Well, without warning, it seems the "client" was updated in stealth fashion on Testlive minus a certain DX10 client. I am unsure of what this means, but I certainly am questioning this decision. I would not mind with notification, but it seems this is not the case. Nothing to report at this time I am afraid. I guess I now have a thread created for everyone who wishes to speculate, as some posters here also noticed no comments were made in the new presentations for the financials today about DX10 coming. Craig did an interview with Ten Ton after the 1.04 patch stating it is coming, but dang if this is not weird. I would not have known about the update if I didn't want to go and test the new ATI 9.2 drivers I just installed... Anyways...just a bit of strange today. As I find out more I will post it. Cheers |

I believe they are doing the right thing here. Graphics was never issue for me or anyone else other than DX10 being a bitching point. I swear I have the original box and nowhere is DX10 mentioned BTW. From what I saw of he DX10 client the game is not losing much anyway. The water effects were great and so was the fog but it was not worth the performance hit. I have a feeling that those coders will be put to better use elsewhere. |

Maybe its just a bug? Or they want to release a new build and messed things up so dx10 ended up being removed. Sometimes a cake- is just a cake. |

QA already replied to a thread on testlive forums stating that it wasnt included in the 1.04.1 patch but would be in the next patch on testlive. |

Enhanced for Directx10 doesn't necessary mean Dx10 is availble. It's a dodgy way of writing it as they can get away with not implementing dx10 if they can prove that the code itself could support dx10. So far Dx10 looks nice, but graphicwise it woun't be a thing that saves aoc subscriber wise. if peopel come back only based on dx10, well then they are in for a surprise. :P |

perhaps dx10 is not ready to go yet. that might have something to with it not being in there. |

not sure if it is noted on the collector's edition, never really looked for it when I think about it. But it should be on the normal box. :) |

I see no purpose adding in a few Dx10 perks after the game has been designed on DX9.The advanced physics will not be noticed,.For the average user ,well anyone for that matter ,you won't notice the difference. I can't wait for the first true DX10/11 game,it will probably be SOE,who else is a leader in the industry? The purpose of DX10 was to give the developers more options and a little better physics, more headroom means more objects in the world, therefore a better looking more realistic game.It was to speed up processing as well and allow GPU's to do a lot of the work that the PC has been doing so far.We are still waiting for a developers to code in the agia physics chip,SLI graphics, multi cores,shader4+,how about hi resolution textures everywhere in the game? Most of what you see is just the quality of the textures,dx10 would allow the better physics. AOC looks fine the way it is,no sense adding problems to the game, they should work on the rest of the game a bit, there are areas that need touching up or made better. http://www.youtube.com/user/Napolianboo#p/u/15/rCYLLQCNc1w |

There is a noticeable difference between DX9 and DX10 versions of LotRO IMO. True, AoC looks great in DX9, but that's not the point. This game was hyped as a DX10 showcase and says "enhanced for DX10" on the box. 9 months later after hearing how DX10 was "coming soon", still no DX10. Some people take getting what was promised seriously, even if it was something minor. If I buy a 12 pack of something and there are only 11, I can promise you I will bring it to the attention of somebody. |

Don't feel like that at all. I didn't mean it as a troll type post or have anything negative. I think you are one of the few forum posters here whos posts I rather enjoy. |

Look on the back, down below the pictures. You'll see the words 'enhanced for dx10' down with the system specs. This means if you can use DX10, the graphics are better for you.
When the game launched, having Dx10 or DX9 made 0 difference for what the game looked like on similar or maxxed settings. |

Actually I can say from personal experience that DX10 on the test server before removed for change in it's test form was better than Lotro / Crysis for effects (minus physx in Crysis). Just before it was taken down (to be added in the next update, probably either later on this week or next) there were some awesome effects that just made you go "WOW". Several testers including myself noticed a decrease of CPU usage which was posted and commented on too. I was in the process of putting together another video showing what extra's had been added in over the past month. One awesome thing to note was that some spell effects and knockbacks provided an explosion type effect that would be similar to say a planet exploding where it sucked in and then burst out radially where you can actually see the shock wave moving trees and grass etc. The simple reason why it was temporarliy taken off was most likely that each zone + instance type (all 98 of them) were being optimized gradually for dx10. With the next update to include Tarantia Commons playfield, it makes sense that this area will need extra work with the dx10 and they come back on test together. That is my educated guess from spending most of my time on the servers there. Yes AoC looks fine the way it is, but the DX10 does really enchance gameplay and immersion to a new level in an mmorpg (for me anyway). DX10 client downtime is something that several people that don't play don't get, but for it's downtime absence actually makes perfect sense for its locale and immediate future. When it comes back up, I'll finish the video at the highest possible setting. On the previous video I made I was running from 2 x 8800gt's and saw improvement in SLi although not officially supported, I just had a change around here at home and have 2xGTX 285 OC on route, I am considering using one of the older 8800 cards as a thrid physx card and if your interested in that I have been getting quite a bit of decent info from the nVidia forums in execution. I'll post my findings too for interest sake. I like the fact the game pushes the expense I laid out in my PC coupled with all upgrades it has. Although for one game doesn't justify for me myself as it has other uses worthy. The fact the game scales well in graphics and at the very top for an mmo it is just another bonus where real beauty in the game shines for those that want it. Having the game enchanced for DX10 on it's custom built CUDA engine puts it ahead of any other game. Deliverance of that client in waiting is ok for me, I've enjoyed whats been sampled so far and know that if an iteration of that DX10 came in for launch then it would of been subpar. Getting it done right is the key.

I honestly dont know how you guys can still be playing this pos. Funcom fails to deliver half of the time and usually they tend to break more than they fix while banning players who complain, seen it happen. They essentially lied to everyone who bought the game, told them it would come in a month, then another, and then another, never actually doing what they say. The minigames were actually some of the best parts of the game and those didnt even work half the time. I was there for launch, followed the statements they made, believed in them, ran a 200 person end game guild before we all had to admit that we were playing a pos. Its a good looking pos with a few perks, but its still crap and it still came from the arsehole that is funcom.
