Any new or returning player to WOW, send me a PM for some help getting started. |
There is nothing anywhere indicating the game will be launching on the 22nd. No beta notice, no client availability, no system specs, no server information, no pricing information. The only information AT all we have about the game being released is the actual date. No information after that. I'm beginning to wonder if the 22nd was only announced because of the investor meetings. It is probably much easier to ask for money for a game that is 'gold' and only needs help with marketing and distribution, rather than asking for money for a game that is a year away from launch. It seems to me, the only indication of the 22nd launch was that it was used so much with the investor meetings. If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Sounds like a plan for me, pretend to develop a game for years, get you a team 30 people for that over time and at some point March / April say we will release within end of year ... Then the big moment comes december you make announcement you will release 22 days later then you planned to get the open coffee meeting invite ...to finally get the needed money for release your game ... Sounds like a plan ... OP if you think Aventurine are the pigs you believe they are why you visit their forum and pretend to show interest for their game ? IT would make more sense if you absent these board.. -----MY-TERMS-OF-USE-------------------------------------------------- "There was suppression of speech and all kinds of things between disturbing and fascistic." But seriously.. has the dev team showed any signs at all that the Jan 22nd date is legit except for the investors meeting? NOTHING It has nothing to do with money.. they could post on forums, they could update their website.. they could do a lot more for the 'launch' that costs no money. lol, i guess you dont realise what Open Coffee is all about?? :)
http://localglobe.blogspot.com/2007/02/opencoffee-club.html Athenes is not so big city, and every event related to internet/technology hosted there is a chance for Aventurine to promote DFO and their engine in Greece. Look at the questions asked form the audience and you will realise that most of the people there didnt know what MMO is. So... If AV need money they are not going to look for them in a Open Coffee session... think for this as a free and alternative publicity.

I don't think Aventurine is a single little company on it's own, if you do some research it indicates it's part of a group of interconnected privately owned companies. For all you know they could have been invited to give a talk about small enterprises, I don't think they would have let them set up their equipment otherwise. Considering they have been getting a fair amount of publicity in Greece I think it's probably more likely. The same people who are proposing that they were looking for finance were 6 months ago claiming that their office was in fact a car lot and attempting to prove with satalite images, I can't believe people are still listening to them. In short op is an idiot for believing this stuff. |

Here's the report from the opencoffee event on he was doing: "Following A. Doxiadis’ talk Tasos Flambouras VP of the Darkfall MMORPG spoke about another much expected arrival - if we are to judge by the huge inflow of traffic from the game’s forum. So, this is for you too people. Darkfall is where all heads are turned towards especially now that big names like Warhammer Online and Age of Conan have launched:a 30-programmers’ project 6 years in the making born from a collaboration with a Norwegian company with Germany based servers that even managed to invert some of the brain drain and return Greek professionals back home in order to create a game that started from the premise of fulfilling users’ needs, working backwards and offering what existing games didn’t. So far about 300,000 people have been beta-testing it and 10.000 simultaneous users can play over each one of the hundreds of servers. Darkfall has secured collaboration for publishing in Europe with audiovisual.gr (I’m very curious to see how well that company will do their job on the scale that’s anticipated). The price to play will be along the usual lines (10-11 euros/month) and Darkfall will be available in 22/01 both in Europe and the US. It’s important to mention that they’re not going head to head against giants like World of Warcraft - instead their niche seems to be players that appreciate non-linearity and freedom of actions (for example that could mean WoW users that want to be able to do their thing and are constrained by that game’s mechanics). Darkfall was very lucky to not only be able to find sponsors when they were beginning but also to be able to pick and choose who would fund them. Due to its size (and age) comparisons with current Greek startups are difficult but nonetheless a company we hope becomes a showcase for what Greek talent can achieve." So basically it says nothing about seeking additional fundung ands sounds very much like they were there to give a talk to small businesses. Keep on listening to Polarisation, Arken ect suckers. |

This is a possibility, announce a new release date for the game to make your company more attractive to investors, could be a last ditch desperate measure. One thing the supporters can't credibly deny, Tasos was caught pitching Dakrfall to a group of investors in Athens whilst being silent to his community for weeks, and its nearly a week left till release, 22nd still looks like an empty promise to me. One could consider a similar thing happened last year as well. Perhaps Aventurine only announced an official company commitment to launch within 2008 so they could make deals or partnerships with GNi and AVE. Will be interesting to see what happens if they miss the 22nd date. If they don't have any money left and can't delay the game any longer then all those promises about only announcing a release date when they have a finished feature complete fully tested game look worthless. I would say Tasos's often repeated assurances that he hopes we will all get a chance to try Darkfall before we buy it look increasingly unlikely. At this stage it would be financial suicide for Aventurine to let people try the game before paying for it in my opinion. |

They don't sound like they were there to raise money. It the people watching the talks who are looking for advice / funds. |

In some respects MMORPG development is like making a movie. It's never finished in the eyes of the developers, or in the eyes of a director. There's always just one more thing that could be done to make it a bit better. But in the end, whether it's an MMORPG, or a movie, at some point you have to go, that's it, that's all we have in the budget, this what we're going to release. Even Lucas wanted to go back and add scenes to Star Wars he wasn't able to include the first time around. It's not necessarily a bad thing to run out of development money, and have to release. It CAN be a bad thing if the game isnt' finished, but that's not always the case. And with MMORPGs, they're never finished, because you can always patch them and update them. So they dont' have to be compltely finished, just finished enough so that it is a fun game. And that's the bottom line. Is Darkfall finished enough, so that it is a fun game? Nobody knows till the NDA drops and we get some credible reviews. That should be the most troubling. The NDA still up, and only a week to release? Isn't that a bit unusual? |

I haven't seen anything saying that they are looking for investment. Just a translation from greek saying a meeting for investors. Generally people investing in something like to get meetings about the progress of what they've invested in. I am not saying I don't think they are looking for investors, just that everyone is building meaning on small facts. Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls. |

Lets face it Aventuire has been doing well living off of the goverment grants from Greece for the last several years, now evidently even they want some results, so now Tasos is saying how terrible Greece is for technology and MMO developement ( as reported at least once in the open coffee) exactly how did we get from Tasos pormises that the games totally complete and could release today (which was what the 5th or 6th of December) to it needing more investors?
