From what I have read here at mmorpg, fan's and haters are making up stuff.

I posted yesterday that I think they got hit with a Downadup Virus. And it looks like they did and a few other things thrown in as well.

Reguardles, Its total BS that someone would do such a thing.

Lets all hope the DF forum site can get back up and running.

PS: someone tell AV to drop the NDA, there gonna have to sooner or later so it might as well be now.

Must say this is one of the best things i have heard so far.. not sure i like the way  they would control information .. but lets hope when the game is out they don't keep this up .. if the game has bugs i don't want to see closed forums or mods shutting down talks..

This is a game developed by men. they focus on the task at hand and dont give a shit what people think about it.

If this was developed by woman it would have a really nice web site with alot of information ,even how to bake cookies, but there would be no game.

Tasos dont whine about the problems they have because he is Sparta!

Seriously....if an internet based company can't resolve virus/internet issues in 4 days, how do they expect customers to pay them for their service?

This does not bode well for future business, regardless of the circumstances.

- if it resolved the name to an IP address then reported request timed out, it was completely unrelated.

- if it reported that it could not find the host, it was related.

It was not in any way related.

In any case, as others have mentioned Network Solutions does NOT host the darkfall forums, Leaseweb does. Incidentally they are a huge ISP with no reports of any DoS attacks on their network recently (http://noc.leaseweb.com).

You are 90% correct. Unfortunately, many on here do not understand networking and try to find any information however unrelated to justify Aventurine's actions. darkfallonline.com is registered with Network Solutions.

Here are the facts.

I tested server response times for all the servers involved several times (10 - 20) a day for the first 2 days of the outage. It is not hard and does not take a long time. I ran pings/traceroutes/foward and reverse DNS requests.

None of my tests came back having issues with forward resolution during that time. Each request had between 80 - 100ms response times. At no time during my testing was there any issues with the root servers when resolving (Network Solutions). Even if there were issues, that would not prevent connections via IP address. During the initial day of issues, there was severe packet loss directly to the servers (both when resolving and directly via IP). This issue was completely unrelated to the attack encountered by Network Solutions.

Furthermore, response from their DNS servers (IPs are on same subnets) never noticiably lagged, which should have happened at least on the initial day. If this was a DDOS attack (chances are it would have only lasted the first day) there should have been noticeably lag for all of these systems and there simply was not. This makes any DDOS attack highly unusual if you understand how they work and affect network infrastructure.

I can't tell you specifically what happened because I cannot check their network infrastructure directly, however I can tell you from what information was availible there were no issues with any forward resolution during the attack.

So you are saying that Aragon's taking two unrelated issues (DoS attacks and DFO forums being offline) and putting them together to come up with an incorrect conclusion? (that the first caused the 2nd?)

The short answer is yes. Specifically that the Network Solutions DDOS attacks are unrelated to any attacks that happened on Aventurines networks.
