As I read it he is saying that you can build towers and walls - but most clans have chosen to build other structures first (in lieu of). It also says however, that contrary to the claims of certain people, siege warfare has NOT been properly tested. That is a very big concern because there are a lot of things that can go wrong with that sort of game mechanic. I tried playing Real Life but the graphics sucked, the community was annoying too. |

Really, that is odd, Even in the open beta to AoC, the clients were running in debug mode, hell, they made it a public fact too... Dont get out much? Debug provides alot more info feed back to the servers, that is all, Devs run it in all stages, and turn features on and off in all stages...

I'm afraid that all these excuses about graphics being set to 'low' for testing, is just wishfull thinking; I'd like to believe there is some super-patch bringin graphics and sound on-par with todays' games, but the stated client size does not leave much room for optimism.
The retail client is roughly the size of the beta client. |

Lower. I was in beta, fooling around with every video option. When you change from low to medium or high there's zero change or texture reloading. Same deal with enabling antialiasing or changing the slider from 2-16 on it, it didn't change. Same thing with the clipping. |

Yes, Graphics are low but the town is legit. It was build by a lot of peoples man hours. We would have groups doing PvE runs for gold, Lots mining and lots wood chropping. Elric would be almost always at the workbench. Myself I did stone and I put in 150-200 stone a day on average. Here's a little tour.
The only reason I am lagging in the Vid is because I had fraps running, normally It ran perfectly with mionor lag spikes once in a blue moon. This is also in debug mode still and I turned all settings down that I could turn down so yes this is low quality and even more was lost on Youtube.
In any case, hope you like the tour. |

That's one of the many problems I have with the game. At least make it hard to macro to deter all the script kiidies. Whats the point of having mad scripting skilz if any dimwit can come up eith a clicker.
None of the game systems are anything but trivial to macro (including combat actually). 24/7 macroed clicking does not a fun game make. |

It actually makes it entirely pointless to "play" hit a button and watch is like putting the movie in the vcr.. |

It really makes no difference how good the game looks with everything set on high. Everyone will play on low graphics settungs for the tiny edge it will give in combat. Complaining about the graphics is just silly.

There's nothing more immersive then dying tbefore the person who killed you has even loaded on your screen. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

Who said anything about server latency being related to graphics lag? Although both of them can affect the order and speed of things loading on your screen. Good in a PvP MMO is not getting jacked up every time you log in. Are you perhaps talking out your nether regions to someone who's actually played a FFA MMO? Last I checked, Darkfall was listed as sandbox; meaning varying playstyles. But each one sees what he most wants to see, I guess...
But, in relation to the original issue at hand, if I want to play an explorer type, I just might want to turn up those graphics to enjoy my exploration. If I play a crafter type, there's no reaosn why I must endure Hexen2 graphics while gathering mats and crafting. Etc, etc.
So the statement that no one is gonna use high-gfx settings because they'll be trigger happy to gank and loot and thus be "good" in the game, isn't very valid. |
