Free trial or open beta, it's "try before your buy" any way you look at it, and I doubt it will be the release client version players will be "trialling" on the 22nd.

If it looks like open beta, smells like open beta, and feels like open beta, then it's probably open beta. Tasos can spin however he likes; we all know he's called it a "free trial" because their servers won't be able to accommodate every beta hopeful. If they could, do you think they'd still call it a "free trial"?

Well I did predict that they only had the capacity to support 10-40k users... that should be worth something.

But in all seriousness, if that's the case, and if Aventurine aren't inflating their own numbers, then there are going to be approximately 260,000 disappointed fanatics come the 22nd, or heck, the 25th of February.

Do you think a month is long enough for Aventurine to scrounge enough resources to establish another server or two? They've kind of already dropped the ball with their publishing efforts.

This delay was a blessing in disguise.  Now we have basically an open beta!   This was something I needed to have if I was going to purchase the game in the beginning.  With all the road bumps I would not be comfortable paying for a game that I did not get to sample.

Well, let me tell you how I reached this conclusion. I was recently linked to a certain site, that is like a carton of milk with holes in it, (:P), and read up on some of the stuff that we shouldn't know about, and noticed quite a few people mentioning that they were banned from a certain games closed beta, but not indefinately, but only until 1/17/2009, for putting said holes into that milk carton. Which led me to wonder, why would they not just ban them indefinately, the only conceivable reason to let them be unbanned for the 17th would be if....
That is when they are opening the closed beta, into the open beta....

Or at least thats what I am led to believe, assuming that those reports are factual.

            it doesnt sound like an open beta in the sense that most of us are used to......From what I gather they are just going to allow a portion of those that already applied for beta into it......Its not like you and I could go register today and get a spot (though there may be a slight chance)........Also tehre was some suspicious stuff abotu pre ordering and crap like that and it sounded like if you preordered you might in also.......To me an open beta means "come register with us and you will get in.......It sitll sounds like Aventurien is overmatched and tasos even made comments that they were having problems handling the amount of beta testers already trying to get in (a whopping 200k oooooooo)...........This game just comes across as a bush league game from a bush league company.......If this game was being handled by a blizzard or Mythic or Turbine then we would have alot more faith in it.......Aventurine jsut strikes alot of us as a total joke and very amateur.
