How is it a lie. A lie is saying something that isn't true.

AoC, WAR, Tabula Rasa, and Hellgate (there's others too) were all games that flopped and weren't prepared at release.

Darkfall is in debug mode meaning more of the data is present so the game blatently is buggy, and a fair majority of beta testers have said it's more prepared than AoC or WAR was.

I think you just painted an imagine in your head that Darkfall will suck and you won't take it any other way.

I at least say there's a huge potentional the game will flop, but I still believe it could be a great entertaining game.

Apparently you missed it:

Tasos Flambouras: "Darkfall could launch today." Dec. 4th 2008

See that date after the quote... that is the date Tasos said those words.  Since we now KNOW that to be a false statement on that date... that would make uttering those words a lie.

Yeah, yeah... we know you don't agree.   That doesn't change the fact he did, and it is.

So your saying that Tasos meant that Darkfall might have launched on  Dec 4th? rofl. That post made my day, I hope you are a troll because I feel bad for the people that know you in real life if you are being serious..

And even better, with that quote I can say he's not lying on it being released on the 4th LOL, it has could in there. Could does not equal the same meaning as will.

Yes, we all realized that you would resort to personal attacks once you were put to it.  It wasn't a big surprise to any of us here... really it wasn't.  Perhaps you weren't looking for as much "discussion" as you claimed?

Still doesn't change the fact that Tasos lied and I even provided the link to prove it like you wanted.

Oh, I'm still waiting for that link to the quote you gave... since you would never stretch the truth about anything that Tasos said... I'm sure it should be pretty easy for you to come through with that link.

I've already put you in my troll category. Not going to reply to someone that took Tasos' figure of speech as a serious statement.

Lol........you have got to be shitting me.

I will resist the overwhelming temptation to start posting quotes and straight up BS that has spewed from the mouths of Tasos and Aventurine over the years.

The blame, good or bad, lies there ....... no where else.

Not sure, but I think it's sad that an indie team is being trashed and held up to a much higher standard than the uber rich design companies.

-- Maybe because the main voice of that indie team makes comments like saying the game "could release today" and that it's "in better shape and more complete than most MMOs at this stage" in their experience...
... months before it would be anywhere near ready to release, and full knowing the game hadn't even been fully or properly tested yet?

-- Or that they said would never give a release date until they knew they could meet it because they know the plans that are made around such things, etc...
... only to give an absolute release date (Jan 22nd) and then delay it a week before?

-- Or that they would never implement a pre-order because they believe it comes across looking like a scam when other companies do it?
... only to turn around and announce that they're taking pre-orders anyway?

-- Maybe because they've been saying the game was "going into beta soon" since 6 years ago?
... and it's still not out?

Maybe you should be asking why Tasos set expectations so high for a game being developed by a group of indie developers, instead of throwing out apologist nonsense trying to make AV out to be the "poor victims", being held unfairly to "higher standards"?

Maybe because its loyal fans have been propping it up as a revolutionary new game that is going to blow away anything else out there (and that's practically paraphrasing some folks here). The fans, frankly, have been placing much higher expectations on DF than any "troll" could.

The so-called "trolls" - aka skeptics and those who've been burned by overly hyped MMOs before - are the ones who've been keeping all the hype in check, taking a "I'll believe it when  I see it" approach; saying they *don't* think AV can live up those claims.
Meanwhile, the rabid fans keep making more excuses for them.

Indeed, those who've expressed doubt that AV could live up to the claims they've put out have been called "trolls" and "haters" time and again.

They're an indie team trying to do something different - why all of the hate?

Hate? No. Extreme incredulity? Yes.

Many have said (for the umpteenth time now), that they are eager to play the game, and hope it comes out well, but do not buy into and are skeptical what Tasos and co. have said.

I know, I know... certain more rabid fans can't seem to wrap their head around that concept; that you can like the idea of a game, but not like the way its developers are handling it. No no... you must get behind both 100%, or you're a "troll" and a "hater". Yes, we've been reminded of that mentality only too often here.

