Hello. I've been playing MMORPGs ever since i started playing runescape, and I've tried pretty much every MMORPG out there till now. I'd like to point out in the beginning that I'm a great fan of PvP, I do like raiding too, but only if I feel so. So far I've come down to 2 options, either continue AoC or try WAR. Anyway, I made a 7 days trial account with the key that i had, and well, it runs okay on my desktop pc. I do like the combat system in AoC, I don't know how it will be in PvP but at least in questing it was a bit more fun to grind monsters, than just smashing 1,2,3 like in wow or something, you actually have to be active in the game while questing and not watching a movie meanwhile.
Now I have 0 idea of what WAR is about, only thing I've played is DoW2 beta on steam, and well I didnt get it at all. I'm not a big fan of the WAR characters, little goblins and orcs, design failed big time there, I do like the elves and humand however and that big "bad guy"
Don't know what else to say, might point out that I really hate leveling especially walking, I rather spam 2 buttons for 5 hours to ding like in knights online rather than level in wow... So, what do you think, do you have any recommendations? |

I would advise you just skip this thread completely and make a new one on the general fourms. you will get less baised opinions and well prob less hatred. Watching Fanbois drop their soap in a prison full of desperate men. |

AoC felt very much like a console game, very shallow...instanced WaR felt very much like a pvp grind in WoW, actually...its very similar besides open RvR (wintergrasp has that now), over all its kinda fun, but u will get bored quickly Neither of them kept my interest past the first free month.... I did enjoy Lord of the Rings Online, but if ur not into PvE really i wouldnt do it....

im trying not to be biased because i have played both these games but the one i am still subbed to is WAR. When i did play AoC i enjoyed it at first but it got progressivly more boring IMO i was not a huge fan of the combat system and i didnt like the FFA PVP. With WAR i found the PvP to be a lot more fun (especially more so than WoWs) because you do actually get groups of order and destro PvPing in open world for battle objectives etc and the scenarios although often one sided are more fun IMO than WoWs battlegrounds. Also if you dont want to be running around quest grinding to level you can level solely by PvP and scenarios and a lot of people actually do, i however prefer to join a scenario qeue and then begin doing quests and join in and out of scenarios in between questing to make the levelling process a bit less tedious. ![]() |

I wouldn't pick either. AoC is probably in a better shape than WAR at this point though. WAR is losing subscribers constantly, still doesn't offer much PvP to be honest and the hyped up PvP endgame city siege is almost entirely made up of a public PvE quest. Very little PvP. It's also still troubled with bugs from beta, no content planned until at least after June, unless you count the planned "expansion pack" with 2 MORE classes and one dungeon as an expansion pack at all. If you absolutely HAD to pick, I'd go with AoC. While I don't know it, haven't played it and wouldn't, it's more than likely it's far more polished and content rich than WAR. |

WAR has announced some large changes recently, You should check the "Call to Arms" update for details. http://www.warhammeronline.com/call_to_arms/index.php I liked the PvP in WoW and I like the PvP in WAR even more. The classes are fun and playing a Tank is much better than playing one in WoW IMO. You can gain XP by PvP-ing which is really, really nice, in fact I've probably gotten most of my levels by PvP-ing. WAR calls PvP Realm vs Realm or RvR but they mean the same thing, There are two types - Scenarios which are like WoW battlegrounds but with more variety. And Open World RvR where you capture keeps and objectives and eventually get to capture the enemy capital city. There have been issues with people not doing as much Open World RvR. Scenarios drew more people because they gave better XP. Mythic has been trying to change that by offering more Open world rewards. Another major problem with as been with crashes. This is still something they're working on with stuff like putting in population throttles on zones (if you're below a certain level you get teleported away if you try to enter). It's still an issue and Mythic says they're working on it. For PvE content and world setting WoW is defintely stronger. WAR has something called Public Quests that you should look up but I haven't found them as entertaining as the PvP simply because it's hard to find people to do them. Again Mythic has plans to make 'easy' public Quests for 1-3 people that could help. As for the setting, most buildings in WAR are set pieces that you can't enter which is disappointing. Frankly nobody has been able to match the Blizzard WoW art/world design team when it comes to making an immersive world. Some zones in WAR are a real pain to navigate if you hate walking (I do too!). Mythic is kind of addressing this by putting in more Flight Masters which could help but right now I don't think any online world can match Azeroth when it comes to art and zone design. There are free trial keys floating around if you can get someone to give you one. The Call To Arms says they're says they're going to have a general Free Trial soon (along with official forums). I'd advise trying the free trial if you can, it's always the best way to decide if a game is right for you. Overall, WAR has issues but Mythic seems to be aware and taking steps to address them. That makes me feel better about playing the game and I'm enjoying it more than other MMORPGs out there right now. That doesn't mean everyone will, you need to decided for yourself if it's a game you'd like. |

