This is pure speculation.. If Funcom for some reason goes bankrupt, who do you think would buy Age of Conan? For example do you think Blizzard would buy it and use the engine to make some other, better MMO? And could the new owner legally shut down the servers? I'm asking because I'm worried about my toons because I spent a lot of time leveling them up. Discuss. |

Wait a couple more days, this guy seems to know the ins and outs of the company, im guessing he plays the game daily to know what he is talking about. |

I heard increasing Subscriber numbers make Gamedevelopers go backrupt! LOL, nice troll. Hey have a look on AoC in Xfire, up another +15% since last saturday (and let me remind you that last saturday also was after the merge) In fact AoC is on a 3 month high now, activity records every weekend. Just percistently climbing in popularity. Here you go: www.xfire.com/games/aoc/Age_of_Conan_Hyborian_Adventures/ |

Funcom is going to find it harder and harder to borrow money. Who knows if they will go under but they can't be doing well. I would imagine that someone would buy Age of Conan. |

Also I remember seing a thread on official forums where some players asked others to install Xfire so that it would seem like Age of Conan is becoming more popular. It's the same old trick Eve used. And besides Xfire numbers have nothing to do with possible bankrupcy of Funcom. If you want to look at numbers, why not look at stock numbers: uk.finance.yahoo.com/echarts If Funcom does not have enough money to pay their debt, it does not matter what the Xfire numbers are. |

Actually what OrionMan showed us only shows an activity increase in Xfire. For all we know this could be because of their 'lets all install Xfire to get better rating' -campaign. What I showed was Funcom stock numbers which is a completely different thing. Funcom stock has gone down from 54 to 3 in about six months. That is a HUGE decrease and looks like investor are still seeing Funcom as a bad investment. I mean would you invest your money on Funcom right now? Yeah, me neither. Like I said, Xfire numbers don't pay the bills. I just hope if they have to sell Age of Conan, the new owner doesn't shut down the servers. |

Not sure if you noticed, PecanNuts69, but the Funcom stocks appear to have been pretty stable over the last two months, even increasing slightly since Dec 8th. I have very little experience with the stock-market, but one would think that the stocks for companies that were a week or two from bankruptcy would have a downward-trend, not a stable/slightly upwards pointing trend? But as I said, I have little experience in that field, so it might be normal for all I know. *shrug* |

They wont go bankrupt any time soon at least. I say if things don't look up by this time next year, well, then that marks the end. Many people are posting that AoC has upwards of 300,000 subs. It's probably more like upwards of 200,000...250,000 at the most. This isn't bad since I heard that they were at 90,000 at one point. Haters wanna burry Funcom and AoC because it wasn't some MEGA success that a lot of people HOPED it was going to be. They will always hate and always say AoC and Funcom are dead because AoC will never be this ultra successful MMO. It will be a good MMO that never quite gets the respect it should because of Funcoms poor decision making from the start. AoC will probably top out at 500,000 subs at the most. THAT IS IF Funcom keeps their promises and fixes what STILL NEEDS TO BE FIXED. I enjoy the game, but it has a bad rep due to the many problems it had....but, I don't think Funcom will go bankrupt.....any time soon. PLAYING: NOTHING!!! WAITING FOR: Dust 514 |

Originally posted by OrionMan Ok everyone I don't think Funcom is going bankrupt, or failing, or going to die anytime soon.. this is not the reason for my post. I just want to say to all of the retards who post xfire numbers like they are 100% fact and hold water... you guys are IDIOTS. Xfire numbers are a joke.. every guild/clan I have ever been in, in every single game, never once used xfire for anything period. Any guild who is serious uses Ventrilo and/or Teamspeak to communicate via chat or mic. Whens the last time you saw a guild advertise they have daily xfire chats.. ever? Now whens the last time you saw a guild advertise they have a vent server? Point proven. I game with a group of about 30 friends from my school and just from a quick poll I ran by all of them which asked if they or any of their friends use xfire at all... I got 20+ "no ways", a couple "Fu*k off's", and 1 "sometimes." If you can give me one serious reason why xfire numbers are accurate at all... I will shut up. And checking that link you provided shows 1,353 people playing per day.... AoC has what.. 300k players at least? (Correct me on that one Avery I'm sure you know better than me)
And again people this is in no way a negative post towards AoC.. the fact that xfires numbers are so innacurate and AoC went up 15% still means there are litterally 1000's of people who xfire isn't counting that are playing AoC.

Funcom found investment capital when it was easy to find based on the promise of a blockbuster title. It expanded to 300 employees (they've fired about 1/4 of their employees now) but still, it is near impossible to keep 225 people employed gainfully if Age of Conan has 100,000 subscribers. Remember, AoC has to keep 3-4 other projects running along with itself. It ran about a 2 million dollar profit when it had 18 million in revenue...what's it going to do when it drops in half this next quarter? (those numbers are due in 3 weeks) The answer? They will cut back, and inevitably when you cut back game production slows and the chances of a rebound decrease. Indeed Funcom looks like they've turned a corner with AoC, but they had to. Compared to games with known populations, AoC was acting like a game with 50,000 subscriptions...not the 150,000+ it probably had. But no one is playing. Now XFire and other metrics show that they are acting more like a 100,000 player game...but seriously...a retention rate near 10% in 9 months with 900,000 in sales sucks REALLY BAD. People can say all they want about XFire and such, but the next quarterly results will tell the tale of where Funcom truly is.

The dishonesty toward their customers is one thing, but mis-reporting to stockholders / market regulatory agencies is probably what will end up burning this company to the ground. We'll have to see just how bad the Norwegian Government wants FC to stay in bussiness, I am sure if they were thoroughly investigated FC would be in really deep Poo. |
