OK, I thought to post this here, for both DCU and Champions fans. Quite a Nerd-topic, isn't it? ;) Please if you DONT like Superheroes per se, thats quite fine, but please dont litter this thread. This is for ppl liking Superhero genre. Thanks.
Personally, my fav is Wolverine. I mean, ok he is badass and who doesnt like that, but still, if you follow the comics and stuff, he also has depth, in a way I like. He is in pain, fighting with his dark past, he is a loner, preferring to do things his own way, and he is not one of this "boy scout" heroes like Captain America or Superman. Whats not to like? (Though I must say I dont like the Hugh Jackman - Wolverine so much; Wolverine is way more squarehead type of guy, and Jackman is kinda too slim and good looking.) On second thought I also like Bats. Basically because he is a "detective" and fights crime even not having superpowers. He is also that kind of lonesome fighter I like. Personally, I did not like most real actor movies with Batman. "Batman the brave and the bold" displayed him quite nice IMO. Finally, some honor mentions goes to Green Arrow. He is a kind of witty guy, some nice and social person - if you know about his background from the days were he was paired with Green Lantern. The duo was a bit like "Chaotic Good + Lawful Good", speaking in D&D alignment, and since I am Chaotic Good too, I liked Green Arrow.

Mr. Monster, "Worlds Greatest Monster Hunter" www.internationalhero.co.uk/m/mrmonstr.htm

I'd have to say Batman has always been my favorite. Simply because with enough money, drive, and determination, being a Batman would be possible. No superpowers, no invulnerability. Get it right, or your dead. He's the most "real" of the "superheroes". Right down to the fact that he teeters on the fine line between courage and insanity, which is realistic considering the frame of mind you would have to have to be someone like him. He is not the "I can save the world" kind of hero. He does fail, people do die., But he keeps going, the failures just make him stronger instead of breaking him. Something I think we all can envy at times. He is also a reminder of how the system can fail. And that sometimes, to do what is right, you have to do what is "wrong". |

I have to go bit old school here and say that for me its definetly : SPIDER MAN
It think that more than everything he wins on the COOL factor. And i am relating to COMICS (not films) I mean infuriating bad guys with witty remarks while jumping around them being unable to hit him - priceless. Himself being just slightly stronger than normal - but representing speed , agility , mobility coupled with precognitive danger warning ... and lets not forget the web ! Add probably the most awesome palette of bad guys Thats why even Ramones used to sing about him ;)

Kitty Pyrde / shadowcat. Just all alround interesting power and one of the few characters you see from kid to adult. Stupidly enough they killed her off when she had more real developement than five sixths of their characters.
Favorite pair. Rogue and Whoever. I don't care about the romance just the fact that you can truthfully say "My wife is a soul sucking bastard that I can't touch" |

Oh man, what a topic. First what comes to mind is batman. I have always rooted for batman since I could watch TV. Why? Because he is a normal human doing outrageous and heroic things. Screw superman. Humans all the way. For ACTUAL superheroes, I need to agree with the OP; Wolverine is the shit. OP pretty much explained it all: Wolverine is a lone shark, he has a dark past, he constantly has struggles with his conscience, and, he is just a badass in general. Now, in terms of who I went the craziest over when I was a youngin, well that reward falls in a couple characters. 1st: Goku, first fighting Raditz, then later fighting Freeza and turning :OMG OMG OMG: super saiyan. 2nd: Heero Yuy who is 15, controls a gundam, assassinates people, and gets love from all the crazy females....all at the same time. 3rd: Duo Maxwell. (I was addicted to gundam wing for awhile). He acts like a polar opposite to Heero. Reckless, charismatic, and fun loving. Yet he too is a badass. I mean, come on, his nickname is Deathscythe. 4th: Trowa Barton (I was REALLY addicted to gundam wing for awhile). He is the most experienced, and the most passive character I have ever seen. yet, when it is time to act, Trowa does so in such a decisive and correct manner. He ended up being my favorite character in gundam wing, but never received the fame and glory he deserved. 5th: Gohan, during the cell saga. My brother and I were the biggest dragonball z fans out of all our friends. We actually got people hooked to it (and thus anime in general). We would watch the foreign channel every sunday around 8, when they aired the japanese, uneditied version of DBZ. This is where we saw the cell saga. We watched how Goku sacrificed himself to save everybody. We watched how Cell reappeared. And we watched how Gohan went into a rage and reached super saiyan 2. It blew my prepubescent mind into oblivion.

