Hey all,

I decided to give EQII a go, and I am starting the game tonight after work.  I have a few questions that you have all probably answered en-masse in the past, but I appreciate if you could do it one more time:

1. Do I need all the expansions from the start to play?  I read that the "Echos" expansion is the one that breaks down the sub-classes (I.E. Erudite (race) Sorcerer (class) Wizard (sub-class from Echos xpac).  Is that right? Or will I still be able to become a wizard and play the game until level 50 without the first xpac?

2. What is the main grind like? Is it more beneficial to quest grind or mob grind?

You wont need any expansions to start a character without subclasses.  Its completely removed from the game.  IMO buy Shadow Odyssey because it gives you all xpacs and you will definitely want all of the playable content in the game.  EoF/RoK is a must nowadays, because the Timorous Deep starting area is far superior in quest gear and leveling time to 20 than any other starting area.

Yeah not feeling it so far.  I know I am a pain in the ass on here.

I think what I want is a good Mindless Mob grind MMO where it is actually more efficient to grind than quest.

The only difference between a Troll and a Fanboi is which side of the fence they stand on.

I think I maybe did 2 quests the entire time I played Anarchy Online... give AO a try.

I also prefer grinding over quests.

The reason I left EQ2 was because you couldn'thave a lowbie character with it's full potential of power at low levels.

So if I would be fighting another lower level with expansionsm he would have an advantage. Pluss I felt it was more of a PvE game than PvP.

But other than that I thought EQ2 was a great game, nice graphics and very nice crafting.

Well, don't grind. Thats the mistake alot of players make. They start the game and figure grinding is the way to go. If you grind you'll get bored really really fest. There's a reason its called EverQUEST. Because the whole point is to quest. If you're not questing, then why are you even bothering to play at all?

My website is closed temporarily. Hopefully it will only be a short delay.

I played Eq2 from day of release for about 1 1/2 years. Then i made a return a number of months ago and was quite happy. The newer zones are far superior for drops,i believe the Timorous Deep sounds familiar as the best area.I believe that is also the area you get the CAPE quest for a nice early cape around level 18 i think it was.Over all the drops from 1-20 are far superior to anything in older zones. You will be basically like a player geared with elite boss gear, things like a wand that was like +15 int and just everything was boosted with great stats.I think i was still using a few early level drops even at level 30/40.

The only reason i am not playing now,is because SOE botches up every single dam account i do with them grrr. They had a thing where if i returned i get to keep all the expansions for free,i had most of them anyhow ,but of course i did not have the newest two expansions.Well they botched that all up and would not give me anything promised, the account system was totally messed. So i just gave up the cherade and said screw it.

EQ2 is sort of dead player wise ,at that last time i played around 6 months ago, they needed server mergers badly.I am not sure if the yfinally made them recently,if they have then the player base would be not so bad.On average the server i was on had around 800-900 players, that is REAL bad.Funny thing about EQ2 unlike all other games,is that even with a low player base, the players are usually friendly and willing to join up for parties all the time.

well that is not correct at all... a server will not have 800-900 players.  Most guilds have around 100 each minimum, and that is only an average guild.  So, based on your 800-900, then there are only 8-9 guild?  no, sorry.  Not true.  Some of the larger guilds have A LOT MORE than 300.  Granted they are not all on at the same time.

There is always chatter going on in open channels.

My recommendation to any new player, get the trial first.  It used to take you to level 10, but they increased that.  Most classes dont start to develop until you get to the 20's-30's.  Then, if you like the game mechanics, then get the lastest xpack.  It is an all inclusive.  Then, play away.  Once you are in your 20's press the U button and start looking for a guild that suits your play style.  Also, save your self the trouble, and dont start pm'ing the guild leaders of the big raid guilds.  Start with a smaller guild that has an average level close to your own.  You cant imagine the wealth of information you will get from them.  Then, as you see fit, either grow with them or move on.
