servers up.

I was interested in giving Darkfall a shot, but with the revelation of the speedhacks and other exploits I certainly won't be wasting my money anyday soon.

You already forgot Brad Mc Grind aka the Jolly Green Ranger? Inventor of camping (for days) for loot and grind. The guy that invented hardcore and mindless repetition of tasks. He single handly put the genre back 10 years before it had even taken off.  EQ did have some charm though.

There's a difference between "talking about the cons" and blatantly lying and spewing rubbish about a game. Unfortunately, most of the "negative" posts on this forum are the latter, and come from people who have more then likely never tried the game.

Negative criticism is welcome in my mind, I'm sure everyone doesn't think Darkfall is as great or as fun as I currently do. But blatant, retarded trolling, which comprises most of the posts and threads on this forum, is ridiculously stupid and the primary reason why I have stopped writing about my in-game experiences and my reviews of aspects of the game on this site.

It's a shame really, but I'm not the one losing out on anything, I have five hours of classes to get through, no work, and then it's back to enjoying the hell out of Agon.

Suggest everyone taking out their fanboi hats and start wearing them now.

Oh yea, another insulting post that is supposed to open the forum communites eyes.

Thank you so much for the enlightment. Now if i can only figure out  if i'm diluted or hopeful my day will be made..... and I can go back to reading the debate, the war between pros and cons , fanboys and trolls ....

long live freedom of speech, give your views... take your turn in the pit of flames.

As much as I agree with this, I would like to point out it goes both ways. There are fans that make good points to why they like it, then there are those that basically say you re an idiot if you don t like the game becuase of whatever reason. I truly love the ones indirectly trying to convince people to like a game they obviously don t. What alot of people have been saying as rubbish, although in a harsh manner are true. Been there, seen it. The difference between me and a dillusional fanbois is I can see the faults not cover them up and say oh thats a good thing. Anyways, if DFO fixes alot of things I one day will try it but it has a very long way to go before then. I tend to think a year in advance before I buy a MMO, this game had very little lasting power after the first 1000 ganks and being ganked, so it needs more stuff to do before I will join it.

I've already stated Darkfall needs some things fixed. For starters, the bugged mobs needs to be fixed. Hackers need to be dealt with quickly (although I've been lucky enough not to run into one myself). Although the directional and distance oriented sound is phenomenal, I wish they'd get a professional sound guy to do them. Animations aren't game breaking, but could use a little bit of work.

Besides that, I have really nothing to complain about. Love all the aspects of the game, even though I've barely scratched the surface. You should hear my guild during PvP raids in Vent. People are like, "Holy shit this is amazing" and "I can't believe that just happened!" and "That was like Atilla the Hun shit!"

We're all having a blast (have of them don't even sleep anymore it seems like haha).
