Originally posted by Razimus No its fine as it is. I have no problem with the proposed content of the game and how its implemented. The only problem is there should have been no NDA, The game should have been open for all to see from Alpha to Beta to Live. Sure they would have been flamed at each step but as they improved the game in an open setting they would have gotten some form respect and praise in the end. And the gamers would have known what they where vested in. Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries... |

We will see a change in this if the game does come out because money talks and bs walks so the first time a person logs and returns to find out his/her house is gone we will see the domino effect in complain/quit. How hard is it to copy old UO? but instead we get companies that want to be ground breaking and fail miserably. I don't think we will have to worry about this anyways on the 22nd ...

sounds pretty carebear to me tbqh. and if it's only guilds and their cities, and NOT private housing off on its own someplace -- then it's a watered down version of pos warfare tyvm.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

Considering that the Feature you are talking about has not been tested, and is not implemented... it will most likely not even be in the game come Release. If it makes it into the game 3 months from Release I'd be surprised.
So, you will probably lose this argument by default... considering what you think will destroy the game... probably won't even be IN the game in the first place. |

True, large POS's with many defenses are usually a corp effort, as are player owned bases in 0.0, but I wanted to set the record straight that players in EVE do sometimes own their own stations. As for destroyable housing being a major mistake, I can think of a few others Aventurine is making that are higher on the list and more likely to impact the success or failure of the game.

You guys need to realize something, this game is for a whole seperate community of MMO gamers. I'm talking about people who WANT the thrill against losing it all, and gaining a lot from other players, rather than all these other games that make sure you keep all your loot. I would assume that Aventurine knows that they will not have such a large playerbase due to the significant differences between Darkfall and other MMOs. “Wakka wakka wakka” - Pac-Man |

Hum... Destroyable player houses aren't going to break this game precisely because player houses are just pixels. The full PvP / sandbox crowd has nothing against loosing pixels, be them loot or houses. In a true sandbox player constructions are logically just ... sand castles. There are a thousand things aventurine has done or may do that can be "major mistakes" and make dfo lose its public (or just fail at release, if the game is to be released one day). Full open loot / full pvp / destroyable houses / killable mounts etc... are not in the list. They are base features of the game and define which kind of gamer may be interested (and actually the UO pre-trammel / SB / EVE crowds and other tough guys not worried about pixels loss are a public more than sufficient to make DFO a niche success)

If housing wasn't destroyable there woudn't be any sense of accomplishment in having, and keeping/defending it. Frankly, I don't want to see houses all over the place because any 10 year old who can farm can get enough money and buy one. This isn't WoW where if you die you just run back to your body. Sick of people who haven't ever played a game like EVE, where you can actually lose months of work, complaining about a 5 gold repair bill. |

Any way you slice it, looks like I was right, they fudged what their engine was capable of, they and their fans boasted the next UO, not only is it not the next UO, but it's not even close, when will a company copy UO? that's what I want to know, they all are copying something, and their copying the wrong thing, I can see a whole new crop of WoW clones, a clone of a clone of a xerox of a xerox of a clone of a clone, WoW sucks, so assume I've ever been a wow fan and you'd be wrong, I would like to see the following impossible currently maybe in 10 years it won't be impossible but considering it's my preferences, what I look for in an mmorpg and have yet to see, I consider it currently impossible, apparently I have impossible standards but this is what I will be looking for... NPCs that have daily schedules, they work in the day, they go to sleep at night in their individual NPC houses and sleep in their beds (yes very Black Gate/Serpent Isle). A housing system, rentable, purchasable, strict one per account, houses are not destroyable, they are decayable but you can purchase in game with gold to have your house maintained by a housekeeper npc for up to 6 months, I've been guilty of forgetting about a game for 1 month but anyone who forgets up to 6 months deserves to have it fall, housing should only be for the rich players, the houses are *NOT* instanced, seriously whats the point of a house if only you can see it, a house cannot play a role in the enviornment of the game if it is instanced, if you don't know what instanced means please don't bother reading further. Automated quests, the exact opposite of wow-style automated quests, if you enjoy doing the same quest over 1,000 times you are retarded, this is my opinion, I personally can think of 1,000 different, unique quests, I'm not gonna list them out, want to hear them? hire me to work for your bigshot game company, some quests should be enviornmental while some should be personal per player while some should be NPC automated, but there need to be quests that challenge the gamer, mazes, complicated puzzles, translating languages, and not having these things done by themself, quests that force the mindless to think and if they can't think they fail, these quests I have yet to see in any mmorpg to date. Complex crafting system, many crafting classes and countless, hundreds of thousands of items, some useful, some useless. Clothing and avatar customization, clothing should be endless in color and combinations if it's not you will end up with WoW, everyone looks like the clone they are, players should have the choice of making their characters fat, skinny, tall, short, old, young, on and on, most games today have everyone at the same age, height and weight, maybe I want to be a short fat guy, since the choice doesn't exist in most mmorpgs everyone ends up looking the same. Complex magic system, different magic classes, etc etc, I've already typed too much, but this is just an example of what I'm looking for, if any game even has a majority of these things I would be interested in buying it. I would make this game myself if I were rich but I'm not, I know if this game existed it would blow every mmorpg out of the water. --- Razimus |

You make some good points, but they have nothing to do with your original post, at all. So, good on you for last post, but erm, "I can see the future" in your original post, well, that's just laughable. |
