Do you make more isk mining or salvaging in Eve? I have been running missions and doing salvaging, and make roughly about 2mil isk every few hours which seems pretty slow. I am only running level 1 missions, and am kind of tired of grinding to lvl 2. I have been training to do mining, I could have a Osprey, Mammoth, and mining skills up to lvl 4-5 in a few days. I already bought the mammoth and Osprey, so just need to train the skills. I would also be mining in .6-.7, as my Osprey will have 4 drones and a heavy launcher. Thanks for any help!

I'd say that it probably all depends on the finer details.

if you stick with lvl 1 missions you wont make much, but if you're grinding through lvl4's youll make a hell of alot more...

Similarly with mining, what you mine, how much, and where you sell it all come into it

A Good Sandbox isn't about your characters abilities; It's about the players ability.

I would defiantly consider getting the Osprey up to speed. The thing about mining is you’re much less likely to lose a ship. I would find a .5 system with lots of belts that is not a hub. Mining, salvaging, and ratting can be a nice safe break from missions and bring in good isk. There is also the opportunity for the occasional windfall if you find the right rat to loot or ship to salvage. Exploration is also a good option but it takes a fair amount of training.

Anyone can use the onboard scanner to run a 30 second scan for cosmic anomalies. Just fly to each planet in a solar system and pull up the scanner. Make sure cosmic anomalies and onboard scanner are selected, it's pretty hit or miss.

You really need to get to level 4 missions to see any real money, and buy that time losing a ship will really bite. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but you really need a fall back and the osprey is perfect for that. The osprey might have trouble handling the rats and mining at the same time at first, but it won't last long and shouldn’t be a problem if you’re not AFK.

I've found variety is the spice of life when it comes to making ISK

EDIT: I don't think you'll need a heavy launcher for high-sec rats, the standard should work better.

Join faction warfare and do some pvp and ninja loot the wrecks after a fight, not only is it more fun than crappy missions and mining but its definitely more profitable than low end missions or high sec mining in anything less than a hulk. If you get lucky you can make 5-10 mill an hour on a good day.

Currently playing:

Skyrim.

do you have the connections skill? It give a simple standings increase to friendly npcs, a couple of levels (or 3) will give you acess to lvl 2 agents. The salvage in lvl 2s is much better than lvl 1s.

another idea is from here.

Take this for example: I had no money, crap for skills, no ships, no corp.. and the thought of running missions or mining veld in a velator was not appealing. So I said to myself.. where are there resources in the game that would be easily accessble to a character of my ability? Then I remembered that 0.0 ratters often leave their wrecks and loot untouched because they just want the bounties and high end spawns and loot. Since the velator is a free ship, and your clone is free up to 900k sp (and damn cheap up to a couple million) you can fly pretty fearlessly in 0.0.. I went out and roamed around NPC controlled 0.0 and looted abandoned wrecks. I refined the loot at NPC stations and sold the minerals, and sold a few nicer mods. Yes, my refining efficiency was abysmal. Yes, the buy orders for most minerals at 0.0 stations pay terribly. Yes I got one-shotted in my velator a few times when BS resawned on top of me, and yes I got podded pretty regularly by bemused players (I wish I had a transcript of one convo in local when they realized I had actually fitted a velator with a warp core stabilizer). The point is that I looked at the available options and came up with a way to make a couple hundred million isk while I was still training my learning skills... and it was FUN!

I told my wifeabout this idea when she started playing. I also mentioned that out in Providence where it is 0.0 and NRDS (not red don't shoot) it is also 'safe'. within a few weeks she had picked up a couple of hundred million.

Nice, not a bad idea I may give it a shot while waiting for my training to get done :).

Just remember that getting to nullsec might get you blown up a few times.

To my knowledge - at least if you're not heavy industrial - salvaging is more valuable than mining. Mining in the beginning yields a small amount of ore, and it's all low-end ore which isn't worth much. Even with the high prices on tritanium..

Salvaging gives good money, especially high-end salvage from BS-spawns and so on. So.. Going to NRDS space is probably a good idea - if everyone else didn't get the same idea.

If you want to be a salvager and make some serious money then your probably going about it the wrong way.

What your doing is salvaging your OWN stuff.  which is pretty crappy stuff if your on low level missions!..

What you want to do is find some popular mission running systems (systems with lots of level 4 agents) and just simply ask players running lvl 4 missions if you can salvage.

Dodixie is a good system,  ive seen many players offer up their wrecks, and quite often ive let people salvage my level 4 missions because they are new and needing some ISK.

I let some dude salvage my Angel extravaganza lvl 4 mission, he said he made about 8million!!...

So yea, dont be afraid to go from system to system asking if you can salvage to help make some money since your new.  You may even illicit some donations ;)

Later on, when you get skilled at probing (which is going to be really easy with the next expansion) you can become a salvage theif!..

In the short term, Id say salvaging would be more profitable, but if you concentrate on skilling up mining skills then further down the line mining will be more profitable.

I haven't been playing much lately and really don't have the time to invest in doing a 1-3 hour mission then spending 30-1hr salvaging it so...  I've started doing what others have suggested.

Scan down folks in a crowded missioning system and find Level 4s.  Then start salvaging them...  Course, if you care about upsetting people you can ask for their permission before you salvage - I don't.  The crying and whining I receive makes it more entertaining.

And, for the record, anyone who calls it "ninja" salvaging or anything like that is mis-informed.  Wrecks in space do not belong to anyone as CCP has stated.  The items/loot inside the wreck do belong to the person/fleet/corp that made it go pop though.  This is why you can salvage wrecks all day and not go flashy red but if you remove any loot from the wreck or the resulting can once it is salvaged you will go flashy red to the "owner" of the loot - which can lead to even more fun...

[edit] Forgot to mention:  Salvaging others wrecks tends to net me anywhere from 2mil to 15mil an hour, depending on the mission I find. Running L4s by themselves nets me roughly 10-30mil/hr and salvaging my own L4s after clearing them can throw in another 2-15mil.  I've been playing since 2006 and under Industry I have 1 skill:  Mining I - soo, I won't comment on that being worth your time or not - not my thing.

Just be aware that much of 0.0 space is NBSI (Not Blue, Shoot It), not NRDS. In other words, expect everyone to be hostile.

in highsec lvl 4 missions plus salvaging/looting makes you a bundle and is a hell of a lot less boring than mining imo. If you want to make money mining I think you need to be in a good corp in 0.0
