/agree

I think they got backed into a corner with the first release date, not sure what happend with Audiovisual, and they very much needed an open beta.

A PR rep wouldn't have hurt either.

And someone to update the website.

And, well...

The actual game itself, once its running, seems to be quite good. At least, what I'm looking for.

1 out of 1 Darkfall server has been down for almost 48 hours straight since launch.  The only time it has been up, most players couldn't even move, and the ones that could move were busy exploiting mobs that couldn't move.   Darkfalls forums have been down since launch, and in the past 48 hours we have had 3 updates... all saying nothing.  Probably about 0% of Darkfalls initial players were unaffted by the problems at launch.

I played WOW at launch.  The only thing 'wrong' was that it took 5-10 seconds to loot a mob.  The gameplay was excellent, they mobs fought back, I could finish quests, I could move anywhere i wanted to.  For 80% of players, that is exactly what they experienced.

In Darkfall, and it's 1 server..  players can't log in,  if they do, most can't move.  The ones that can move can't fight mobs who fight back,  all they are doing is swinging at 'target' dummies and making gold.

Nice try, but you obvioulsy have no understanding of context.  Blizzard was trying to handle a huge amount of players and unexpected demand. Aventurine excplicitly limited the number of players so they woudln't have to " try to support more users than we can guarantee a good gameplay experience for".  At this time, Darkfall's one world cannot adequately support the fewer than 10k players trying to play.  As such, has Aventurine met their goal of being able to guarantee a good gameplay experience for those few players who've actually been able to log in and play?  No.

Context? Aventurine was trying to handle a huge amount of players and unexpected demand. Imo, that pressure was one of the biggest factors into a rushed launch.

And, I think, maybe, my "indie developer"(while somewhat inauspicious) might have have had something to do with context. Well, maybe, contrast even.

Peace.

What was the point of the "Limited Release" if it didn't prevent the problems?

Weren't they limiting pre-orders and sales so they could "Guarantee a good gameplay experience"?

I guess I'm just completely baffled at the thought process of Tasos and Aventurine.  If you are going to do a limited release... make darn well sure that it is limited enough so that the amount you limit it to can play!  (Kinda goes hand in hand with that guarantee part).

Just out of curiosity... does anyone know of a P2P MMO that Released with a more limited amount of players?  1 server... how many did they limit it to?  I haven't seen numbers over 25k... most are saying a lot less.  So, anyone know of a P2P MMO that Released will less?

It's not a knock on DarkFall or Aventurine... just wondering if that would be the smallest P2P MMO Release or not.

How many did these MMOs have for Release?

ArchLord

Roma Victor

Hellgate London

Those are a few recent kind more niche MMOs that I remember.  Anyone remember the Release numbers for those MMOs?

Another difference between Aventurine and Blizzard:

"Blizzard apologized at length on the official World of Warcraft forums before implementing a stopgap fix."

Meanwhile Tasos blames his customers, saying it is their fault because they cant spell their own names..

More BS from AV.

Dear Aventurine:

Your customers/fans would cut you a lot more slack if you stopped blaming them for your mistakes, kept them informed, and stopped lying to them.

Its funny how people who hate Darkfall spend so much time talking about Darkfall.

I guess being a fat troll means having no friends, no girls, and nothing better to do than spew hate on internet forums..

In general, Tasos has stated that the demand exceeded their expections.  That, however, is not the case for the launch, since the launch was limited to an extremely small number of players.  As such, Aventurine only has to handle a tiny player base and, up 'til now, they've yet to demonstrate that they can do so succesfully.  That's context.

Yup.

The only number that matters right now is the number that Aventurine allowed to pre-order, download, and make an account for.   You know that part where Tasos just 2 weeks ago said:

"We won’t try to support more users than we can guarantee a good gameplay experience for..."

Since they've disabled the forums and the any new orders... the only number of players they are dealing with right now is a number of their own choosing.

No, but it surely is the one that has done it best.

I guess if you wanna say they are #1 at something, that would surely be #1 at failing to launch a game

I agree. Not that I am defending Blizzard or anything.

BUT!

Blizzard was truly suprised by the amount of boxes they sold on day 1 and thus the amount of people suddenly all wanna log in at the same time!

Their servers were just litterly overrun. Pure and simple!

Big big difference!

As Aventurine limited their pre-orders to a small select number to exactly avoid these kind of problems wasn't that right?

They were also bragging that they didn't need any real beta nor open beta for stress testing as their AI bot programs we so much better.

Rest my case.

Maybe I was just lucky, but the game was very stable for me . . . yea the syncing sucked but I still managed to play. It was tough but I managed to kill quite a few mobs, and from what I could tell there were alot of people able to run around. I didn't run into any other problems besides the syncing thing.