For DC: Batman of course, I mean he gets by on skill, cunning, and determination, no super powers, how awesome. Plus his costume is great. For Marvel: Deadpool, he is just crazy and uses all kinds of weapons, plus his costume is the best, like a psychotic Spiderman. Then there is Spawn, cruel and viscuous, great costume, chains that rip people to shreds, guns, what is not to love. And of course Space Ghost, I mean not only does ne have a spank ray he has his own talk show. |

Have to say Wolverine.... Growing up in the 70s/80s, I was into the X-Men before they went "main stream". Not only was Wolvie cool, he sported the tag of Wolverine like the University of Michigan, and initially wore the same colors as well. That being Maize(yellow)/Blue. Lifelong Michigan fan, and attended school at the Flint campus for a number of years. Working in a comic store in the early 80s(during high school), I eventually grew out of "super heroes" and took up reading Alan Moore's rendition of Swamp Thing. I still have a soft spot in my heart for the super hero stuff, even though I got out of collecting em 20 plus years ago. And like so many other stories of "I wish I hadnt sold my stuff"...I really wish I still had mine heh. Instead I sold them for party money at the age of 18...ACK!!!!!!!!!!! Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget. |

Originally he is supposed to have strength of 10 people. This but varies trough different periods of comic, and its drastically overblown in film ( he is stopping the entire subway train ?!) As for super cool Batman - no one can argue Gotham villains are great. But Batman is no superhero so Gotham villains are (mostly) no super villains them selves ;)
And as for best villain : I would say Black Cat Having a power to cause everyone to just kill them selves from bad luck is pretty awesome

Deadpool is cool! But mostly because of his hilarious lines! XD Got that from the last "X-Men II" game: DP: Yeah, I'm fine - I just have an uncontrollable urge to rip you into tiny shreds and then dance and spit all over your graves. Deadpool: I'm really good at killing. You might say it's my specialty. That and ballroom dancing. But guess which one I can actually make a living at.
An insane guy, but so funny. ^^ He is one of the few comic chars who frequently knows he is in a comic.

I'm kind of a dark/vigilant person in reality so naturally I've been drawn to darker/vigilante characters. Batman is of course KING, so long as The Crow doesn't count... |

Well, we're both right here. In the original comic he is said to have the strength of ten men. However, he is also stated to have the proportionate strength and agility of a spider. This is where the 150 times his own weight comes in ( spiders are strong little suckers, believe it or not I agree with you about the movie. Not so much his own strength ( they got that part pretty good, as you could see him straining and forcing himself to the limit ), but the strength of his webbing. His webbing gave out on more than one occasion in the comics due to too much weight. Not to mention the fact that Spidey never had organic webbing. He was a science major and designed his own web fluid to be shot from "web shooters". He then over time learned to use his fingers to direct the webbing into various patterns. The only time Spidey had anything close to organic webbing was during the "Secret Wars" and "Web of Spiderman" storylines/series, when he was possesed by the alien symbiote costume ( which later melded with Eddy Brock to become Venom ). The alien symbiote was able to create it's own version of web fluid, stronger than Spideys' own stuff, which was shot from the back of Spideys hand ( from the dark spot in the middle of the white patch on the hands of the "costume"). As for Black Cat, it's a toss between her and Catwoman for me. I'd love to be trapped by either of 'em, to tell the truth. And I feel like a real damn nerd to admit I know all this stuff. |
