News is in norwegian, but im sure the rest of you get the picture. Horrible numbers, this time true numbers that states excactly what the sane people on these boards has predicted. Reality-check for Funcom. A great victory for the consumers.

It's funny I just called him the Ken Lay of Norway in the financial thread and now this ;p
If Funcom's hiring I'm sure I could do a better job even with the language barrier, heck I even have access to a house there ;p 50k USD per quarter + Bonuses!

Sandnes will continue in the job for a new CFO is in place. Etter en overgangsperiode vil han så begynne i en «ny stilling i en annen bransje» ifølge spillselskapet. After a transition period, he will then begin a "new position in another industry" according to spillselskapet. Isn't it fascinating that everyone who gets canned from Funcom over AoC ( Gaute and now the CFO ), leave to go to other industries? Hell, we can get rid of every bad element in the gaming world. Just send them to Funcom and then wait for them to get fired. I vote for Brad McQuaid and Richard Garriott to be put iin charge of The secret World. |

how exactly do you call this victory... oh wait, lets get aoc shut down , so all of you can jump in joy tomorrow. while im not playing game atm, i do not see hows having horrible success for game benefits us gamers in any way, less money most of the time = less updates due to less ppl or complete game shutdown = we paid , and we got nothing out of it now
reality check mr op ? |

Well, it teaches other companies that even though a game is ace in the graphics department, you can't get away with: - launching an unfinished product* - developing an mmorpg where eyecandy prevales over gameplay and immersion, for example the choice to instance the gameworld to little bits *= no mmorpg is perfect as launch but huge client instability, lack of content for higher levels + the usual host of bugs was stretching the limit in this case |

Its a nice way of saying they have lost all respect and integrity in the business. So yes, Funcom happens to have an above average number of child molesters, symbollically speaking. Is anyone surprised? Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. |

You have no problem with shitty games being continually released. Who the hell cares if Funcom lost millions? And why would I give you 500 million to make a game even if I did have the money? People with your train of thought are the very ones enabling these asses to keep on shoveling out crap. And preventing another crappy company shoving out another crappy game is the purpose of having the bad company go bankrupt, so another DOESN'T pop up in its place. Get rid of the crap, eventually the bad ones go somewhere else and the good ones start getting their chances. |

its not developers who release games.. its guys with big bucks, and they dont care if someone said game wasnt finished, they dont play, they are not gamers.. and they probably got no clue what endgame is yes aoc launch was crap, but oh wait.. lie ? in what way did they lie
it was known month or two before game release that dx10 isnt in game, it was known that mid lvl will lack content cuz they increased exp cap for lvling since they felt it too fast in beta, but didnt added new content .
there was no real lies, small ones maybe.. i cant recall ones? outdated info.. yes
next bill gates, looking for money in gaming, wont look at funcoms failure as warning to him, that he shouldnt push out unfinished game, every single game gets released before its time. aoc war just few i can mention in last year .
there was public post by tobula rasa dev team i think, blaming publishers/investors, for making them release game, in unfinished state.. yes game is officialy dead now ..
and that was released few years ago, did funcom learned that mistake.. did mythic learned? both of them released unfinished products.. both of them are considered failures
do you think next gaming wanabe corporation will look at this.. well they wont
when i was buying aoc, i knew where iwas getting in, i wasnt considering aoc as full time mmo as to wow, or some other feel free to point out those "lies "its probably just your grudge about how xx didnt work xx crashed
oh dont bring that dx10 on game box. its WRITEN ENHANCED FOR DIRECTX 10 , its never said, thats its dx10 client.. its not said its dx10 compactible even , for all we know, its dx9 with dx10 features ( yes there is plenty of games like that ) |

So you think there is more than one gaming company in Norway? They're leaving the industry because their choices are leaving the country or leaving the industry. All this means is he's found a better paying job and honestly what industry doesn't pay better than the gaming industry? Having both a founding partner and the Chief Financial Officer of a company forcibly "resign" says there's more than "finding better paying jobs" involved. Both of them were basically run out of the industry, they didn't choose to switch. It's hilarious, really. |

guys i agree with some of your points, but there was no real scamming you call this. lots of adversiting yes, and what this have to do with scam in any way, check wow adversiting.. its on tvs in america for gods sake
scam was dark and light, scam will be darkfall, just wait 2 months..
aoc is still one of best games created
how many actuall mmos, we have, you talk like we get to choose for 50 games each year, we are lucky if we get 2 released, that are somewhat decent, do you call games like rune of magic or atlantica actuall games? those are cheap f2p , no quality games
while as gamer i agree, we should receive well done / finished/polished game, we dont actually have much to choose atm now, and dissing every game, cuz you didnt like something, wont make things go better let me remind you. Development on Dark and Light started by NP Cube in 2002. Later, under the "pressure from its investors and from the gaming community"[1], it was released underdeveloped to retail and on the internet in 2006 after a prolonged beta testing. On August 14, 2006, the publisher, Farlan Entertainment, stated that the game was released prematurely and has experienced problems due to its early release. "Farlan Entertainment now acknowledges that the game was released prematurely due to pressure from its investors and from the gaming community." "[We are] embarking on a new initiative to correct and improve various operational aspects of Dark and Light. While worldwide play in the Internet game will not be interrupted during this period, Farlan is nonetheless offering a thank you to the hundreds of thousands of Dark and Light subscribers who have signed on thus far by offering three months of play with no monthly subscription fee
and one more Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa is a MMORPG from NCsoft, designed in part by some of the creators of Ultima Online including Richard Garriott. The game is an RPG that blends certain shooter aspects into the combat system. It was officially released to retail on November 2, 2007, with customers that pre-ordered the game allowed access to the live servers from October 30, 2007. The development team has since released updates, called "Deployments," nearly every month since launch.[1] The game requires a monthly subscription.
Tabula Rasa is slated to close as of February 28, 2009, with servers becoming free to play on January 10, 2009.[2] However, the developers decided to set the servers to free-play a month early, and as of December 23, free play has begun.[1]
im sure there is more, both of these games were released 1-2 years before aoc/warhammer.. do you think adding aoc/warhammer to that list, will change something in next 2 years.. |

Actually it is. Funcom is our biggest though. We got Ablemagic, Artplant, Skalden, Inludo Studios, Minimedia, Brilliantly Blond and Capricornus. Those are the ones I know of at the moment anyway. Now, these developers aint got any big, international hits, but their games still manage to sell quite ok in Norway. Like that Flåklypa game. Who didn't got that for the thoddler or nephew when it got released. I know I did, allthough it was me and my uncle that played it that particular christmas Eve |
