Ive seen alot of idiots coming up with the argument that alot of recent mmorpg releases has had rocky launches.
Thats bullshit.
Heres what ive played at release, and my view on how it went.
DAoC Pretty smooth release, I didnt have any problems. No problems with billing or making an account. AO, Pretty smooth release, client had massive fps problems in citys unless you had a monster rig (I had), again I didnt have any issues, server stability as far as I recall was quite good some resets but not much deowntime. No problems with billing or making an account. Shadowbane, pretty stable servers, client was a mess. Lots of crashes to desktop etc, but it was playable if you just rebootet the client every hour or so. Game was a mess, but it released in a playable state. No problems with billing or making an account. Lord of the rings online, FLAWLESS release. No problems with billing, no problems with the servers, and no problems with the client, this is how its supposed to be done. Age of Conan, also a pretty much flawless release, no major issues besides the fact that people were expecting to run it on shit rigs. I ran it on a 3.6ghz core2 duo with SLI 8800gtxs and 4 gb ram, It ran fine. Billing and server stability was once again, flawless. Warhammer Online, flawless release, no billing issues, no server stability issues, and client was rock solid, that the game itself was unfinished is another issue, but the release was fine.
Now, the big release that I didnt play, was World of Warcraft, and franckly that dosnt matter, point is there has beeen plenty of good MMORPG releases both resently, but also years ago. To expect anything less is stupid, so STOP THE FUCKING EXCUSES.
Now, what do we have here with Darkfall?
Billing is a mess: CHECK. Games is unavaileble for 90% who wants to play: CHECK Servers run like shit: CHECK (about 15 hours uptime since release.) Client runs like shit: Actually I think it runs ok, so that one they got right.
Conclusion: Game shoulda stayed in beta till servers/billing was ready. And the fanboys need to stfu.

Don't you worry my friend. Fanbois are very creative and always able to find some new arse to pull a fresh new excuse from. Good try tho with something called Reality and Common Sense. |

Warhammer had memeory leaks and was lag fest. Really actually enjoyed pvp in game but it would turn into a slid show. Also a ton of content was scrapped right before it came out. Come on only two races had cities. -Gosh you're cute. Wanna buy a monkey? |

Hah, rofl at the "AoC pretty much a flawless release." Perhaps in oposite land.
And you seriously need to learn what "Flawless" means. |

I do want to play DF and will eventually, but I agree 100% with the OP on this about releases. I had similar experiences. I must also say that I was in EQ in beta back in 99 when it was run by Verrant interactive. That was 10 years ago and had way less problems than this. I was at EB Games the minute they opened the doors, bought my copy, installed, patched and was online playing. The game had some big packet loss issues at first but was playable....."GRIFFON TO THE EC TUNNELS " Anyone who remembers that will remember the terror it brought to anyone in the area
God I miss those days |

I personally had no problems with AoC release. Billing/account creation was flawless. Client ran well on my rig which is not nearly as robust as the OP. Game wasn't finished but that wasn't a launch issue. |

I never understood why people say that AoC's release was bad. I was able to login and play during the headstart, no problems. During the headstart there were few hour downtimes every day which I suppose was pretty bad, BUT after the official launch it got much better. Servers were rock stable and the game was very playable. No problems whatsoever with paying for the game or account management pages. There were a lot of content/features missing and a number of bugs, but that's more like game state and not the launch process. |

AoC release had some lag. That was it.
And yeah, I was there at Anarchy Online launch. This is much, much worse folks. It doesn't get any worse than not even being able to buy the game.
But you know, when people STILL won't admit how fucked up this launch was and it's Feb. 27th now, another morning wasted by broken promises, they're beyond convincing. They probably even know it's true, but they just won't admit it. So don't bother. Played: Best thread ever: |

The game might be great, but so far ive wastet three days of my life trying to get it work, my patience is up and the only thing these kinda idiots understand if you hit them on their vallet. |

The people crying over AoCs launch was the people trying to run it on their pentium 4 2.8 ghz, with 512 mb ram and a old ati 1600pro. |

I had no problems at all during release. The stress test was the only time during AOC I ever had problems and that is normal in a stress test. They were a couple hours late on launch but that is no biggie. Regardless I still can't wait to play DF but can't argue with the OP on this topic |

Aren't we giving too much importance to the launch of a game? I don't mind a game taking a week to launch if it's worth playing afterwards. My concern about DF is the second. |

i agree they should have delayed release till they fixed the account management and ran an open beta while they fixed it. Had they ran an open beta all this synced issues would be fixed. We had this same problem in beta a few weeks ago and they seemed to have fixed it. Now its back and worse than before. I was fortunate enough to have a working account right now. Other then the syncing issues the servers are running stable. The client runs great. Perosnally 60 bucks isnt gonna break me so i dont really mind paying to play beta as they mgiht be able to hire more people and what not to get this shit in order. |
