Well, after spending the last week or so praising Darkfall and even saying it could be a huge success with over a million subscribers potentially, I must finally concede to all the haters, and those who "knew" the game would not be good.

I have been following the game (though not extremely closely) for a few years, remembering the days when people really didn't know if the game would be made, and around 5 months ago I started following it closely.

I believed in the indie team at Aventurine.  I believed that they wanted their own product to succeed and take down the EA's and Funcom's of the world in terms of the MMO genre to become the outright #2.

WOW WAS I WRONG.

Find my other posts on these forums:  They are almost all been of praise, but I have had it with this company and their game.  Here's a list of things that piss me off, coming from someone who has played the game for about 8 hours already:

1) Guard towers protecting noob zones are DUMB and they shoot lasers at you (no joke)

2) You are FORCED to be in 3rd person for melee.  They should allow both.

3) Just like the beta testers had said, there are basically no monsters to fight.  I totally understand the whole "you have to hunt for them" thing, but seriously, I don't just want to gank all day, I want some NPCs to skill up on.

4) The preorder fiasco.

5) The lack of communication from the Dev team. They give updates 4 hours after they say they will, leaving loyal fans pinned to their keyboards for info.

6) When you become evil from ganking and die, you are thrown 15 minutes away in a zone with no NPCs to talk/trade to and no bank that I know of; the only option I've seen is to kill other bad players and become good again.

7) A bug that has made the game unplayable since launch due to synching problems.  You can't hit anything, player or monster, unless they stand still for a minute or you are lucky. (This would be OK because it's launch day but seriously? Only 40% of the limited preorder brought the server to its knees in synching issues)

Don't get me wrong they did some great things like full loot, twitch based spell and archery, etc, but the places they fall short make this the worst $53 purchase I have ever made in my life.  I would have done better to buy 212 packs of chewing gum.

I give up on the MMO genre.  It fails time after time after time.  From Vanguard to Age of Conan to Darkfall to Tabula Rasa to Warhammer, games that were supposed to be better than anything else on the market WEREN'T.

I credit Vanguard and Age of Conan for turning around and they are pretty good games now, but the genre today is WoW or bust.  Most other games are buggy or dead.

Hopefully in a few years it will become good again, because I really believe it is my favorite genre, at least conceptually, but WOW (no pun intended) have companies fallen short these days.

Hands held? I just want to get a game that's playable at launch, and a dev team that says more than one thing a day when their game is crashing and burning

I'm sorry to hear of your dissappointment with the game and the loss of your money.  It seems ALOT of people are very unhappy with the launch.  I was hoping the game would actually be somewhat of a success so that other Indy game designers would follow.  Again, sorry for your loss.

Out of curiousity.  Just how did you come to that conclusion, from his post?  Sounded more like he was upset about now being able to play as much as he wanted (due to lag or something), and AV not talking about what's going on in a timely fashion.  Oh, and the guard towers.

I've been following Darkfall avidly for the past two years but frankly, some of the responses here from the blind fans really give me second thoughts about the type of people that like PvP games...
