I just re subbed last month and have to say that if your computer can run this game it is nothig short of a solid and beautiful looking game.

If you like PvP its in no way for you. If you like PvE and just having a good time in a true fantasy setting with a HUGE world ( sometime to huge ) and have never or like me had played it in beta and just out of beta come back for the 14 day trial and it will not dissapoint.  The n00bie zone has players in it so you wont be alone.  Most of it can be solo'd anyway and the time you do need a group i found them easy enough.

The stability as i said for those not with an up to date computer wont be good for most but still run at lower settings. Even at med settings the game looks and plays great. There is a hitch every so often and somtimes your armor will dissapearon your char but i play on high settings and its ultra rare.

I run with vista and a quad core 2.66 proces, 4 gb ram, single nvidia 9800 on an nvidia i680 MB. Its an alienware area 51.  I have about 40-60 fps in citys and when out solo steady 60fps.

So agin if ya have the computer specs and want to be in a gorgeous setting ( agin PvPs need not apply, though they do have a full PvP server )  you will not be dissapointed.

I still have my WoW sub but im trying to lore my guild away to try this.

All just MO!

The problem is, with Smedley on his RMT kick, I don't think it will be long before SOE infects Vanguard with this disease.....

The game does have some pros and cons.  I liked it and disliked it in the past, and when SOE had their free return this last month, I thought I would give it a look again.  I knew the side I did like, so I purposefully decided on the Dark Elf, whcih was an area I really disliked in the past.  I wanted to see if they have made changes to make this a better experience.

Some things I hated in the Past were the general darkness to the settign which made it hard to see things. The lack of direction and general blahness to the NPC quests and such.  I did fined that though things are still rather dark and blah, as oppesed to say the Dwarf starting area, it seemes a bit better in that I could see where I was going, and the general layout.  The quests have gotten a bit more polish, and  even was able to get through most of the starter area quests rather easily.  One thing I never could find was the Diplomacy and Crafting, and I think they made a big improvement here in showign people how to get itno them in the DE area.

But there were also some things on the bad side.  Just north of the starter area as you head to the Merchant Camp, you have a small zone.  You tell that you zone when you pause, and then do a falling graphic with yoru characater. It got pretty annoying, as you run back and forth through that area a lot.

Combat.  You click, maybe hit a few buttons to do specials (I was a Rogue, so the Bleeding attack and some standard strike attacks -- keys 5 and 2 respectively -- did the trick).  It was rather borign though. But then, this was a newbie area, so 2 NPC's merged at the hip due to placement could not tell when their other half was being decimated.

In all, it was a fairly pleasant experience.  But I still think the Dark Elf is not something that works for me, not because of the character, but because of the environment.

I did not get a chance to try out some of the other issues, but in the past I stopped due to huge imbalace issues (where you have to fight a group of monsters level x and some group of level y would be mixed in or roam too near as to make quests extrememly impossible.  With playerbase so low that you may see 1-2 other people in the area you are in, this makes grouping impossible.  i think the higher level content would be fine with more player base there, but at low levels it just does not work.

Oh, and crafing and Diplomacy, though fun, gets to be rather monotonous.  i do like that as you skill you make better and better things, but you get too much repetition for it to be fun. But it is much better than other games systems where there is no personality to crafting.

In all, I do not think there was enough positive to bring me back from the other games current and on the horizon.

Isn't  "true fantasy setting" an oxymoron?

why is this game about? you posted more about technical compatibility rather than what you think about the game itself.

I've already given' this game multiple chances and the performance issues drive me away each time, and I don't have a weak system... e8400 CPU, 4GB RAM, Radeon 4850. The game is playable away from cities but in no way shape or form should I be getting less than 20 fps in cities with less than a handful of player around might I add, which is the case.

I think its because the game play was always there but the game had technical issues since launch which drove people away from the game.

I think the point is 'Now that the technical issues are minimized, try the game, you'll enjoy it".....at least that's my interpretation.

Agreed Val, This game is simply amazing these days. Like you said if your system can run it in all it's glory. Im running on high settings with 35-45 FPS. 1440x900 Widescreen. And my comp is not that impressive. 1.5 Gigs of RAM. AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (single core) w/ G-force 9500GT PCI Express card. I have a very clean system though with no spyware or background programs running. And with this med rig I must say the game looks and plays better than any of the recent MMO's I've played in the last 8-10 years. Player vs Environment. No PvP to speak of as of yet but they don't really need to mess with it cause there are so many balance issues that work just fine without it. Many many races and classes and starting areas to choose from. Awesome replayability.

Hmm, perhaps I'll give this game another go. I played it at launch and had a pretty good time for a while, but ended up quitting after a month or so. After that, the game just seemed to be going farther and farther downhill. I've been hearing some fairly good things about Vanguard lately though, so I think I'll go give that 14 day free trial a try.

Currently on a quest to try every free-to-play MMORPG. Okay, maybe not every single one, but most of them.

Turn off item compare to fix the vanishing equipped items issue.

I also find running the game on higher settings gives a better performance, due to it using more of your graphics card chipset than CPU power.

As for the low population, join a guild. I've been playing again for five days now and grouped every day without fail, because there are plenty of people my level in the guild I joined and even more just out and about doing their own thing. Once you get a group started, people flock together and the combination of riftways and mounts means no matter how big the world is, a group can form and get together within minutes.

I just tried the free trial and was impressed, not decided to join as yet though. Those who have joined say the game has occasional lag and any bugs are irritating rather than real problems. I have been impressed by what a couple of mates have said about Vanguard and have been thinking of giving it a go, but as yet not had the time.

I recently downloaded the trial after having a horrible experience at the games launch.  AMAZING is all I can say.  I turned up all the settings to max and it looks great.  It was lagging like hell at first but I turned a setting calling Antiscoping (or something like that) off and it runs very smooth (9800GT, 4GB, 9950 X4).  one thing about this game that has always got me is the classes.  Also, if your coming from LOTRO like me, the first thing you notice is COOL MOBS.  No boars, bears, etc.  Right off the bat your killing fire imps and hobgoblins.

I played the free trial and the game looks amazing. Leather armor actually looked like leather, all wrinkly and such. And I think it has the best crafting in any game. I want my crafting to be a mini-game, not just click and combine. And then the diplomacy game, a card game that I barely understood, but between PvE, crafting, and diplomacy, certainly a lot to do.

Now, why I didn't subscribe....I am an MMO player who likes to solo. No time to defend that preference here and now but I was told Vanguard is almost exclusively a grouping game. Sorry, but that is a game killer for me. Really too bad, I liked the game a lot.

actually the game doesnt suck, it has some great old school concepts integrated into it, and is quite beautiful, however sigil f'd it up badly, and you only get one chance to impress these days.
