Well I know I'm gonna get spammed by DFO Fanbois shouting "TROLL TROLL!!!". But as a lot of and most people seem far from satisfied with the way Darkfall has turned out from what they've seen in beta. I myself have yet to try the game but from what I've read most reviews give me a pessimistic sort of view on how the end product will look considering its release is in 5 days. Anyways, back to the topic at hand, what do you think will be the next big thing people decide to well latch onto? I myself think it will be MO it looks really cool, of course Im not going to invest too much curiosity into it with how Darkfall turned out and everything. But it seems as though it could be more of a sandbox than DFO. Yeah its in first-person but is that really that big of an issue? Not to me it isn't. I would have to say the most intriguing thing to me has to be the whole Cult/God/Whatever thing it sounds really cool and the fact that it uses the UT3 graphics engine ensures that it will have good graphics. I'm also waiting to hear more and see more on WoDO that just sounds amazing especially since Vampire the Masquerade:Bloodlines is one of and maybe my favorite RPG I've ever played. It will also be interesting to see an MMO thats got that kind of theme but that isnt F2P.
Your thoughts?

Earthrise looks cool Mortal Online isn't going to save anyone, Darkfall Online won't save anyone...
They are both niche games. Not everyone likes Full Loot and that hardcore PvP, Darkfall is not appealing to more than half the MMO community. WoW was an MMO Messiah, and the next one that will bring it down is probably going to be Blizzard's next MMO. Current: DDO |

obviously mortal, since its ffa pvp. full loot.. sandbox type game.. cuz only those type of mmorpgs are real mmogrps.. god forbid, that you wouldnt get 1 mln players, from those 20 games in that type. all together..
only real hopes i have so far , is kotor online, warhammer 40k , new blizz mmo , well thats about it.. but none of those are comming in next 2 years.. |

Have you read any of the features that have been announced for MO? They actually have a criminal system so yes you can kill people BUT you will be punished for it and the best part NO TASOS!

Don't know if im looking forward too the next blizz mmo since they havent even announced what it is yet. lmao!

Two there should be; no more, no less. One to embody the power, the other to crave it. |

Unfortunately the next big "Savoior of MMO's" is going to be whatever Blizzard creates as their second MMORPG. |

For me, its anything sci fi, especially Star Wars. I am a huge star wars nut, and loved the old SWG. If SW:TOR delivers, has space combat, rpg value, solid gameplay, and pvp (some sort of RVR would be a huge bonus) then it would be my ideal game. But, if not, i will always have EVE

it's good for mmos to have popularity but I have little interest in mmos promising to be the "the next big thing" |

Warhammer 40K online. But sadly... I bet they screw it up. |

The next big mmo will be the new star wars mmo.. it will have it's share of success ( and I don't mean like shitty "success" like WAR or w/e ) probably a few mills of subscribers. But if you mean THE next one.. and I mean one that people will be like "have you heard about <xxxx>?" like they did with wow.... sadly it can only be Blizzard's new mmo since they are the only company which puts that much effort and money in their game and they know how to get the job done.
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around. |

I think there are a few good looking games in the near future, but none of them are going to be saviors or the next big thing.
Aion and star wars might be big and do respectively well.
Whatever game 38 studios ends up putting out is about the biggest project I have any hopes for being something truely fun. Maybe a blend of good old school mechanics with some current and new features mixed in for good measures.
Raph kosters metaplace sounds interesting if they can work in a 3d client and enough people get involved to make fun game rooms. Fallen earth looks like a solid little project that has potential. I don't know enough about guild wars 2, but maybe that turns out nice. Guild wars wasn't exactly my style of game, but it was a good game.
Beyond that I think most people are waiting on big announcements. Hopefully there isn't one super mega game that comes out to rule them all. Instead a stream of small fun games invade the market. |

I guess that would depend on what you thought the last "savior" of MMOs was...
Personally, I liked the freedom of UO. I think the linear line MMOs have taken since has brought the genre' backwards.. My opinion of course, and my prefered playstyle.. I'm tired of going to town A, do all the quests, with the last one leading you by the nose to town B, to eventually getting you to that instanced off dungeon, so you can grind a few more levels of your specified class.Theres obviously variances in every MMO, but it just seems to have gotten awfully repetative. I'd love for someone to break the mold, but i don't see anyone with the type of funding in todays market, taking that kind of chance. |

I am sceptical these days, but if anything, it can be SWTOR. Nothing else has the chance to deliver real grandeur.

I think after DF you should look at screenshots and videos of gameplay rather than read web developers blogs, or look at lists of "features". MO has had hte same stale video around for a while, and that's about it. I'll believe a criminal system when I see one in a game, not when they write about it on a website. I agree with Elikal. TOR looks like it has a shot to be pretty good. |

I would rather see a Mass Effect MMO, but you can't win them all. And this will be more marketable for them. It will be great to see a MMO where you actually have choices to make. And not just more kill x rabbit quests. |
