Plus I have no idea where did you get from that idea that the adv on mmorpg.com is free? Can you explain how did you mean that?

With that said, there's only one of two reasons why MMORPG.com hasn't had the interview time with Aventurine as compared to other developers:

You are assuming that all MMO companies want to achieve maximum mainstream commercial success. It's obvious that Aventurine have never had this as their main priority, otherwise they would never have tried to create a non-mainstream game like DF in the first place.

Tasos has even openly said they do not want WOW's playerbase.

HOW THE FREAK DOES THAT EVEN MAKE SENSE????????????????????????????

ARE YOU RETARDED?  WE, ADVENTURINE, IN ORDER TO REACH THE MORE INTELLIGENT, PIPE SMOKING, PHILOSOPHICALLY ENGAGED, CURRENT EVENTS CONVERSATIONALISTS, HAVE DECIDED TO, YUP YOU GUESSED, NOT USE FREE ADVERTISING TO REACH OUR TARGETTED AUDIENCE.

GOOD GREIF IT TAKES A TRUE IMBECILE TO THINK THIS WAY.  WE DON'T WANNA REACH ANYONE BUT YUPPIES SO WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FREE ADVERTISING VIA WEBSITES LIKE MMORPG.COM  WE'D PREFER TO ADVERTISE IN 'GOLF MAGAZINE' AND 'FORBES 500'.

COME ON PEOPLE USE YOUR COLLECTIVE HEAD.

You should use it then too.

It costs a lot of money to get a space in every major gaming magazine and website around the world. It costs money to put on banners on websites, get on touch with a good distribution company etc. This game costed less than the marketing/adv budget of games like WAR, AoC, or WoW. Officially announced was 20$ mil for the development cost of Darkfall which is definetly less than 40$mil adv/marketing cost of WoW.

Interviews, fan kits, live demonstrations, youtube  and MMO video posts, are free...

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

Exactly its not Aventurines fault the mainstream gamming press are not covering Darkfall, we should all really be criticizing the corrupt and unreliable gaming magazines and websites who are obviously refusing to give Darkfall the fair and honest coverage it deserves.

Aventurine have given people every opportunity to see Darkfall for themselves, they even invite anyone interested to visit their offices when ever they can spare the time, and give beta access to journalists and websites.

I agree, what the mainstream gamming press should really be doing at the moment, is covering all the allready available information about the amazing and revolutionary features that have been demonstrated by Darkfall, that will help save Aventurine even more time to work on the game.

Darkfall is the most highly anticipated MMO at the moment, its scandalous that it is not getting the media attention it deserves despite Aventurines best efforts to be as open and honest about their game as possible.

Its simple and directly related to the amount of money a company spends on advertisment. I believe they didnt get as much from EU fonds nor government for that purpose. If Tasos said in one of the interviews that they spent 20$ mil on the development (which is a joke sum in compare to major releases) you can't be surprised it doesn't have enough attention.

Noone was paying attention to EVE online before release either, and still it growed. Darkfall can go the same way if its good (just the progress of customers will rise up faster than before due to larger consumer;s base).

The market is competitive enough that most would prefer not to look silly I would think.

Plus as stated by a former staff member of MMORPG above, Aventurtin has not responded or flat out denied requests. So, there is nothing to write about.

It's because they are sat in their chairs with their feet up on their desks eating donuts waiting for the next EA press briefing (free video ipod included) to be placed on their lap. If you think gaming media doesn't work like this you better get new world view.

1) Darkfall is releasing as a European server cluster on the 22nd, it is not releasing to North America yet.  I was surprised to learn that the Chronicles of Spellborn had already released in Europe, as I had heard nothing about it, even frequenting mmorpg.com.  Its release, and Darkfall's, has and will be apparently fairly low key, if they actually happen.  Not necessarily a bad sign.

2) The developers of Darkfall would, obviously, be quite busy if they were actually planning to make an MMO available to a fairly wide audience within the coming week(s).  Mmorpg.com has published an "interview" with Tasos recently.  I don't know why anyone would expect a continuous information stream.  To appease a bunch of forum fanboys posing as haters in an attempt to emotionally blackmail the Aventurine development team?

3) No one has taken my money yet.  I'm not going to be giving it to any more MMOs until I have a fairly strong confidence in their product.  "Mainstream" advertised products for which I have literally paid hundreds of dollars have been collosal failures at delivering true entertainment and have introduced hours upon hours of stress and aggravation into my life (and, yes, I am partially at blame for this).

Until someone does take my money, I'm not going to get all aggravated at a company for plugging their product, but not doing it enough or in a way that satisfies my particular curiosity.  And my personal opinion is that I have a better idea of what Darkfall is supposed to be, gotten through online information, than I have about the other games I've actually already paid for and played.

I have more Darkfall videos on my hard disk than DDO, LotRO, Vanguard, AoC, Warhammer, and WoW combined.  And no, I'm not being sarcastic.

Ummm. No. When it comes to Darkfall, it is because they have nothing to play. If you want someone to write about your game this close to launch, you give them access to it. If you want a site to post information about your staff (developers), you grant them interviews. As far as i can tell, The coverage of Darkfall exactly equals the access they have provided.

I think I have around 3067K worth of email offering to allow me to purchase a Master's or Ph.D. in any field. Perhaps he bought one? As for his statement that razor/avent intended to make a non-mainstream game, that is fine, but at no point did they ever state that they didn't even want subscribers. EvE is a non-mainstream game, they tout over 250K subscriptions.