Well, since booth game turned out to be failures a few weeks after launch they have now got some time to fix things... Overall, by looking at those games today I would say:
Graphic: AoC allways had good graphics, unfortunately some players didn't have hardware enough enjoy it tho. War on the other hand allways had its mediocre graphics but still alot ppl having lag! AoC-WAR 1-0
Fun: Well, both games are atleast playable but perhaps not very fun though, uptil endgame. Both games are having a horrible endgame. And that is from launch and still is... AoC-War 0-0
Population: Both games were launched with pretty big numbers but after a few weeks more and more people unsubbed! AoC are lately said to be gaining a few subs. back into their game while War who had around 300k about a month ago seems to be dropping more and more for every week. However, both games will go thru this year struggling to survie. AoC-War 0-0
The World!: War feels very claustrophobic and linear but AoC is in no way better. AoC is way to instanced! AoC-War 0-1
Overall, I woulnd't suggest any of these games but if I had to make choise? I would have picked AoC.

Is free trials available? Good, go ahead OP and try out the game!! If there aint no free trials available just wait til there is one.
Critisizing a game is not equal to trolling! It just giving a person, just like OP a chance to read both good and bad things about a game from different posters. Myself, do NOT want a person to throw their money into a deep black whole regretting themselves... Remember, a lot of ppls here are in schoolage so therefor they don't have that much money. Just because one could throw the gamebox into the garbagecan and just buy another one doesn't mean that everyone else can!
People deserves to hear both sides. |

I have tried both & much prefer WAR. I have never played WoW so i can't help you there. I was enthusiastic about AoC to begin with, but after a few months just became very bored . By contrast I have now played WAR for much longer & have not lost interest at all. It all depends on what you want from a game, I prefer the look & feel of WAR & find the community better. Just my opinions though, the best option is to try both & then trust your own. If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"? |

I started playing WAR but was bored with the oRvR,cancelled my sub end of November.I'm playing AoC and find the game fun but on the long run I do see WAR getting better if Mythic pull their heads out of the sand. In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals... |

I played both. Started AoC in Beta and quit in late October about the time when I picked up WAR. WAR graphics are nothing like in the cinematic. If you seen the gameplay videos and you are still OK with the graphics style, then you might like there rest. I personally liked AoC style better. This one is personal choice and only you can decide. World is several times bigger in WAR than in AoC. AoC is also instanced and you will never see 200 vs 200 battles that I see in WAR (Dark Crag server). AoC is is very unbalanced game and developers don't seem to know how to fix it. Every time they release a patch there are more undocumented fckups than documented changes. WAR, on the other hand, has really surprised me with the balance - every class thinks that all other classes are overpowered, no exception. WAR also shows real progress in fixing bugs and improving content. If you liked WoW's PvP, you will like WAR more than AoC. It is almost the same, except it has less ganking (not a lot of overlapping quest zones) and there is no ghost walk. There is constant PvP going on WAR, unlike rez pad gankfest in AoC, which also had no content besides broken and unfinished T2 dungeons. Pick a populated server (medium/high) and try WAR. I recommend Dark Crag - it has tons of Order and Destruction, so you can choose easier.
