I'm sitting here and wondering ... Let's look at the real features of this game right now ...

- Crafting sucks.

- There's no economy.

- Combat system is "meh".

- AI is broken.

- World is empty.

- City building is "meh".

- Macroing and exploiting is rampant.

But:

- Huge, well-designed, seamless world.

- Skill system.

- Full Loot

- Full L00t !

- Fool Lewt !!

- F00L L3WT !!!

Even if you look at all those "cool stories", it's either about exploring some place or looting some jerk.

And people are actually loving it !!!

Now, the question is: was it really THAT easy ? Is Full Loot enough to make tons of people have fun even when the rest is just the shell of the game ? Did Aventurine find the "Press here to make money" button of the MMORPG market ?

Did everything just taste purple there for a second?

Prolly because no other games have full loot at all.

eve is beyond full loot... eve is so hardcore, that some of the loot just blows up.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

5,000 - 10,000 is hardly the entire market.

You have to look at the things from a statistical point of view.

They let in just 5000-10000 players, but a very high % of those players are loving the game.

You may argue that the guys playing are not representative of the MMORPG market, but IMHO there's no good reason to believe such a thing.

You cannot say that yet.

Look at AoC. Look at WAR!

Everyone was loving the game and had a blast at launch!

We all know what happened at the end if the first month for both games!

Check here in two to three weeks.

Check again in two subscription cycles.

I tried playing Real Life but the graphics sucked, the community was annoying too.

True, but Darkfall is currently the Big Fish in a small pond. Both those game you mentioned above are guppies in well, an ocean.

Darkfall doesn't require nearly as many subs as AoC or WAR to be labled a success.

May contain nuts.

As a poster above said, it's the honyemoon period. It's just like public quests in WAR. At first everyone was loving it and hailing it as a revolution in MMO's. Fast forward a month or two and the novelty had worn off.

It doesn't matter. If Darkfall really is that empty and underdeveloped and has Full Loot as the only real thing to really offer.

Well sorry.... but looting naked players over and over and over and over and over gets old really fast.

Darkfall better offer more than that, or it will have even less then 5000 players left at the end of the month.

Here is a little personal experience:

When EVE launched I played it for a couple of months and left due to boredom.

It was only after about half a year when the player run economy was flowing that the games long term potential really started to shine for me and a lot of other people. Fighting is only so fun unless you have something to fight for, and resources are only interesting in fighting over if there is a market and liquid cash available so you can gain from them.

My estimate is, that it took about half a year before there was enough liquid cash available for the player driven market to run in EVE. I wonder how long the timeframe will be for DF.

So keep up grinding those cash faucets peeps, you need to do it, to not only make you but the entire game progress.

The only difference is that CCP has actual real geniuses on their employment list.

Comparing AV to CCP is really lame.Lets see if DF is still around in 2-3 years and still growing and then you can start comparing.

IMO there is not enough depth to the game to keep a player interested at max for more than 2-3 months(i would have said 1 but meh). And the problem is seeing that AV is a really small company can you really hope they will add content fast?

Some ppl say there are ton of stuff to do.Like killing people, killing people and killing people. There is also sieging, sieging and sieging. There is also boats, boats and boats.Anything else worth mentioning?

You are forgetting the Skill based characters. Yeah, a lot of people like me are interested in developing your character the way you want with the skills you want. Im always making alts in class based games because of that, no class offer me all that I want and everyclass is offering me something I dont like. I'm not playing darkfall right now and I'm not sure I'll play it, but I'm really interested in their skill system and I'm sure a lot of players in darkfall right now are in because of it.

Shadowbane had 30k subs to start. It started to decline rapidly after the first month, but was still decent in the first year.

Darkfall will do well to match that.

I'm just curious, but when you say "skill based," do you mean character skills or player skills? Because as far as I can tell, the melee is just run and click. It doesn't look terribly challenging. No acrobatics involved, right? Just run and click?
