Q/A explaining why I, me dummenumse, am such a rabid fanboy!

Why are the fanboys so... fanboyish?

Darkfall is by now the only game promising what many have been missing since the days of UO. The sandbox fantasy setting. We really do not know if there are any other suppliers of such a product in years to come.

But are you not discouraged by negatve leaks from closed beta?

Apparently not. The beta may be incomplete. Even the release may be lacking alot. But it still remains the only game that promise the above. Thus the willingness to support the project is still there in spite of bad news. And still there if the game is not even finished at release.

Many says the game seems unfinished or unpolished? does that not trouble you?

No. I do not expect a totally finished game at release. Few people do that with any MMO. There will be bugs and stuff. But thinking back it was actually fun to find those in UO. It will be fun to be part of the shaping of the game after release.

But Tasos has stated so many inconsistensies, does that not make you lose faith in Aventurine?

Again no. He promises alot and I believe that they have wanted to do all that with the game. That is ambition, though they have not (yet) been able to fulfill it all. The promises say something about the vision of the game and as a fan of the sandbox concept this is a reason to hope for what the game may one day become!

Why ignore the sluggish animations?

I do not need a Aion-like game with pretty angels (or whatever they are). I do not mind that my character does not wear glimmery armor and the like. And hell my orc can even walk funny. I want free PvP.

Why not question the postponed launches and NDA?

They postpone to finish more of the game which is fine. The beta leaks keep me confident that stuff is happening behind the curtain so the NDA is basicly irrelevant.

Do you really think Darkfall is the game to revolutionize the MMO industry?

Nah that is just sales garbage. The game appeals to me in vision and intent. Others feel the same.

What if they cheat you of your pre-order money?

I once bought a pair of shoes I did not like and never used. It sucked. But I got over it. They looked cool in the shopping window though.

What about all the promised features partially or wholly left out?

They wanted to do alot. Ofcourse they couldnt make all that happen. I am not surprised by that. Perhaps it will be in at a later time. It seems they want it to be there.

in a way its kinda sad. the company had many examples of other mmos out there and their outcome for wanting to do so much.

I still think they could have gone the route of adding the main features of the game that were important and slowly implementing others as the game progressed. They could have had the game out and a steady playerbase to cover the cost to improve their product.

Given he is a beta tester, I do not think the above counts as breaking any NDA. He just says he is having fun.

If this game succeeds silence is probably gonna become the norm for the lead up to game releases.

 How i wish that was true..but even if it releases and A LOT of ppl sign up,many can come and find only bad things about it. And that would not be necessarily trolling (many ppl do the trash talk about WoW,and it's an HUGE mmorpg success),that would mean only different players wanting different experiences.

I had a dream of darkfall once,but guards being replaced by towers,the "not a single update to the site or forum" policy and AV pr treating fanbase like shit..dude...Of course,i'm not buying an ideology (that's why an visionary project isn't that attractive if doesn't deliver a good game. I will play the game,not the ideology behind it),so my plan is just wait to the game release (for sure not in the 25),see the reviews (when the old "they will fix it after release" point will be absurd) and decide. For sure MANY fanboys r going to accept bravely the bait role.

Actually, most  NDAs say that you cannot even say you are in the beta in any way shape or form.

Yea if people wonder why some of the fans throw the word troll around a lot....suggesting this game is still "the strictest def of vaporware" is trolling......you want it to be vaporware so bad....you want to say you were right so bad...this game no longer qualifies as vaporware....that is a FACT.

The fact of the matter is - I've played this game over a friends house.. an it's a horrific horrific amateur mess that still looks like it's in some kind of terrible alpha state.

it's like what you would expect to play from some kind of free game.. and still things like Ships were not there... and all of the main features were non existent. There was nothing there but an empty world and very basic mechanics .. it was a shell of a game..  and it played like a really really dumbed down less polished version of planet side.

I think you missed the point in his post.  He was pointing out that games in a beta stage can still be canceled.  No game exists until it is officially released, excluding free games.

No reason to get defensive because he pointed out a fact about the videogame industry that goes against your want for this game. 

Personally, I think it will get pushed out regardless of the state it is in.  Even with a half-canned game, it appears they will get better money releasing it than cutting their losses now via bankruptcy support.  They still have enough people who will purchase a game just to find out what it's like.  The genre hasn't seen a release in a while and that could benefit them.
