Seriously, look at all the gameplay options this game gives you. The freedom to do what you want. Risk v reward for everything you do. Amazing economy, a fully shaped gaming universe totally ran by the players. The customization options within the game are mind boggling. The graphics are second to none, they even kick the shit out of sci-fi space games that aren't even out yet!!! When Corps (guilds) get thier ass kicked in this game, it isn't news on a game forum, the god damn BBC writes an article about it!!!! The Devs give us constant updates and tweaks. 5+ years of game play and the game is as supported as any mmo that released this year.
Seriously while certain people may not like the sci-fi setting or the type of combat or risk the game holds it should still be respected for what it gives the players that actually play the game. people that down right hate the game and say its the worst thing they ever played are insane. Being a good or bad game is subjective, but to hate a game? I don't understand it. Ultima ONline (3 Years) |

Ok, I'm bored and wanted to troll a little and this thread seemed like a good target Yippee, Slask the EVE-troll is back! You know Slask, if you spent half as much time playing a game - any game - as you do trolling this forum you might actually have a little fun someday. We do get it Slask, really we do - you didn't like the game. We're fine with that, why aren't you? |

Well, I don't care for EVE all that much, and I'll try to explain why and try not to sound like a troll.
Sandboxes are fun, but I have a short attention span unless I have something specific to do. Yes, that's kind of sad, but it's a reason.
Combat, while it's stakes are high, isn't all that interesting to participate in simply because (In my opinon) it's not all that fun to watch ships fly in circles and shoot missles at each other.
Time based leveling? Thanks for screwing over the new guy. Though I suppose if you make some allies early it won't really be all that much of a problem that you start out near defenseless in an almost completely PVP oriented game.
So yeah... I don't care for it much, but I can most definetely see why people would like it. |

My brother is the same way, he thinks it's a good game just not the setting he prefers. I seriously don't know one person that wouldn't want the freedom or gameplay options CCP gives its players but in a setting more to thier liking.

I can see why you wouldn't like Eve if you have a short attention span. Combat can be more involved than just circling each other but that is how a lot of people fly.

I think the two biggest reasons people come to actually "hate" Eve are the lack of percievable forward progress and the death mechanic. 1) 90% of all MMOs now and in history, you can simply log in and do an hours work of work and see a definitive progress. Your progress in the game is directly reflected by the time you spend in the game. Eve, with the skill requirement, often makes it hard for initial players to get that feeling of accomplishment. Likewise, more established players often come to hate Eve because they reach a point where most of their progress is defined only in small % increases from a Level 1 to Level 2 skill. 2) The all or nothing death mechanic causes a lot of people to outright hate Eve (I don't personally hate Eve but I don't play Eve because of it). Despite being a fan of PvP, the amount of time required to effectively prepare for or recover from, a failed PvP fight is not equivelent (or lesser than) the enjoyment I get out of the fight itself. |
