Things are slowly becoming apparent, in my opinion. Slightly off topic, but a review from a professional journo or members of the press would be ideal and help kill the speculation. The only beta reviews officially made public are minimal and the "regular" updates from The Noob Comic I'm taking with a pince of salt due to the fact the owner is "friends" with Tasos Flamingo. So close infact, that Tasos has kindly allowed The Comic to host it's domain name on Aventurines server, how sweet! http://www.whois.net/whois_new.cgi?d=thenoobcomic&tld=com |

Most places you pre-order from do not take the money til the game ships.
Now with that said just chill out and wait and see what happens if you dont like how things are turning out then dont pre-order and move on to the next game you feel like ranting about failing. Fixed not a open beta but a trial sorry Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind. |

Quote from wikipedia: Developers release either a closed beta or an open beta; closed beta versions are released to a select group of individuals for a user test, while open betas are to a larger community group, usually the general public. The testers report any bugs that they found and sometimes minor features they would like to see in the final version. A Public open beta would be open för everyone. Open beta doesnt neccesarily have to mean its open for everyone. My personal category for a Open beta is that the testers arent choosen in any way. Putting a limit on how many testers they want isnt choosing who they want, just how many they can handle. Ofcourse if the limit is like 10 ppl i wouldnt argue you hehe, but i hope you get my point.

We don't know if there will be an Open Beta OR a Public Beta by what he's said.
He said: "Starting on January 22nd there will be a Darkfall trial with the distribution of the release candidate client allowing thousands of players to sample the game for free, help us stress test our servers and test the final features of the game."
So for a couple thousand people they may get an "Open" Beta... we still don't know if they will have to sign an NDA or not at this point.
No mention of the words OPEN or PUBLIC Beta... or even the word Beta for that matter.

DnL ran a small client under a different name for several months before release to my knowledge. People just expected the DnL client to be much much better based on Dev posts. I am so glad I didn't fall for that one. Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom. Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR. |

Didn't he say something about a open beta prior to the 22nd launch? Now there is a pre-order planned...It's just not looking good for them. At least AoC and WAR offered open betas. Actually, I can't comment on AoC's open beta, but I certainly played WAR's, and I am greatful to them for allowing me to do so, the only thing I lost was bandwidth. I didn't like the game, but I certainly didn't flame it. They gave me a chance to decide whether I wanted to play it long term or not, and I decided not. I'm not preordering this game without trial or before drop of NDA though... which is fine |

No, he said there would be an Open Beta before Launch. Which he just announced has been delayed so they could fit Open Beta. The pre-order is only available 3 weeks after Open Beta starts, long after we will have heard all about DF and argued in a billion directions about it. All of the people pretending we won't get to actually try DF before pre-orders begin is putting on a farce for the sake of flaming/drama. |

I think most say that Closed (choosen testers, NDAs, limited numbers etc) Open (no NDAs, no choosen testers, etc) Public (Anyone, no limits)
Many probably call public beta a open beta also... Most descriptions of Open beta in places like Wikipedia and such states that its large scale, often open to a community and so on. I checked around abit, so i wouldnt be making a totaly fool out of myself for making this post FagerCraft - Feeding the trolls on mmorpg.com since 2005. |
