"Give me control of a nation''s money and I care not who makes the laws" |
Granted reviews arent always honest or detailed. Age of Conan had several 9 / 10 scores from early reviews. Still its cause for concern when PC Gamer, mmorpg.com and others have had no opportunity to give the MMO community a sneak peek at the game. Darkfall hasnt been very forthcoming with information from the very beginning. And if you ask Tasos he's very deceptive. He was recently asked why it took so long for Darkfall to get to this point. His reponse was the game was just like every other MMO in that it took 5 years to develop. This is a lie as Darkfall has been in the works for over 7.5 years now. The game's first official announcement came on August 29, 2001. Yet somehow Tasos can state 5 years during an interview ? When I see dishonesty and a lack of information for 7+ years, I smell serious trouble. If a indie developer lacks the funds to properly market the game you'd think they'd want all the reviews they could get for some free marketing. Ive seen Tasos very defensive of this game. Ive seen the fans also defend this game as if it was the Holy Grail. What I havent seen is a sneak peek by anyone outside of leaked reports. What I havent seen is a box in a store with a prerelease date. Its not even posted on amazon or any other online store. There really is only one reason why they wouldnt want a prelaunch review... crossing my fingers but all signs point to someting just not right here |

Lets face it, MMOs today are turning into single player console games with a chat box included. |

Why no major site review? Why no open beta? Why no information about d/l, preorders, requirements? I think there are only a few logical explanations and they are all bad. |

And who would make that interview? We cant even talk here on a MMO forum seriously. |

Darkfall has, by far, the poorest PR and Marketing department of any i've seen.
Think about it. If they wanted easy, free press on their game what would they have to do?
They could write up a FAQ, some gameplay videos, and new screenshots...send them to 10 gaming news sites and big blogs.
Free and easy press. They could accomplish this in an afternoon. |

In addition, be prepared for the zillion posts pointing out that the game has already been reviewed half a dozen times - well there was that guy from some clan, that article from the woman's magazine, the Italian "journalists" (they were also enthusiastic followers of the game), and the author of the Noob cartoon (an excellent cartoon, apparently hosted on the DF web servers). |

Its human nature to show off something you have and are proud of, like a car, hot wife, big house and so on. To answer your question, I have no idea why they do the things they do. Tasos came off to me like he was not very excited about his product. It looked more like he was pushing it more than selling it. I think he was more concerned about getting investors than he was about getting a larger player base. I have seen nothing yet to change my view as of yet. Even a promo video before launch would be a nice change from this company. But I highly doubt it. Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries... |

Aventurine have always believed Darkfall will speak for itself and be the only marketing they will ever need. That's why they have consistently demonstrated the game comprehensively on many occasions during its development, even more so over previous months leading up to release. I defy anyone to name a single MMO that had more information, screen shots, videos and developer updates released then Darkfall has this close to launch. You have to appreciate that Aventurine also have to protect their revolutionary next generation secrets from competitors, and they are also respecting the expressed wishes from the majority of their players base to not reveal everything about the game pre release and spoil the excitement of discovering things. Tasos has constantly reminded us that the game is feature complete, fully tested and ready for release, and confirmed the game would be released on the 22nd, so there is absolutely nothing to be worried about as far as I'm concerned. Aventurine still have ample time left to start and finish open beta and announce all the launch details the troll haters are whining about. |

Yeah the bottom line is that if they had anything substantial to show as a real preview they would. Just like almsot every other game in development, ESPECIALLY AT THIS POINT IN DEVELOPMENT, they would in the very least be giving magazine and online mag previews left and right. Fact that they aren't is a real bad sign of a game that has a lot to hide. People will be running away form this game like the plague once it's finally released to the masses. The other bottom line - there is NO OTHER GAME in history that has had so much secrecy around it that turned out to be decent on its release. History shows that games shrouded in secrecy as much as this turn out to be major flops. There's a reason you don't see much info on Darkflop - and it has nothing to do with their pr relations. |

Weeeell yes. But I wouldn't apply it to a game though. Though the only thing that annoys me with it is that they claim to be making a game that has "it all" but refuse to throw us a bone making us go completely nuts on forums instead, drowning in assumptions and blind belief.

Because when half the games on this website were released they had a box you could buy in the store. Please gtfo guys. This isn't a game that needs advertising or a fancy box in Wal-Mart. There are several better arguments on why this game is a Dark and Light repeat, but "There's no box I can buy in the store" is the most retarded thing I've seen from the "MMOPROs" on this website. |

This game on paper looks like everything I want in a game. That said, I really have no interest in this game existing or not / releasing or not as I am tired of the fantasy genre and am holding out for a good sci-fi game. So if the game is released, I wish it well. Now Im going to speak as a consumer here. Based on The little bit of information there is at this stage of the game, regardless of the marketing tactic, says alot to ME as a consumer. It really wouldn't surprise me to find out that this company is run by $cilons. The game is so shrouded in secrecy like their "religion" Just kinda wierd.

I think it does apply to games as well. Even low budget games from china show off there games. Every game maker will strut there stuff and point at it and say "see how great this game is". It's because they are proud of there hard work and think its the best thing since sliced bread. It can only be called a game if people play it, And they will only make money if people play it. And the best way to get the most people to play it is to strut it. They need to start strutting there stuff. It was featured in Becketts Massive Online Gamer magazine this month but it wasn't an interview. Just a two or three page write up with pictures and such. |

I know I was being sarcastic. My meaning is almost every game in this website doesn't have a box you can buy in the store why is darkfall different. |
