Its common knowledge really. Wow = 11 million (jesus christ) FFXI =500k Eve online = 250k -300k Everything else 200k- a few hundred. go google it, check that mmochart site. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

I was online when word got out and EVERY channel I watch including all the locals were filling up with cheers and jeers (mostly cheers). Felt like the end of Jedi when they show all the planets celebrating the end of the Empire, was pretty funny. The best part, NO ONE KNOWS WTF HAPPENS NEXT. Will BOB reform and come back, will Goons even attempt to control the space, massive wars over the territory? That doesn't even begin to touch the economic impact which once again is anyone's guess. Some are guessing it will take months before we really know the real impact. This is why EVE is so great, player generated content. All CCP needs to do is provide the game mechanics and give us freedom then get out of the way. Hell, my player run bank was robbed recently! The only thing CCP should do is investigate the hacking claims with CSM looking over their shoulders. If everything happened the way it sounds then CCP needs to just stay focused on the March expansion. Maybe light a candle for BOB. What did they put in BOB's corp. description "Nice alliance, I think we will take it." That was just classic. |

To give you a comparisson of what happend: In WoW terms - Kungen steals the account info on every single guild member he's ever played with and sells all the chars on ebay at the same time. That's the comparable amount of drama - dont think that would be news worthy? |

not an eve player myself, tried it a few times but never really got into it. but what makes this news really huge is that all players in eve are in the same universe, there is not different servers which have an average of 20-30k players on each of them, there is one big universe that has the 200-250k eve players all in it. so if one of the big alliances in eve dies that means that it has effects on territory control all eve players, and not only on the players of one server like in other mmos. and even in big mmos like wow there are less players per server than in eve. |

untrue, i just started and am enjoying it greatly, been playing for about 3 months total.and already do pretty well in pvp. All your skills are maxed and you are manufacturing T2 blueprints at full factory capacity? You are amazing!
if you approach the game intelligently - you won't have any problems. if you're an idiot - don't even bother, you'll die just as often as you die in wow, eq2, etc, except you won't just "lose precious time running back to your body" in eve. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

Hardly, it's a game with about 250k subscribers or so its far from a "hisoric gaming moment". Guilds backstab each other all the time, the only reason this gets posted here is because part of the EVE community is known for being a bunch of drama queens.
You sound like a complete idiot. And it's obvious you don't or haven't played Eve very long (active 1 year or more). Yes, 250k subscribers....oh yeah all on ONE server.
There is no mmo game that even comes close. WoW is like maybe 20k per server, and maybe 5k concurrent connetions. Eve has sometimes up to 30-40k people playing at the same time.
Furthermore, add to the sandbox of Eve and how the players shape the world and is Eve...there is no comparison in MMO history. You thinking it's not that big deal shows me how little knowledge you actually have of Eve and MMOs in general...
ah a '04 login...great another WoW player who thinks he "knows" MMOs.
Edit: Shadowbane had such things, but not on such a global scale. They were server specific guilds and they didn't rule the server since almost the game conception till now (around 5 years). BoB directly and indirectly influenced how Eve was played by thousands if not 10s of thousands of players.

Ahh damn it I typo'd that wow sub number, in my initial post I said 3rd in NA/Euro. L1/L2 are big in Asia. Lotro is under Eve with around 150-200k But yeah your right world wide their 5th. Its WoW, FFXI (i think those are NA numbers) and EVE. If that 500k for FFXI is worldwide then that would mean EVE has more subs that them in NA/Euro and personally that's the only sub count i give a shit about. It realy doesn't matter to me if it was a hack or a traitor.. all I know is I dont have to travel 50 jumps to sit around and wait for the enemy to outnumber us 10:1 before they will engage. The fights are right in our backyard now and even though the enemy STILL wont engage unless they outnumber us by a good margin It's good fun. Whoever thinks that they can remove BoB from the game, bring it. And this time they cant whine about cyno jammers and soverignty when they get their butts handed to them. |
