Expect more small instanced zones that are long and narrow with only a few routes through it. After that expect even more instancing that are small. |

Personally I did not like tortage that much. Once you leave Tortage you will find BIGGER zones/maps so no more annoying stuff pickup a quest at X map zone to Y map deliver back to X map. After tortage you can expect each map to be bigger then tortage all togheter if you combined all zones into 1 aka Acheronian Ruins+Tortage City+White sands+Underhalls. Basically after tortage you can expect to have lots of fun and PvP .. the problem in Age of Conan is what can i do after I reach max level 80 as not many will be satisfied with raids+Open world PvP+Mini Game+Siege. The king and the pawn go back to the same box at the end of the day. |

People have such different opinions on the post-Tortage experience because it is such vastly different gameplay. While I quit the game after my first month (I think it might have been two months, I honestly can't remember--lvl 56 was the highest I got overall in those two months, later returned and made it to 80), I didn't quit because I hated the post-tortage experience. Actually, I preferred it over Tortage. Tortage is something comparable to Guild Wars PvE. Very very small maps but very very detailed. Missions fluently lead you to the next; it isn't very open questing but it's very well put together. Everything flows like a nice story but it's a very linear story; little to no options. After Tortage, the world becomes very, very open; not as open as say WoW, as there are still some places in AoC after Tortage that have invisible walls (though significantly less) but overall, it's much more larger and less direct. All of the capital areas dependant on your race have a good amount of quests, but most won't lead you on a specific path to another quest; you'll often find yourself running all over the place, overwhelmed and confused. At least that was what it was like for me with my Aquilonian character... much easier and direct for a Cimmerian or Stygian in their respective cities. I can probably sum up the major difference of Tortage to the rest of the game is that it no longer holds your hand.

In short: A steaming pile of crap.
You should expect an mmo that feels like a bunch of battlefield 2 maps hooked up together with loads of loadingzone...

Tortage was amazing
When i first got the game i thought WOW! This is the coolest concept--you do group missions during the day, and personal solo quests at night--I really thought the whole game was going to be like that. Plus with the voice acting I was pretty impressed, but man, for me when I left Tortage I felt like i left the game.
Im probably one of the biggest FC "haters" to walk the earth, but I'd almost recommend to anyone to play the first 20 levels for the Tortage experience.
The MMORPG who de thrones WoW will steal this concept...you watch. |

What should you expect after Tortage? You should expect the real game to start. Tortage is just a semi restrictred intro area for you to get to know your character before being let loose upon the world. I much more prefer the more unrestricted game play. |

Ignore the opinions posted by those that only played the game shortly after launch. The game's improved massively since then. I hated the game after launch because (imo) it was indeed a steaming pile of sh** but after having been convinced to re-try it in December i had to admit the game's gotten a lot better since then. |

The fanbois will come here and tell you that the game has great content for all levels (lmao) but in fact there is no more restrictive and linear gameplay to be found in online gaming. It's sickening how linear they made this game. Tecmo Bowl. |

Expect what you get in all other fantasy MMOs, go here and do that quest etc. Dungeons and pvp. As i said like everyother MMO out there.

Like any MMO, the game fixed problems from launch. So if someone played at launch and didn't care for it, they will come here and say how awful the game is and barrage you with reasons that were, several months ago, probably valid. They patched and tweaked the game since it came out. This is nothing new, every MMO does it. I think that Funcom has done a respectable job of improving this game. Could they do some things better? Yes they could. However, this shouldn't distract that AoC is a good game that just had a LOT of hype surrounding it. For many people their expectations were too high and unrealistic because of that hype. |

I agree. The dungeons are quite good in many cases but you wont be able to go into anyone worth the name before 35. The voice acting will only be at some quests after Tortage but on the other hand do some zones look a lot better then the one in Tortage. The solo gear is getting ugly fast after 25 or so, but the dungeon gear looks really great so as soon as you are 35, head for Sanctum or black castle, it is of course a lot better too. There is still the solo line of quest that you start in Tortage but the mission is getting fewer. And after 70+ the content is getting less and less, particulary the solo one. Either you have to grind the villas or group quest you to 80. Hopefully Tarantia common will be here soon but FC are kinda slow with updates (early they released crappy updates that broke more than fixed so they are careful now). But AoC is like most MMO, looks a little better but still low on content. It will not truly shine until after an expansion or 2 (but the same thing is true with many other MMOs too). But it is fun and I had a good time in the game. |