Someone should also let him know he mis-read the comment he quoted from Darkfall's devs.

Boy I can't wait to get my PhD in Science.  I am almost done with my current PhD in Reading.

What i have been able to absorb from this thread is, there is a faction that believes Darkfall isnt ready to launch  and a faction that believes it is ready to launch but doesnt care if it has subscribers or not (because its not about being mainstream) so therefore is keeping the launch as quiet as possible?

I think I know what the problem was.  You needed to mention that you were with a "professional gaming media".... then you would have gotten the access you were seeking.

I'm wondering when the media will be getting that "wider access to the beta" that was stated to be soon.  Heh... they should put that on the Box!

Geee i'm sorry i had no idea i had to be some sort of "professional" in order to go down there and ask some questions about a product (hell i would be so bold as to say even see it ) that the company will be asking me (and when i say "me" i refer to "me" as  nothing more than a part of the consumers base out there) to buy upon it's release, that is only a few days away btw !!! Or aren't my money good enough????

And Brad McQuaid BELIEVED VG was the new messiah of the MMORPG community. Just before he flopped, sold out and made it off with the swag!

That's why they have consistently demonstrated the game comprehensively on many occasions during its development, even more so over previous months leading up to release.

Are you serious? Every video of DF is edited from the same 2 crappy vids that've been out for a year. Demonstraded it comprehensively? Link or it didn't happen!

I defy anyone to name a single MMO that had more information, screen shots, videos and developer updates released then Darkfall has this close to launch.

Every MMO released since Everquest. Aventurine haven't even released system specs or a purchase price yet and it's only 10 days to go!

You have to appreciate that Aventurine also have to protect their revolutionary next generation secrets from competitors, and they are also respecting the expressed wishes from the majority of their players base to not reveal everything about the game pre release and spoil the excitement of discovering things.

OK this is sarcasm right?

Tasos has constantly reminded us that the game is feature complete, fully tested and ready for release, and confirmed the game would be released on the 22nd, so there is absolutely nothing to be worried about as far as I'm concerned.

This is your little brother posting using your account right? Or atleast that'll be the excuse come the 23rd!

Aventurine still have ample time left to start and finish open beta and announce all the launch details the troll haters are whining about.

Well open beta has to finish on the 21st at the latest right? Open betas start at the weekend in my experience as they're a stress test and need as many online. So it's this weekend or bust for open beta. So OB will last for the weekend and finish which is satisfactory if it weren't for the 18 gig download from bit torrent! So the client needs to be available right now if anyone is going to be there to stress test this weekend, and it ain't!

In short your argument doesn't have a leg to stand on in reality, it's full of hopes and visions nothing more.

I totally expected this.

Well it's all for me grog, me jolly jolly grog,
all for me beer and tobacco!

The sarchasms are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I went down to their offices not more than a week ago when i made a quick stop on way back home from my vacation and the only thing i got when i asked for somebody to show me around was a 15 minute wait in the entrance hall ,lobby, whatever one might call it  before they told me that "the person in charge is currently preoccupied and i should try again some other time"...............well thnx for nothing!!!!!!

This can happen to you even if you visit a  friend without announcing you visit before...

Why you don't contacted them beforehand ?

1st. of all i didn't have their phone number and neither do i have it now since when i asked about a leaflet or a card or anything that would give info about the company and their product(s) they simply pointed me to their (haha) website!!!!

2nd. watch what i marked in green !! Not enough time contact anyone beforehand when only a couple of hours are between you catching or missing your flight!!!Besides, i wasn't visiting a friend .I thought that i was visiting "a professional software company" and whilst i don't expect a friend to hand me leaflet when i   make a surprise visit to him,  (e.x. sorry ol friend i'm busy atm here's a leaflet of my current activities and what i was up to all this time that should fill ya in), i do expect that AT LEAST  from "a professional software company"

3rd.  I stated it before that when Darkfall releases (whenever that might be) i'm not even bothering to spend a cent on it until after a good 6 months have passed just to make sure i avoid the worst. At this point i'm sticking by it and to add insult to injury  they  managed to earn my contempt as far as their PR skills are concerned .I don't care even if they  make researches  to find a cure for cancer in there, being unable to provide even the very basics to person that did bother to get all the way down to their offices is simply inexcusable if they want to call themselves "professionals" as far as i'm concerned.....

Iiii-iiiiiit's.... me!!! *Hooray*

I would think that if any the people complaining were launcing a game they would find it much harder to get press coverage than they assume.  Maybe you should be complaining about the press not covering it than the company releasing it.  Any magazine could easily write an article just based on existing material, do they no.  They could even write about lack of press access to the game if that is the case and they don't have anything else.

This can't be true..If Aventurine claims to have done this then I think they are lieing..Sorry..

There is simply no reason why any gaming magazines small/large or gaming sites would refuse to make a cover story of Darkfall unless they thought the company was criminals or worse..Maybe they are ?

I do not believe for second that Aventurine has made any invitations what so ever, else this game would be covered..Atleast by far more than the current situation..

Sure even the gaming press has to wade true piles of material at times and simply can't cover every game out there, and Darkfall may simply be considered a loose end by the press, and just a waste to even cover..

No Aventurine has a tight lid on this game, for whatever reason that is..:)
