I think they are worried about long term use of thier game. They always thought they would not get a large amount of players. I doubt they have more than 1 or 2 servers planned at release. Servers cost money, and they are using all thier cash to try and get ready for launch. It would be a big waste of money and a big hassle to have more servers than they need. Many players will try and leave this game. With the unexpected hype, they could get 100's of thousands wanting to try the game with a trial, then leave. This would overwhelm there servers and cause a major crash. I would think a long term goal would be around 100k base players. That would be both EU and NA players. So, with the preorders, they can allow these players in early, based on the number they get. If they get way more preorders. Then they can announce the stagered release and go from there. “How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?” |

To be honest it doesnt look quite as bad as some people make out but I really cant see it being a great success. The only reason people are going nuts about it is because there arent any other games like it. For many people Darkfall really is their last hope until something else some other games release later in the year. If it flops then for a lot of people its back to hopping from one shitty PvE thempark game to another and roaming around on this website. |

The game does look like ass, there is no denying that. If it didn't have full-loot I doubt it would have many followers at all. The melee combat looks boring as hell and it's extremely apparent that there is no skill involved in it. |

I it possible that they are getting low on cash now. But I want a trial for the game, I would only by a MMO untried if I either like what the devs done before or if I love the IP (I will get World of darkness online by pre order) so I wait until I have the chanse to try it out, I am not sure this is my type of game and I am not impressed by the beta leak videos but if the game is really fun I will still play it... |

You know in AoC beta the game looked just terrible and there was a lot of grumbling going on that it wasn't ready for release. Then a week before the release they push a patch out to beta and the whole thing looked 10 times better. It became apparent that the beta testers weren't really beta testing as much as we were being used to try stuff out on and most of real beta testing must have been going on internally. The point being you can't tell from beta really how the game is going to be cause beta testers aren't necessarily seeing the real deal. Seeing as how AoC turned out, its not such a good anecdote is it? |

Perhaps, seeing as how AoC did immediately after release- it's the perfect anecdote DHayes. If you have content, it's probably a good idea to let it be tested. Devs have a weird view of beta tests these days. Let's have a massive client change with thousands of improperly tested features suddenly turned on and send it to retail! |

Yeah, Funcom showed us why an NDA is kept up till release. Companies that are confident that their game is good will drop an NDA around a month before launch. When they are not confident they will hold it till the game ships. Funcom knew their game wasnt ready for primetime so they kept the NDA up and hoped it would secure them enough time to collect preorder numbers and polishing of the starter game. The plan was to get enough buzz created about how awesome the early levels were to get enough people interested in the game. They also figured that gamers wouldnt blow through the early content before they could patch in the parts that were lacking or missing all together. When testers caught on to what was happening, we were silenced on the forums with either bannings or personal attacks from the devs which caused die hard fanboys to join in. In the end we watched as the game launched and the fanboys tried as hard as they could to save the game by dancing around the subject with lines of "700k people disagree with you" or "its in and working (talking about sieges and city building) just they forgot to turn on tier 3 city building abilities..." |

He wasn't giving it a rating of 6/10, he was rating the "troll" OP.

Seems like that info would be important to know prior to preordering the game. I certainly wouldn't preorder without knowing that sort of basic info first.
I wouldn't either. That's why you, I and others with brain cells are not currently Tasos targeted audience. |

Just curious, if it is in debug, and most things aren't even turned on, would that not even remotely qualify it as being in alpha? Like I said, just found that a bit odd... DarkFall FAQ - Read then Question with Boldness |

What I dont understand, is if you dont like the game, keep the hell away from it then! I honestly dont give a damn about Darkfall, I may try it, I may not. The point is, if you think its going to suck so bad, why are you so interested in it to troll the forums? Go back to whatever little game it is you play, and QQ over there where people care about your opinions and let the people who intend on having a good time with whatever game they choose have that good time. |

This beta has so much odd about it that everything has gone relative and a worm hole has opened inside Tasos' head that sucks all reality into an alternate universe. I think AV will release the game and leave the NDA in effect. Now that would be the only thing I can think of that transcends the current oddity threshold. |

Just because I don't really care to play the game and am not pissing myself waiting for it does not mean I am not interested in how its going. I will continue to play AOC since I have since beta, and will continue to love it.
