Plus I have no idea where did you get from that idea that the adv on mmorpg.com is free? Can you explain how did you mean that? |

COME ON PEOPLE USE YOUR COLLECTIVE HEAD.
You should use it then too. It costs a lot of money to get a space in every major gaming magazine and website around the world. It costs money to put on banners on websites, get on touch with a good distribution company etc. This game costed less than the marketing/adv budget of games like WAR, AoC, or WoW. Officially announced was 20$ mil for the development cost of Darkfall which is definetly less than 40$mil adv/marketing cost of WoW. Interviews, fan kits, live demonstrations, youtube and MMO video posts, are free... Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom. Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR. |

Aventurine have given people every opportunity to see Darkfall for themselves, they even invite anyone interested to visit their offices when ever they can spare the time, and give beta access to journalists and websites. I agree, what the mainstream gamming press should really be doing at the moment, is covering all the allready available information about the amazing and revolutionary features that have been demonstrated by Darkfall, that will help save Aventurine even more time to work on the game. Darkfall is the most highly anticipated MMO at the moment, its scandalous that it is not getting the media attention it deserves despite Aventurines best efforts to be as open and honest about their game as possible. |

Its simple and directly related to the amount of money a company spends on advertisment. I believe they didnt get as much from EU fonds nor government for that purpose. If Tasos said in one of the interviews that they spent 20$ mil on the development (which is a joke sum in compare to major releases) you can't be surprised it doesn't have enough attention. Noone was paying attention to EVE online before release either, and still it growed. Darkfall can go the same way if its good (just the progress of customers will rise up faster than before due to larger consumer;s base). |

1) Darkfall is releasing as a European server cluster on the 22nd, it is not releasing to North America yet. I was surprised to learn that the Chronicles of Spellborn had already released in Europe, as I had heard nothing about it, even frequenting mmorpg.com. Its release, and Darkfall's, has and will be apparently fairly low key, if they actually happen. Not necessarily a bad sign. 2) The developers of Darkfall would, obviously, be quite busy if they were actually planning to make an MMO available to a fairly wide audience within the coming week(s). Mmorpg.com has published an "interview" with Tasos recently. I don't know why anyone would expect a continuous information stream. To appease a bunch of forum fanboys posing as haters in an attempt to emotionally blackmail the Aventurine development team? 3) No one has taken my money yet. I'm not going to be giving it to any more MMOs until I have a fairly strong confidence in their product. "Mainstream" advertised products for which I have literally paid hundreds of dollars have been collosal failures at delivering true entertainment and have introduced hours upon hours of stress and aggravation into my life (and, yes, I am partially at blame for this). Until someone does take my money, I'm not going to get all aggravated at a company for plugging their product, but not doing it enough or in a way that satisfies my particular curiosity. And my personal opinion is that I have a better idea of what Darkfall is supposed to be, gotten through online information, than I have about the other games I've actually already paid for and played. I have more Darkfall videos on my hard disk than DDO, LotRO, Vanguard, AoC, Warhammer, and WoW combined. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. |

If you want someone to write about your game this close to launch, you give them access to it. If you want a site to post information about your staff (developers), you grant them interviews. As far as i can tell, The coverage of Darkfall exactly equals the access they have provided. Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom. EvE is a non-mainstream game, they tout over 250K subscriptions. Someone should also let him know he mis-read the comment he quoted from Darkfall's devs. Boy I can't wait to get my PhD in Science. I am almost done with my current PhD in Reading.

What i have been able to absorb from this thread is, there is a faction that believes Darkfall isnt ready to launch and a faction that believes it is ready to launch but doesnt care if it has subscribers or not (because its not about being mainstream) so therefore is keeping the launch as quiet as possible? |

I think I know what the problem was. You needed to mention that you were with a "professional gaming media".... then you would have gotten the access you were seeking.
"We'll do the same for any professional gaming media that's interested in coming here to get hands-on experience of the game. We will allow media wider access to the beta soon enough, but for now this can only happen on site." forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php
I'm wondering when the media will be getting that "wider access to the beta" that was stated to be soon. Heh... they should put that on the Box! "Aventurine... giving new meaning to the word Soon since 2003!" |

Geee i'm sorry i had no idea i had to be some sort of "professional" in order to go down there and ask some questions about a product (hell i would be so bold as to say even see it ) that the company will be asking me (and when i say "me" i refer to "me" as nothing more than a part of the consumers base out there) to buy upon it's release, that is only a few days away btw !!! Or aren't my money good enough????

Not enough time contact anyone beforehand when only a couple of hours are between you catching or missing your flight!!!Besides, i wasn't visiting a friend .I thought that i was visiting "a professional software company" and whilst i don't expect a friend to hand me leaflet when i make a surprise visit to him, (e.x. sorry ol friend i'm busy atm here's a leaflet of my current activities and what i was up to all this time that should fill ya in), i do expect that AT LEAST from "a professional software company" 3rd. I stated it before that when Darkfall releases (whenever that might be) i'm not even bothering to spend a cent on it until after a good 6 months have passed just to make sure i avoid the worst. At this point i'm sticking by it and to add insult to injury they managed to earn my contempt as far as their PR skills are concerned .I don't care even if they make researches to find a cure for cancer in there, being unable to provide even the very basics to person that did bother to get all the way down to their offices is simply inexcusable if they want to call themselves "professionals" as far as i'm concerned..... This can't be true..If Aventurine claims to have done this then I think they are lieing..Sorry.. There is simply no reason why any gaming magazines small/large or gaming sites would refuse to make a cover story of Darkfall unless they thought the company was criminals or worse..Maybe they are ? I do not believe for second that Aventurine has made any invitations what so ever, else this game would be covered..Atleast by far more than the current situation.. Sure even the gaming press has to wade true piles of material at times and simply can't cover every game out there, and Darkfall may simply be considered a loose end by the press, and just a waste to even cover.. No Aventurine has a tight lid on this game, for whatever reason that is..:) /junker |
