unfortunately Aventurine's devs are doing the EXACT opposite that CCP's devs do. CCP's devs at least keep their general populace updated, leaving nothing to be specualted about. They are very forthcoming and open. AV's devs are pretty much the antithesis of them.....giving no updates for over 3 weeks now, and no information 7 days before launch.

CCP has been running a live game for 7 years. AV has been in development for 7 years. I have a very high level of respect for what CCP has accomplished as an "indie" developer (if you look at other indies in the same time frame their accomplishments are even more substantial). Think Ryzom, Neocron (both games deserve acclades for attempt), and Second Life (successful, but barely a game any longer) . Comparisons of AV to CCP are indulgent, uninformed, and downright silly, but I understand the wish to emulate such a decent team.

Its funny i thought that happened inside the US, the nation with the biggest secrecy conserning population interest subjects. The games secrecy is all about a shamefull attempt to make people buy a flawed game, thats all.

The US is not the UK or "a lot of places in Europe." In the U.S. racist organizations can (and do) acquire public permits to demonstrate in public, urban space, and do so with the protection of local authorities. They do not get arrested for doing so...I have several friends who have been permitted to protest a nationwide religion donning masks without the fear of police reprisal. We do have our hiccups, but for the most part, free speech is still constitutionally protected in both practice and law. Sorry.

Ummm, we can say anything we want in public. The worst that will happen is you might get your ass kicked by someone else for being racist. Being a New Englander and having spent a lot of time in Boston I have never yet been arrested or fined for saying anything that was on my mind in public.

 

Oh well just me being misinformed then, there are a lot of things you can be arrested for just saying here in Britain and rest of Europe. Well you get arrested for saying them if you are white, non whites can say anything they want about us without repurcussion.

My statement was not about Europe. We have our problems, freedom of speech (outside the workplace, and with common sense given your surroundings) is not one of them. My () disclaimer was because I understand free speech, and common sense, can be very separate entities. As for your claim of speech in Europe, or it's limits along racial lines, I am speechless (also free). I don't know what your context is, and I don't know you.

Darkfall could be a great game and it could be a scam.  Personally I think it's like a used car, looks good but just doesn't feel right.  I'm gonna sit on the side line.

     The last game I waited for was Warhammer. They know what PR is all about.  They allways had something new on their website, wether it was new info on content, or why they were taking something out of the game.  Every time you checked them out, you left knowing those guys were interested in the gamer, which kept me goin back.

     Here on the other hand, nothing has changed on the DF site for what, 2-3 weeks?  A history of last second delays?  All we have to go on is hearsay and speculation, and reading one or two posts will tell you what kind of publicity that'll get you.

     I've been watching/waiting for this game for a little while, and allthough the game may turn out to be a fantastic game, the lack of news and being kept in the dark is waekening my confidance this game/company.

I keep telling you to give it up. Anyone ho thinks this game is coming out is nuts.

It takes no time to write up a progress report on a monthly basis, even if it consists of mostly fluff topics. Hell even having a few dev blogs such as dev bio postings asking stuff like "Whats your favorite food/book/TV show/etc?" would be a step in the right direction, something that would let the fans get to know the devs. Instead all the community gets are a few sparse updates that are pretty much a rehash of a previous one, or interviews that are vague and posturing.

I mean even games that have died before launch had active dev/community participation. And its not due to team size either. The 'Small team' thing is just an excuse. What it looks like to me is that the DFO dev team doesnt want to build up any sort of relationship with its community, and this is bad. People wonder where all the speculation begins; it begins when there is lack of information. Aventurine is the cause of all the speculation surrounding the project.

And as you said, the game could turn out to be fantastic, but the lack of anything will cause this game to fly way below the industry radar and possibly suffer in the long run because of it.

 its 7 days now but yeah i agree looks like another delay now :(
