"What the fuck is a robster craw?" |
These last few years have been tough. Moreso for those of us who were never invited to the Darkfall beta. Now's your chance to let everyone know who you are so we can be like "Hey! That guy was actually in beta? I guess he's not a total douche." or "Hey! That guy was actually in beta? I guess he's a total douche."
For the record: I wasn't invited.

Im in beta. The game is not ready to be released. Impossible to solo anything other than goblins/kobolds/skeletons/akfar(bird like things really hard to kill solo) u can pvp solo easy, whoever has the most stam/heath pots usually wins in a pvp situation. Mobs dont seem to have a stam or mana pool so they can run away and in circles forever, which they do constantly. If your not in a clan/guild get in one or else you wont have fun and wont experiance any higher difficulty mobs, also makes pvp safer and more fun. The weapons are unbalanced, best weapon and most used weapons are 2handers and polearms. Blocking/parrying is almost completely worthless because of time it takes to block and the fact that you cant block then attack right after said block, theres like a time delay/ "round"(like in dnd where you would roll) Weapon skills do just as mutch damage and cost the same ammount of stam as regular attacks when you first get them, making them pointless untill you get to one of the "tier" levels. Archery is great. Crafting is not profittable since the weapons/armor is nly about .01-.05 better than what drops. Very boring and time consuming to gather/craft. The best crafting profession would probally be alchemy because of potions. Did try enchanting or jewelcrafting so i dont know about them. Enchanting cost 1000G to train(getting gold isnt that difficult) There is no steath aspect of PVE, they see you from a mile away even if your jsut in the periphal vision, they hear you from a mile away too. If you hide they still will automatically know where you are even if they dont see you or hear you get to your hiding space
Thats my little beta review. Didnt bother worring about grammer or spelling cause its late, and therefore somethings might not make 100% sense |

Its just a bit odd to note that previewers with reservations seems to provide more solid elaborations of their views. Those who champion this game seems to use only one strategy, namely mocking everyone else. Is it my misconception? I got the feeling that more mature players tends to hold reservations about the game, they are not haters, they just feel cautious. |

I never had any lag, things were very smooth, ping average was from between around 130 - 170 and FPS 60-70. Was the fastest ever 8.5gb client download I have ever had. I am waiting for a couple vids I put up on youtube to appear, just shows a bit about the GUI thats all. There was a wait when loading up some of the GUI such as the Journal.

Thanks, Ave. Let's hope the servers will hold with all players on but at least that is good news. Personally I probably wait for a few months anyways, I rather stay clear of most of the buggs and keep an eye out on the forum. |

I'm with you there. I had as good FPS as I do in AoC. Only thing is, that I've only really had a max of around 30 ppl fighting it out so far. FPS did take a dip, but not too much. The game def needs some more polish and can be brutal at times (if your crap at PvP DF style ahah)

Originally posted by razerblade29 I didn't get to try crafting while i played the game but i was rather interested in it but from what i read i'm not so sure anymore. About the combat system you'll find me 100% agreeing with you, archery is fun but not "great" IMO The limited solo playing options kinda turned me down since i hoped that until i actually got the hang of the game i would be able to solo easily which is not the case. IMHO it will all go down to numbers the bigger the party/guild the more chances to dominate the game The pve aspect needs working and whilst the stealth part is non existent the mob AI is more than just coming on to you and attacking but even so it does have a pattern to it's behavior (going from action A=>B=>C and repeat) if one gets the hang of it and has enough pots and food/reagents in his bag they can toggle 2 mobs or even 3 if they're really good but it is a case of "the more players vs the mob(s) the better" since the amount of work you need to put in to recraft all the pot's reagents and arrows one uses to kill these mobs solo is 40% of the time not worth the rewards you reap from them. TBH i was expecting it to be more like Oblivion hard mode where whenever i faced 2 or more mobs i always had to run to a guard for assistance. I can see you don't mention much about the magic system which i think was (at least when i tried the game) insufficient and not as good as archery but a lot cheaper(no arrows needed),at least the few starter spells i tried were like this they didn't have all the spells implemented back then.... Mind you i played the game for roughly 2 hours or so and that's the impression i got form it anyway........ Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray* |

First beta builds are not optimised for performance, and usually carries debugging modules. Second, beta server is not live server. Third and foremost, beta player size is usually small relative to live servers, I hope, or the live server will go bankrupt fast. That said, your concern is exactly mine. How far will lag rule the gameplay? Real time targetting, dancing around, what if my opponent lag, or I lag? Will my target warp around? What if the server lags? Who gets to hit who? There is a catch here. That is exactly why I keep worrying about lags. In this game there is friendly fire. I cast a fireball my enemy warp away, my teammate warps in. Boom the teammate dies. Oh great. |

Im in beta, the game is fantastic. I made one character, a human. Started in Monk field killing goblins and gathering basic loot. I quickly got bored of being a noob so I joined a clan and learned much more about the game. It also allowed me to experience much more of the games content (I am in a clan, but i do alot of soloing both PvE and PvP). One thing I hear often is people saying "whoever has the most pots wins" at this point, that is just untrue. Pots now have a 45 sec cooldown. So they do help and I never go into major pvp without a few but i've beaten down folks numerous times without it turning into a pot spam fest.
I do not really want to ramble on but if anyone has any questions email me I can tell u anything u probably want to know.
P.S I laugh at the level of hate towards this game on these forums. I think its hilarious to see people trying to spin DF as vaporware on a "technicalitie". |

For sure, but I can do ok with 100 in Crysis Wars when connecting to games in the EU. I'm like West N.America. A lot of the time it is usually around 130-140. I'll like to point out that I work for my ISP too and currently testing 100mb download speeds on a new Docsis 3.0 modem. Most people in N.America connecting to the server in EU will be routed the same way along ain shared fiber lines at some point. The thing I found is that DF wasn't as twitch as what I was expecting. There is a lot of stop / start / stop / start. Pressing "t" made me swing over head is the only change I found in melee. The left and the right swings are automatic dependant on the direction you run and swing. Not full control over it. And definately not the postional stuff I was expecting. Never died because of my ping though..... Yet!

DF from whats been said smaller world PvP system that won't work unless pop can control it. Soloing seems tougher with fact now you have to point too target/attack while running after mob and hit spamming the pots stamina hotkeys sounds like you need three or four hand just to play 1 character let alone players that have used 2 box setups in other games hmmm!! 8 hands lol.Oh and here is the kicker game not ready for release sounds deathly alike to Shadowbane and anything else that has been coming out lately. What about lag if there is any kind of it all you end dead faster here it seems then in other games. Granted its in beta but anything (like whats been said)that gets patched for release has been untested, just think how many bugs will be around for first few months....do i smell paying to beta test for the first few months.
