Well in engineering yesterday we found a fun browser game and about 10 of us started to play together and enjoy ourselves until the bellrang, but then today one of the guys who wasn't playing it asked me in english why were we playing sum stupid stick figure game, and i said to him its all we had to do, and we had all them people playing with us. So then he says he plays WoW and WoW has 10 million people in it wich makes it better than any other online game out there, i then respond with my trademark dumbass. Yes he is new to the MMORPG genre but thats no reason for the guy's ignorance.

the only reason WoW has so many subscribers is that anyone and their grandmother can understand and play the game even if their computer can be considered a relic.

also, in asia subscriptions do not work really the same way...

none the less, i applaud their success, they are geniuses when it comes to marketing and appealing to the greater masses.

only problem is that the concept of extreme user friendlyness has become contagious and every other MMO out there tries to do what WoW did.... but without key factors that make WoW so popular

to OP, no, not really funny, maybe i had to be there to find it funny.

and ill stick with EvE online and let the rest of the 10 million bazillion people play what they like.

to me WoW isnt crap because of graphics so dont pull that card on me. WoW just got boring to me and thats why i dont like it. But im just trying to show how many WoW players are new to the industry and are to damn lazy to do some research on a good game and just pick up what has the most people playing and say its the best.

1.) It's not a matter of being too lazy...but I don't think they realize that other MMORPGs exist. I didn't know about other games until I started visiting the WoW Off-Topic forums. So it's not that they are lazy, they just don't realize other MMOs are out there

2.) What do you mean by "good game"? What's good to you may not be good to someone else. I think WoW is a very good game...and I don't even play it anymore, but please...list for me some of these "good games" that you speak of, O Authority On All Games!

yeah but thinking WoW is the best game without even looking at the others is adbsurd and the dude has played a few MMORPGs before and has heard of the big ones like guild wars ,EQII, WAR, etc.

well i guess your right...no point in fighting about it :), something else funny is this guy named Josh plays Guild Wars and Runescape and calls EVE and WoW nerdy because of the type of people that play them and because they get more advertising? any thoughts why?

On the flip side...you have the people that just hate the successful companies. It could also be 1.) he finds Sci-Fi to be geeky and 2.) He finds High Fantasy to be geeky.

People have a lot of crazy reasons for hating certain games. I think your other friend hasn't given those games a chance and he is just generalizing based on what he's been told or maybe one bad situation he found himself in.