Blizzard could make Darkfall right now (with much cooler graphics/animations and a quality engine) if it wanted to, but they won't. They only want to make what will make them the most money, so they say "fuck creativity" in favor of cash.

So because Blizzard could, but (presumably) wouldn't make a game like DF... we should all "get off AV's back" and not hold them to the very claims *they have made themselves*, per my bullet list above?

I think not.

They've boasted some significant claims of DF, and have set a pretty high bar for themselves these past years... They should be held to no less expectation than what they themselves have set, indie company or no. They are a real company, looking to do business in the real world with real people. They don't get to make bold claims, and then say, "oh... but we're just an indie company" when they don't live up to what they've said.

That's right, keep blaming everyone else for AV's short commings.

Did you really just call people that play AoC and WAR trash?    Honestly, it isn't surpising as the first thing that DF fans do is degrade newcomers, and anyone that doesn't have shrine dedicated to DF.

And for the last part, when you take a game and have it release early because it's going to be scrutinized to a point of no belief, you are ruining it for everyone. And you are wrong when you say it's just their fault for getting in this position. It's not just Darkfall this has happened too, it's happened to countless other games. And it's the media to blame in my opinion for a large part of it.

Media?  What media?   There have been maybe 2 previews done by non-beta players.   Everything that has been said about the game before Jan. 22nd was done so by the devs themselves.   If they didn't want any hype or backlash all they had to do was invite beta players that weren't friend or family.

I've already said DF could have managed it's PR better, so you are left with an empty statement there.

Well, in keeping up with the conversation as a whole, and the dates I mentioned above. Your reply is a cop out and pretty weak.

Get a clue people, One of the main reasons the NDA is still in effect is because Tasos does not want a gaming mag to do a review of Darkfall.

This controlled Beta / trial they opened up to the public has turned into a closed beta with NDA inforced. They said it was only for stress testing the servers but has turned into a bug report beta.

Hell I would go as far as say they have not even hit max server cap yet. Stress test my azz.

Heh... happy to be on your "Troll list" then.

I guess I'm not the type that tries to label everyone who doesn't agree with my opinion in such a hostile way though.

I especially wouldn't go that route after I created a post looking for "discussion" and specifically asked for information, but when it was provided refused to accept that it was reality.

I also would have avoided being so adamant at asking for proof for something that everyone knew to exist, yet when asked for the same type of proof resort to ad hominem attacks.

Yeah, I guess if it were me... I would have tried to avoid all that.  Cheers.

Pretty much.

It's pretty funny to see the spin though.

We've seen it all before.

The arogant attitude.

The false sentiment of wanting discusssion.

The avoidance of reality.

The personal attacks.

Then bail on the thread when it becomes obvious to all of the intent and what is the truth.

Thats o.k. though... we've come to expect it from time to time.

Anyways... You take what I say and spin it, example I had already said that there were over hypers and nay sayers starting stuff before the new comers started rolling in, but it wasn't as bad.

And most of the new comers are trash that are coming from AoC/WAR.

And for the last part, when you take a game and have it release early because it's going to be scrutinized to a point of no belief, you are ruining it for everyone. I've already said DF could have managed it's PR better, so you are left with an empty statement there.

Spin it around? I don't know what you're talking about i simply answered to your original post, personally i am disgusted by most of the "old" community of the official site just BECAUSE they think that anyone coming form WoW, L2,AoC, WAR and a dozen other known and respected mmorpgs  is automatically trash (like they haven't played at all), not "hardcore" enough and not meant to play "their" (LOL)  game.

