Thanks Grind. I am really enjoying the Warden class because of the combos and tactics needed. I find myself judging whether or not to go all out DPS or use more defensive combos. It does make me wonder whether or not it should be used as a main stream combat engine in the game. So far today I hit level 9. I really like deeds, epic quests and titles. Something I do miss in AoC. Sure the combat isn't as in-depth and I did find myself missing the limb chopping in AoC but LotR's really does what it set out to do really well and that is lore and old school RPG. I have to say I found it hard at the start not knowing where to go for quests then I found myself reading the text to work out the location. OLD SCHOOL! Its funny how I found myself missing it so much. Its nice to have that touch back again. People I met have been pretty nice also. Grouped up with a couple of guys and overall the community seemed pretty mature. I am surprised about the graphics also. I thought it would be outdated but personally I would rank it behind AoC. Characters at low levels still looked nice and different enough. I am running the game on ultra settings and so far only a couple of tiny spikes. So overall pretty happy and glad I have subscribed. I still have AoC for my PvP bloody fix but LotR's is definitely going to fill my old school RPG needs. I have to say I did laugh at myself today when I jumped at seeing another player behind me. I have to keep reminding myself not everyone can or is there to chop my freaking head off!! In fact a few times they jumped in to save my skin! Looking forward to leveling more tomorrow.
That is a good mix, AoC for PvP and LoTRO for the PvE. Be sure to give the MPvP a shot though, It may or may not be your cup of tea but it is worth taking a look at to find out for yourself. here is a guide to get you off on the right foot |

I got MoM the other day. From a fresh install of a UK launch version of the original game with no patching done what so ever I then installed MoM. After that there was 1700 files to patch which took about 15 minutes and I was good to go....
This was 2 days ago. I havnt had chance to properly start playing the game yet but i've jumped in for a few minutes. Like the new trait improvements. |

Don't worry, we have nice and populated servers too :-) (Considering the Lore-Worldquest before MoM I would even guess that we have bigger servers than you - at least in Germany :P )
We also got Belegaer Lobo. German RP-Server and first to complete the lore-quest. So no, Laurelin is neither the only official RP server nor the biggest one. :-) We aren't going to be allowing RMT in any way, shape or form on the non-exchange enabled EQ II servers. Period. End of statement. John Smedley |

Lets judge this by how many people can be found roleplaying in "Prancing Pony Inn" at any time of the day apologies to the OP for the derail Ok it is not a every day event but several times I have seen impromptu concerts on Silverlode. Most times in the square outside the Pony, sometimes under the Party Tree, even once in the Bree Auction hall. Anyway back to the OP, I am curious as to whether you have tried the MPvP yet as a "bad guy" and if so what did you think of it. I know it is not full on PvP but I think it is a nice side game of sorts. |

I had a good session today on the game and I can see some of the key attractors in it now. I got involved in crafting today and it is in-depth enough to make it interesting but not too cumbersome. I even made myself 2 pieces of armour today that were better than drops and I am still only level 12. A key issue I have with AoC crafting system is that almost everything you make is 2nd or 3rd best after drops or solo missions. Another plus for me is that you need to craft on a bench or workstation. This increases the immersion of the game and realism. Plus I love seeing people crafting in the same hall. Grouping doesn't seem to be that hard either, people have been open to group up and the LFF channel is used a lot. Overall I see people everywhere so for a game that has been out for a long time this is a good sign! Ok so a lot of missions are still grind but they are reasonable and they have made an effort to incorporate that into a storyline. Plus as I stated recently I am surprised at how they don't have a big cross marking the missions. I have found myself more involved and really studying the map and locations. Leveling is a lot slower than AoC. e.g. in 2 days of on and off gameplay I can hit level 20-25 in AoC. I have played LotR a lot in 2 days and just hit level 12 now. Don't care either way but I guess it evens out because AoC has level 80 as max. The difference in LotR is that you don't notice it as much. Deeds, Traits and all those little goals you can hit, satisfy that leveling fix. I know this may sound silly but the biggest plus for me is the inventory space!! Why do companies insist on giving players a bag with 8-12 slots and then make 1000 items needed for crafting. Its frustrating and pointless. Vanguard has a crafting bag and EVE has unlimited space and its a relief. I hate spending most of my time sorting items and having issues with space. I know that LotR will be crowded but they help by giving enough space. So pretty happy overall :) Combat is getting better with the new combos. However my biggest issue is the 1 vs 1 combat. I got used to taking on 3-4 critters at the same time and having splash damage on nearby attackers. So its hard to go back to attacking one at a time. The other features counter this however. Going to try out monster play soon!! Personally I think this is the best idea in an MMO and one I would love to see implemented on a large scale. Imagine if you were allowed 2 hours a day to jump into an NPC and be part of the mobs fighting players trying to do their missions? It would make a dynamic environment and some fun banter.

Originally posted by chryses Please don't take this as a put down of AoC because that is not what I mean by this but. In LoTRO the combat is a bit more tactical. I can take on 2 or 3 creatures of equal level pretty easily but I have to think about those fights a bit more and if I hose up and hesitate or zig instead of zag I am a dead cookie. If I attempt to fight them the same as I fight a single mob I will get my ass handed to me on a platter. With my Minstrel I will use fear and drop out of Warspeech as soon as my healt gets below a certain level when I get adds, With my LM I use the stuns and roots and make damn sure I don't break them with a AOE attack. With my Burglar I use his stuns and dazes. Different classes also have other skils which help, it's not always about just run in and attack with LoTRO. Last night with my Minstrel I was using a skill called Song of Distraction to sneak by a pair of 10K elites so I could snag a quest item and it worked. Don't buy what the trolls say, combat in LoTRO is pretty damn challenging unless you fight one greenie at a time LOL. Don't sweat it you will get the hang of it and I really can't give more advice than that cause you Warden is higher than mine and I wil be asking you for tips when I get around to leveling him.
