anyone who would say "it is vaporware until you can login and play" and "darkfall is still vaporware" is in need of serious help, and some sunlight. the only people who would say that are the people who jumped on the "lol vaporware" bandwagon without knowing what it meant and thought it was cool to say it, and now wont man up and admit they were wrong. the first quote, clearly is just wrong when dealing with the definition of vaporware. the second one...well no point explaining that to someone who would say the first one.
~~ Darkfall Recap of everything that has happened the last 3 months: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/213296 "The monsters are tough. I was looking for a challenge, but these things are just too damn smart." -DF Beta Tester "If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos |

This can occur for several reason, including (1) development difficulties that make the product less satisfactory than initially expected, (2) cost overruns that make it no longer economical to complete development or produce the product and (3) changes in market conditions that reduce demand and/or profitability. Intentional vaporware refers to a product that a company has no intention of producing or selling even when it is announcing or advertising it. Some companies use this as (1) a means to discourage customers from buying competitive products, (2) a trial balloon for testing the market for a new product and (3) a way to increase its stock price.
There is a good definition of Vaporware and Darkfall does fit into that definition.

Originally posted by originalegg Didn't read the thread but I can answer your question: yes it is a single guy creating mmorpg.com accounts, posting 10-25 darkfall troll posts and then getting banned, over and over and over.
He has been doing this for at least 2 years that I know of. He's been known by numerous forum names: some of the more recent ones are: - TenSpotting - ipon - atekrums - bannedtv - orlybird - kilixen ..and about 20 other names i could list, but you get the drift.
His modus operandi is always the same: create new account, write 10-25 posts, all in the Darkfall general forums, and all blatant trolls, send PMs to anyone who defends the game, calling them a moron, comparing DF graphics to 2003 games, etc etc, just total nonsense.
His account then gets banned and he creates another new account and the cycle continues.
Whenever you see a new poster with < 25 posts posting some random DF hate, there's a 95% chance it's this same, sad joke of an individual.
It is also highly likely it is the same guy that Tasos wrote about once in the DF forums. Basically an obsessive DF hater, who got burnt/fired/insulted/asskicked/who knows by Tasos and has never gotten over it, or just some total nutcase with serious psychological issues, or both.
i thought almost everyone who's been hanging out around here knew about this guy, evidently not.
pretty frickin hilarious, hey.

Its very simple, Vaporware is a software product that NEVER GETS RELEASED. Its not game that tanks, or goes bankrupt due to bad sales, thats not called vaporware. And this line: Or if it does become available, it lacks some of the promised features and performance. Apparently tailor made to suit ur needs, and yet contradicts the previous line...
Its funny to me when u had to omit the Wikipedia entry that is obviously the first place one would look for definitions, for this drivel.

Every MMO ever released also fits that definition of vapourware.
If you're seriously suggesting DF is vapourware now that there are hundreds of beta leaks & reports out there and with 10 days left to go until release you sir, have brain damage.

Maybe I should have posted the URL for those of you that seem to think wikipedia is the end all be all of definitions. I have never ever been to that site and never plan to.
Here you go www.linfo.org/vaporware.html
And just because there are beta leaks doesn't mean crap. It is vaporware until it releases plain and simple. All MMO"s are vaporware until they are released.

And forever after according to this definition. Did u know world of warcraft originally promised guild housing. Thats why there is a locked instance portal inside of Stormwind, the idea was it would take u to an instanced neighbourhood with ur guild house in it. It never made it into release and they scrapped it later for technicall reasons.
But according to ur own definition, World of Warcraft, highest grossing MMO game of all time, with 12 million accounts world wide is in fact Vaporware!!

I guess you only read part of what you want and then spin it. I am done arguing with you.
As the saying goes "Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience"

I would only change one thing here. Not ALL MMO's are vaporware. Only those MMO's that have a troubled development, such as inordinate delays, changes in management, missed release dates, etc. For example, The Old Republic is not vaporware. If it has trouble in the development, then it will become Vaporware, and the ONLY way to change that would be to release the game, not just to prove it exists. |

Its Revenge for all the Trolling Pvpers have Done to Us Pve'ers over the years With yalls Stupid Everything Must Be Pvp Zomfg crap... If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. |

Yes lets make up our own definition of a term with whatever arbitrary arguments suit us for this particular debate.
Vaporware = Software that never makes it to release. Darkfall=Being released the 25th. Do u think Darkfall wont make it ?

January 22. How dare you present him with logic! Don't you understand? He fights epic fights, in epic games, with epic toons....eats epic food and takes epic dumps! He has more e..pic..icity...ness in his little finger than you have in your whole unepic body! - ChicagoCub |

Being released =/= released. You can make this claim AFTER the 25th, not before. You could have said the saem thing for Jan 22, but the game didn't release on Jan 22. See the difference between "released" and "being released"? |

Isn't it time to postpone this Flamewar until the game is actually out? Really both the haters and lovers are getting pathetic now, writing exactly the same stuff in every thread. Let's have the discussion whenever the NDA lifts instead. |

I don't know about you guys. One of the best things to do is life is to find a game that's not released, and that I haven't played. Next, I like to imagine it being the best game ever. After that, I go on the forums, and call everyone trolls, and its the best game ever. Who's with me? I like to ignore the fact that I've never playing the game, I ignore the fact that its 9 days before the 16th release date over a span of 8 years with no info, I ignore the fact that US players won't be able to play, I ignore the fact that there will be a very limited amount of copies, etc., etc.
