the person you're replying to, and myself, are both eve players. we've been playing a REAL hardcore game for quite some time.
what have you been playing? where have you spent your non-pvp-hardcore time pre-darkfall? by the by, making statements like yours, they don't do the darkfall cult any good. if youre intentionally wanting to look bad, bravo, you've succeeded.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

Aye, I think his name was Gary Gygax. But again, without those such roleplayers from the late 70s to mid 90s MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) would never have existed. They created the foundations, the systems and the character structures used in games such as DFO. Without these people you might be waiting another 10 - 15 years for such a genre to appear if at all. To say its obvious that someone would eventually have done something is equivelent to hindsight. lol yea right someone would have played dungeon crawler or something and said hey! why can't i play this with other people

Yet without RPers MMORPGs would have never existed, which would mean UO never would have happened and hence DFO would never have been thought of... right lol and FPS would have never existed also
Massively Multiplayer Online ROLE PLAYING Games. sort of evolved out of the MUDs, which kinda were RPers. seriously, you can't dispute something that is as common knowledge as this. because you're completely new, doesn't make your wrongness any "righter". FPS has nothing to do with RPers/MMORPGs... that's the equivalent of saying "hey, i heard you have a car -- BAHAHAHAHA i ate a banana yesterday." it has the same relevancy - none. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

I personally find RPers to be a bit creepy, however, I have no problem with them enjoying the game in their own way. I'd never tell someone not too, anyway.. "RPing has no place in mmos these days" I think you are forgetting that it is mmoRPG. If role playing has no place in MMO's, why is it that virtually every single one of them have lore, back story, character progression, and the tools to RP in the design?

Just incase you could not comprehend the "/facepalm" The P&P Dungeons and Dragons RPG was the first "Comercialized" and highly popular DUNGEON CRAWLER. P&P = Pen and Paper If it were not for roleplayers you might as well be given a sword and thrown into Agon. Oh, did I forget to mention that you wouldn't be able to change clothes, or get new weapons? Oh and also, everyone would look exactly the same. As for us being the "joke of the human race" I'd like to see you muster up the attention span to create your own progressional story line (comparable to writing a book) with your friends. Can't do it eh? What are you going to say now, books are the scum of the universe?

I think a lot of us are waiting. I have been growing impatiente waiting for release, as a lot of you, these last months as release was aproaching (reading forums, leaks, looking for vids etc...). Came Feb 26 and suddenly all the impatiente *poof* was gone, almost funny. Now I am just keeping an eye on it more skeptic than ever. Right now Darkfall would fullfill my PvP needs but other than that, lacks in so many areas that I could hardly call it a Sandbox game. Great for people just interested on a swallow PvP game, bad for the rest of us looking for a deep PvP system or a game rich with other features. They had a great concept : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bYYT6Wg3Gg They delivered a shell of it. Let's hope their "updating the game once $ flow in" skills are better than their "release the game" skills. |

I prefer to say 'it's all gone tits up' or 'it's all gone runny' personally...but I think you're right about the pear-shaped thing. |

How old are you boy? Where do you think dungeon crawler and RPG games are coming from? Check this out, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons on the Intellivison console in 1982. It think this was one of the first video game RPG dungeon crawlers. I remember spending so many hours on this, this may look like crap today, but it was pure awesomeness for it's time. Awesome game. And here once inside a Dungeon, the AD&D Treasure Of Tarmin with 3D in 1982, This was totally huge and immersive: So, and where do you think these 1982 games came from? The D&D pen and paper games

Concur. The game has rapidly reverted back to how it was in beta and i'm having a great time. there's no question in my mind DF has enough of "it" to thrive, and if the level of responsiveness of the devs i've seen in beta and now in release, i have no doubt DF has a great future.
It's very obvious to me as a *player* that a lot of the negativity here is flat-out lies and trolling, as it does not correlate with the general vibe i can see & read in other actual DF players in game, nor with what i am experiencing while playing. and despite massive trolling here from people who've never ever played the game, there is massive demand for DF.
since virtually all of DF's PR has come from this trolling, i understand that DF essentially needs the clueless troll crowd to continue keeping DF in the limelight, doesn't stop it from being pretty amusing.