So i'm left with an empty statement ?What about you? You come here and you start blaming this site and any other because it simply allows all sides to be heard in this mystery  that is called Darkfall and doesn't just allow only the favorable views to come forth. You play devil's advocate and defend Aventurine for any possible future failure of the game and throw it on the "nay-sayers" and the sides that allow them to be heard solely, but i wonder will you be as quick IF the game makes any moderate success,  as to say that a part of it was because of the hype that was offered by the media or are you gonna simply praise Aventurine a bit more for "doing it against all odds and despite the lack of advertisment"?

NOTE: If this was a Forumfall post that stressed out any negative concern about the game would be flammed to oblivion and locked no matter how valid  their points where.

.....................and yes i made it all in yellow just to annoy you a bit more

Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

And for the first part of your post I guess I won't disagree completely, but as I said the game community was quite, (MOSTLY).

I'm sure, actually positive that there were some over hypers back then, but it wasn't as bad as it is now.

I agree it is not as bad as it is now. There are reasons why it is worse. Every MMO when it approaches release attracts more attention. This has been the case with every MMO going back to the AC/EQ days. To imply that this is caused by a specific site or group of individuals is completely wrong.

The community has always been militant... always. Tasos has grown the community that way so there is no point now complaining that the community has become self destructive. They are laying in the bed they have made... not anyone else... they are 100% responsible for the animosity in this community. Making excuses and deflecting blame only works on those already blind to the truth.

What cracks me up is that it's the *fans* that have been going on to other MMOs forums, evangelizing DF and telling everyone how it will be a "real PvP MMO", insulting the game whose forums they were posting in, and/or their players as being "carebears" if they couldn't handle a real PvP MMO like DF.

Barely a month ago, they were hooping and hollering and posturing about how DF was the most hyped MMO on mmorpg.com... when they felt it bode well for the game, of course.

Now that much of that "hype" has translated into well-deserved scrutiny (not the kind of attention they wanted),  now certain fans are complaining about the game being "over hyped".

Irony anyone?

Like I've said before, and someone else in this thread echoed in their post... I wouldn't have even known about DF for as long as I have, had I not seen posts hyping it on another MMO's forums... and then again on 2 or 3 other MMOs forums. My first (and 2nd and 3rd) impression of the game's community was them bashing other MMOs, propping up DF as a game for "real hardcore" players, not for carebears, etc. This all happened ~2 years ago.

In their mad rush to shove DF down everyone's throats, the fans have been doing more damage for this game's image than any troll ever could.

You reap what you sow.

They were hooping and hollering and posturing about how DF was the most hyped MMO on mmorpg.com... when they felt it bode well for the game, of course.

To the OP. The exposure of this game on MMORPG did not start with a release date. That includes the illusion to the December release, the "official" January release, or the upcoming February release. The influx of fans on MMORPG started several months before that in the form of hyping the game through the mmorpg.com system, and worse, by fans of Darkfall rating every upcoming game negatively to bump Darkfall up to the top of the list (where it stayed until December failed to produce a release). At this same time Darkfall fans spammed nearly every individual game forum on MMORPG to try to gain support for their game. They failed in a major way here, by manipulating the hype/ratings system, and spamming the forums, they placed the game under player scrutiny, and have yet to peak above the trench since.

Games that they de-hyped included the Chronicles of Spellborn, Jumpgate Evolution, and Aion, all of which appear to be meeting their production goals and promises, with plenty of industry oversight. Darkfall is shooting itself in the foot. The hype their fanbase created here started a sort of war I am not sure Aventurtine can win.

Hey, if they had left the SWG Debris forums alone, I wouldn't even be posting this, so great job guys.

Hmmm. Nice take on the situation. I'll have to give this a little more thought, and throw it into the mix.

I mean dang, they even went as far as to post in the LotRO official forums. Haven't looked into the other games official forums yet.

O.P.:

MMORPG.COM doing more harm than good? Sorry, can't say I think so. If anything, they have cut AV/DF some slack by staying unbiased.

Sorry, haven't seen the harassment from MMORPG.COM that you speak off.

This is as good as it can be said imo...

PS. Good color selection
