I wanted to love Darkfall, really. It has everything in a game I've been looking for since the early days of UO.

Then what's the problem? Launch? Nope, it was tough, but I made it through. Gameplay? Nope, gameplay is just fine. Performance? No, the game runs fine for me.

Then what is the problem? Me. Pure and simple. I am uninspired by the game. All the pieces are there that would make this game a keeper in my book, but somehow it does nothing for me. I'm just going through the motions, trying to find reasons to keep playing.

I'm actually sad by this discovery. I had high hopes that DF would replace my beloved UO.

Anyone else feel the same way?

And maybe that's the problem, maybe you want Darkfall to be UO so much that you can't enjoy it for what it is.

I'm sure thats one reason.

The other at my sight: every game need a bit of time to feel in, sometimes even a break without the game to return later and feel the whole game.

I had same problems with other games, even UO at the beginning. After a short time away from the game i returned and discovered more and more and felt i found what i was looking for. Im sure when i once can play DF i will have the same feeling first.

If the game is really good, then you shouldn't need a break after only 2 days. I understand taking a break after 6 months, 1 year.. but if you need a break after 2 days this game is not for you

Yeah i meant so Macsen.

But i remember how it was as i changed games, at the beginn you're somhow al lthe time remembering how the other game before was - so youre looking for something (unwanted) that you wont find. This change of mind first must happen until you can enjoy something new.

If your life is not a daring adventure every day, you''re not truly living at all.

So it doesn't do it for you, and you're not sure why?

Odd. Maybe you're just not really a fan of this type of game anymore? People grow out of them sometimes.

  THIS

is the most important thing ever said about gaming....evar.

I'll take it one step further.

If a game is REALLY good, you shouldn't need a break after so little time...even IF the game isn't for you.

I feel a similar way about DF.. I wanted to really be able to get into it, and enjoy it.. I did for a few days, but I just felt some things ingame were too shallow, and the game wasn't exactly what I had hoped it would be.  I don't think this game is horrible, but at this point, the game really isn't for me.  Maybe that will change with time, or I could try it again, but this time immerse myself in the clan politics to try to make up for what I feel are some game-play shortcomings..  For now, I'll stick with EvE for my sandbox fix, and hope that Mortal Online, and/or Earthrise end up being something I can truly enjoy.

One of the reasons may be the difference in overall design of both games. UO was designed to be a living, breathing world. DF, on the other hand, is designed around PvP and not much else.

For someone, like myself, who has been a long time fan on UO, the difference is very noticable and is a game breaker.

I totally agree with you, its not for me. Immersion has a lot to do with wether or not I like a game, and its just not there with DF.

I had a similar experience with EVE. The game is near perfect, IMHO, but I'm not a sci-fi fan, so I couldn't get excited about the game.

Of course, horror is my favorite genre, but alas, only one game left in that category, and it's got sci-fi elements.

I need a good gothic horror MMO, maybe in the style of Underworld.

Actually I think what breaks the immersion for you is the sound in the game. If they overhaul that, I don't really see much that could break it.

So,  I should keep playing because "it's just a game". Yeah, then I'll go eat food I don't really like because "it's just food".

Yeah, immersion is a hard nut to crack. Having a vast, atmospheric world and loads of freedom isn't all there is to it. Sound, animations, a load of interesting alternatives to pvp and pve, options to customize your char, hobies, how much you 'love' your character, etc. are other aspects to it. It is a really tough job for developers to get them all right to end up with a truly immersive game.

Perhaps Darkfall evolves in something you like better later on, mate. If not there is Mortal Online to look forward to, I suppose.

p.s. Lotro was a very immersive game to me. Too bad of the lack of world pvp :-/ That was the sole reason why I quit that one, personally.

I'm still kind of jaded because of that. UO2 was going to be great. I wasn't a big fan of the monster art created by that comic guy (forgot his name) but overall the game looked fantastic.

Well, I play different games for different reasons. Currently LOTRO is my PvE game, WAR is my RvR (used to be DAoC, but the UI makes me crazy), and Requiem for PK (hoping DF would take this slot). I know of no game that does all three well. If you like different types of gameplay, you really do have to play more than one game. IMHO, people who latch on to one game and cling to it like a rabid dog are more than just fanboys, they have some serious mental/emotional issues they need to work through.
