Star Wars episode I-VI = FTW

Star Wars: The Clone Wars = EPIC FAIL

I know that the game hasn't reached beta yet and it's still in production, but they're not gonna make the game less cartoonish and that sucks. Don't know if i ever gonna get used to it.

Playing: DCUO and Darkfall
Played: Ultima Online, Age of Conan, Anarchy Online, Planetside, Dark age of Camelot, EQII, WoW, SWG, FFXI and alot more

It seems your standards are on the unrealistic side though, maybe? The style of the game may not be to your liking but neither do they appear like they need to be carbon dated. XD Online games must look good but they also have to perform very, very well or else you get Mr and Mrs Grumpy Pants who'll yell about it for a century.

In the end performance should always win at the detriment of ZOMFG graphics. Also you can have stylized graphics and amazing looks, Aion for one does not have completely realistic graphics but damn it looks awesome. Texturing is where it's at imo.

FFXI too has stylized art, and it has been one of the best looking games since what 2000? EQ can't say that much. Heck I'm not sure EQ2 ca even say it (Faydwer being the exception). Also if you have the lastest rig, well then you know that as the game ages and gets updates it will only look better and better on your machine. MMOs are not static things they change over time and that does include their graphics. Guild Wars comes to mind, I played that on my first computer I bought myself (weeee!) and it played just great, but then as the expansions came out and a few graphical upgrades later it woulnd't run so good anymore. The more shiny they put in the more I lagged. Now if the computer I bought hadn't been cheap I would not have had that problem and you sure won't.

How does not wanting cartoony looking graphics make my expectations unrealistic? They could simply make the game look exactly like KotOR(which any PC these days could run) and I would be happy.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

That defeats some of what you were saying on the last page, but sure that would be okay. Though honestly what's presented now is more advanced then Kotor was already, you just don't like how it is done. Doesn't make the quality any less subpar for an online game, but no one can argue with your personal preferences.

Making it exactly like Kotor is basically not even trying to have expectations. That's not what they are doing. While the graphics are not Crysis standards they are still pretty good. Reminds me of Tabula but with a Champions Online take on it. Heroism is the theme they are going for and so the style is going to reflect that. Look at comic books and what parts of the heroe's anatomy is exagerated. I think that's what they are going for.

It may not be to your liking but that does not mean the graphics are 'bad' per say. Or that they are being lazy, obviously they've put a lot of thought into which direction they wanted to go towards.

I’m not gonna argue about this anymore but people who have issues with certain aspect of TOR need to understand BioWare did not make the design desistions they have made to screw anyone one type of player over at all. I read an article a year or so ago about how they had done some pretty in-depth market research on systems, graphics ect, before they even started building this MMO. You have every right to voice your concerns, that’s fine, but don’t “expect “ them to change something this late in the game. If you can think of it, they most likely did as well. Keep in mind who is really behind the development of this game (plenty of ex-SWG devs)

Lucas Arts didn’t have to allow them a shot at this, and it almost didn’t happen. SOE was supposed to make the next SW MMO and even started work on it (I’ve seen the art), but that’s another story. Fans have been have been wanting an OR type MMO for years, we are getting that. There comes a point where you just gotta lighten up on your expectations and wait to play it, otherwise you may be disappointed you aren’t getting what you wanted, even though you are getting a lot. It may be a fun game, just go with the gflow, if you got questions, we can help you find answers if they exist

And ultimately, even though I'm not particularly thrilled about it, this is the direction LucasArts has decided to go with their new "movies".  The more kiddie, stylized tone of the recent movies, plus the most recent animated ones.

I hate to break this to some of the more diehard fans out there, but unless you were under the impression that Jawas, Ewoks and ambiguously gay robots were intended for mature audiences, Star Wars has always targeted the kiddie market. Forget not that long before Jar Jar, we had Kenner toys and the Christmas Special.

Richard Garriott aside, you may now clip that padawan rat tail you've been clinging to.

Hey wait! Does this mean I have to get rid of my collection of new and vintage SW Toys?

Anyways, I think the only part of SW lore that is for an adult audience is most of what you read in novels as EU lore, there is a reason GL doesn't recognize it as canon. This is UE, but it's being licensed to BioWare by LEC. I guess if anyone has a real problem with specifics of the game they should complain to LEC, they are the ones who approve it. I'm sure they had plenty of input.

So incest with your sister, killing, cut of hands, war etc was made for 10 years olds when it first came out?

The "new" Star Wars is more for kids...

Incest? Really? Getting kissed by your sister is now incest? I didn't think Sweden was that uptight.

As for the killing, dismemberments, war etc., um what movies showed more of that, the original trilogy or the "new" Star Wars? For that matter, and back on track with this thread's topic, which of the trilogies arguably had the better graphics?

P.S.: I saw Star Wars (back when it was simply called "Star Wars") when I was 8 years old. If could handle it, yeah, I think a 10 year old could too.

There is a deleted scene when they have sex in the death star... nah I give up. Ok maybe not incest... but close hehe.

But what George Lucas has done, much like the MMORPG industry has, is they have both abandoned the people they built themselves on in favor for a new audience, one far younger, and more powerful. Sure, we were kids when we fell in love with Star Wars originally, but we all grew up(well most of us). Instead of making the new movies aimed at the already existing fans, he aimed it at the kids of the new generation, which probably had a lot less interest in Star Wars, while leaving the existing fans somewhat dissapointed. Much like the MMORPG industry has left a lot of the original players in the dust for the more marketable younger users. I find the simularities interesting.

But which of the trilogies had the more sophisticated underlying narrative?

Honestly, do you think a 10 year old understood the premise behind Phantom Menace... or even the title itself? What about the tragic fall of Anakin? Isn't that a pretty heavy theme for a young audience?

Look, I'm not trying to argue that the prequels were better films. They weren't. The direction was flat, flat, flat. Some of the dialog and performances were horrible. But I don't think we can deny the story was more mature. Just look at the concept of sacrificing liberty in the pursuit of security... doesn't that ring familiar with current events, perhaps even a certain real-world administration we had at the time?

Yes, I do enjoy the underlying story of the pre-quels, and the possibilities they lead to. But I mean come on, Jar Jar? What a joke!

Whats happening to the world where people like this style of The shitty Clone Wars :( Wheres all the fans of the actual good original trilogy? Was the last good thing to come from Star Wars :(

News flash slick, people tend to like certain things and dislike others, this varies from one individual to the next.

False expecations often lead down the path to disappointment. Dissappointment leads to hate, hate leads to anger and anger is a path to the dark side.

Heh, couldn't resist. That sentence just sounded so Yoda'ish.

The models look stupid though. Made for kiddies..pfft.

I love the graphics of this game, and I love the artistic direction it's taking.

Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic

Waiting For: Guild Wars 2, sort of.

I mostly agree with the OP, with a few but's:

First, I dont think they spent much time with characters anyways. This is indicated by the fact that we see practically only the same two humans over and over, copy pasted, but while the world is advanced with shadows, movement asf the models may be in an early step. At least thats what I hope, heh.

Second, yeah I too hated the Clone Wars series due to the style, but watching the tv show these days I feel it grew on me and I kinda got used to it a bit.

Still, the characters need more... well, character in SWTOR, indeed.
