Police: Sex Assault Suspect Met Teen Through Internet Role-Playing Game BEDFORD, Pa. -- An active sexual assault investigation in Bedford County is just another reminder for parents to keep an eye on their children. Bedford state police arrested Daniel Czelusniak, 24, of North Royalton, Ohio. They said he met a 14-year-old girl from Manns Choice over the Internet and traveled to have sex with her. Investigators said the two met four years ago while playing World of Warcraft on the Internet, an interactive role-playing game where players from all over the world can meet and strategize while playing with one another. Players will often start friendly relationships with one another. However, in the case of Czelusniak, he drove out to meet the teen back in March of 2008. State police tell WJACTV.com the two had sex numerous times in hotels as well as at the girl's home. Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins said he realizes it's difficult for parents to keep tabs on their children. But he said parents can check their computer browser's history and see the addresses that have previously been visited. Stay with WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com for continuing coverage.

Certainly confusingly told.
"He met a 14 year old girl over the internet" Which would seem to imply she was 14 when he met her. Yet he drove up to her in March 2008.
So perhaps it was 3 years + since they met or so and she's 17?
Ah well, guess it makes more sense if she's 14, otherwise he should have been smart and waited another year -_-
I assume the legal age in the US is 18?

I hate how the laws here can be fucked so hard. There have been cases where 18 year olds have been charged and registered as sex offenders by either dating or having sex with a partner that was 17. More than likely caught by the parents and charged. I understand the need to keep your kids safe, but do some of these people realize what being put on the sex offenders list does to someone? As for the article, it doesn't really shock me. This has been going on since the internet was around, and it was only a matter of time before someone used an MMO for it.
Groovy. |

It seems like there should be some "age difference" rule on top of the hardcoded age limitations. As in it's ok if the two people have less than a 3 year age difference or something like that. Lol, Its not a very hard law to understand. As for it being a fallible system every system is....your home town buddy should have been registered as a sex offender because ....HE WAS. He broke the law, whether he felt he had a good reason to or not. I have four daughters. Part of my job as a father to them is to help guide them in their relationship decisions. You better believe I would have anyone that had sex with them underage put away and registered as a sex offender. I could give a rats if it was some dumb kid barely 18 and somehow the two of them thought they were in love. If they were in love they could always wait. But i know that's just to much to ask. Its as easy as another poster put it.....dont eff a 17 year old.

Why should age be a difference when it comes to sex and love? A 28 year old banging a 17 year old is no better than a 20 year old banging that same girl. Excuses can be given for every scenario but the law is the law plain and simple. Just follow the laws that are in place and you won't have to worry about issues like this. |

Learn to read. When a paper says they met at 14, they don't mean on the internet. YOU may consider that meeting someone, but in the REAL world, and in the media, IRL is what they mean. He met her in March 2008, when he was 24 and she was 14. He started a friendship with her 4 years before...when he was 20 and she was 10! In few states is 14 age of consent, and in no country outside the third world is 10 years old considered proper. Even where 14 is considered AoC(lol, AoC), That is WITH PARENTAL PERMISSION. |

It depends on the state. Each state has a different age of consent. The state the guy from the article is from is PA, where the age of consent is 16. So anyone of the age 15 and below in that state can not consent to sexual intercourse. Even if you have evidence (written, video, etc) of consent from a partner that is 15 or under, if there is a complaint issued to law enforcement from the minor or a third party (say their parents) it's an automatic statutory rape charge if you are 18 or over. No fine, no slap on the wrist, automatic felony charge. This is why it is really important for parents to inform their children when they near the age of 18 of the federal and state laws for the areas they live in, and make sure they understand them. Once you are 18, you will be tried as an adult, so it is that persons responsibility to under stand the law. A 24 year old meeting a 14 year old is totaly unacceptable, this ped should have definitely known better. |

If you are going to make stuff up then make it good...statutory rape is a four year difference between the two. So he would have to be 20 to be jailed. In may states the legal age of consent is 16...Maryland, New York, most of the Midwest is 16. |

I'm editing this down, the laws are so spread out on this topic per state, there are way to many answers. Here's a list of states with the listed ages of consent per state, if you're unsure of your state make sure to get yourself informed. www.livestrong.com/article/12483-age-consensual-sex/ |
