As the life cycle of Tabula Rasa comes to an end, the folks at NCsoft have posted a final message to the game's fans.

As we return to Earth, our battle comes to an end. Thank you to all the fans who have supported us for the last few years! We hope you have enjoyed your journey through the galaxy and that the next worlds you visit will be filled with excitement and fun.

We'd like to extend a special thanks to our community - fansite administrators, forum administrators, and friends - for it is your passion and commitment that drives us to keep creating new and unique games. With every ending comes a new beginning, a clean slate, and a new story to be written. Thank you from all of us on the Tabula Rasa team, past and present.

it is always sad to see a game goes offline..

NCsoft just pulled the plug out of it , just like they did with auto assault..

They didn't just 'pull the plug'. Players were bumped up to max level, the devs took over 'boss monsters' and assaulted cities, and the whole thing was a noisy, chaotic, beautiful mess. Laggy as hell, but fun.

Glad to hear it went out with a bang.

It's really too bad that this game didn't work out. There were some great ideas, some great features, and some great innovation. I just hope this doesn't scare off other companies from trying new things.

i often wonder what nc's ceo problem is.  its like he completely misunderstands the american market.

they've never had what i consider a successful mmo here in the states.  when he brought on garriot i swear his expectations were way too high.

i hope their shareholders see how completely inept this guy is at understanding the western market.  in tight the tight times the global economy is seeing right now i hope their shareholders do the smart thing and invest their money elsewhere.

Games i'm playing right now...

Tabula Rasa Was the first MMO I bought and payed for. I am sad to see it go and I hope from the ashes a new game like it will rise. I loved the action and the instant gratifaction you got because you almost didn't go a minute with out blowing something up or bringing about mass genecide for some poor creature.

It was fast and fun a real casual gamers MMO. I enjoyed it to the fullest and I got my first 50 well shortly after they annouced the closing only because I played the game extreamly casulally just sitting down and enjoying the fireworks.

I wish someone would do more things like this in games.

I saw a few videos of this game.  It looked very good.  Shame, I would have liked to play it.  Why did they close it?

many features within TR were amazing.  They just focused on the wrong things.  At some point they decided to become a class based dungeon and instance game.  They needed to Keep the story, the combat, the weapons, and take away the class sytem and instead spreading out time and resources focusing on each class they can focus on a large universal skill system that darkfall is using.  With that set they can focus on PvP, clan and social features(which were very lacking), and a better crafting system that actually impacted the world.  There were so many systems in the game that killed it for everyone.  The whole cloning system was some half ass feature they added when some higher up said they had to make a class based mmo.  I know garriott really wanted a skill based game.  They never finished the cover feature which i thought was amazing.  They jus took it out.  When it was released my most favored moment was when my squad was trapped behind a sand bag bunker fighting off wave after wave only surviving because we took less then half dmg from the cover system.  Its sad when you know you cant relive a memory like that.  I'll miss Tabula Rasa my first Sci-Fi mmo.

Sorry to see it go.  I played for a little while after beta but just lost interest after a month or so.  It's always sad to see the plug pulled on any game and this one had a good concept just a tad flawed with the execution.

RIP TR

yes its a good question , why? , why is the market full of pink fantasy mmorpgs ?

now is this game dead and a new fantasy "beauty" will replace it.

I am sorry to see it go in a strange way. I played TR in beta and was horrified. The I returned last September and played until the announcement. At that point I packed my knives and left. I was even having a good time to be honest. The three things that stick out in my mind were the artwork, the sound effects, and that Radar O'Reilly (sp) voice really peaked my sense of humor and enjoyment. There were still several flaws though. I can state that without a doubt, but it was fun for casual gameplay. If you played it as a solo game it could even be challenging at times (I did, so perhaps a flaw there).

Sorry to see it go, better luck in the future to those that helped make it playable after a terrible launch.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

I wasn't a TR player, but am I the only one who finds this final message a little patronizing with a sprinkle of marketing damage control?

I understand that If they invest $1 doing what they normally do they are used to getting X% profit back and that TR came NOWHERE near the X% profit on investment they are used to making in their market, so I can see the buisness end of it, but if it wasn't working for you SELL IT and get your money back!

The IP needed work and it was developing new MMO markets as it expanded old ones, and there are game developers that would kill for that.

Just my 2 cents

While it's a nice sentiment that there would be developer's killing for it, there probably wasn't one or they didn't want to pay as much as NCSoft wanted.  I'm sure they probably did try to sell the game at first (I'd be surprised if they didn't at least try it).  It really is sad to see this go under, especially since this is the second scfi mmo to do so.  I truly hope developers aren't scarred to at least try another scfi mmo (I'm lookin at you Star Trek online and Star Gate Worlds).

Oh there is something I could say about the Stargate Worlds Beta and the chance about it coming back, but the EULA prevents me..... but oh do i have something to say.

I just cant.

Could you at least say whether it's positive or negative?  If you haven't noticed, I'm really, really interested in that game

And they could use your two cents, and mine, and that bloke up there.

NCSoft has actually made it quite apparent that they have no interest in supporting failing "western" titles, for better or worse.

I have no doubt their "western" interest lies in Aion and Champions. If those two fail, I am pretty sure NCSoft as a name in this industry as a "local" developer is toast. If you want to ensure game longevity, pick SOE's superheroes title (they'll keep the servers running in case of failure), meanwhile Aion doesn't seem to have a competitor, and lots of (uninteresting) hype.

Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.
