The reason Funcom ie: Age of Conan did not drop there nda was they new the game did not live up to there hype and did it intentionaly. |

the lack of open beta and the effect of a still present NDA is achieving exactly what they want.. People are talking about it. It keeps the game in people minds and on various gaming sites boards. So all these posts whether by trolls or fans is adding to he hype. |

It tells me the game is not going to do very well or even a decent game. |

No it doesn't. It tells you that there is currently no open beta and that the NDA is still in effect. Darkfall will have to launch, and you'll have to play it to have insight to what you already said you think you know. |

I voted can't decide because this company does things so unconventionally as is who can really say what they will do. But I can say that the last game I saw to do this was AOC and we all know how that turned out. As I stated earlier they certainly go about there business different than others so I will reserve judgement. |

In the present state of the gaming industry, and the MMO market in particular, players rightly expect that adequate information about any given title will be available leading up to launch day, so that they can make an informed decision on the purchase. Up to this point, practically every MMO that has retained its NDA until launch day has fallen far short of expectations...the folks at Adventurine have to be smart enough to know that people draw conclusions based on past experiences, and that gamers will see a lack of information and an in-place NDA in the days prior to launch and assume that it means the company has something to hide. Whether you think that means they may have a sub-par product or that they just think that have something really special and don't want to "spoil" it depends on you, I guess, but the majority in this day and age are cynical and skeptical...I think it's safe to say that regardless of how good the game actually is, the lack of available info and marketing and the in-place NDA can only hurt 1st quarter sales. |

This is just not true. There are very few rapid fanboys left any more. Most players will NOT pay a dime to play this game on the 22nd with things going the way they are. (no real beta and NDA on everything). Most of us are content to just sit here on the 22nd and whatch the scam fall apart. If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available |

If you call mmorpg.com the vast majority of the darkfall community, then sure, they won't buy it. But truth is, it's the haven for darkfall trolls, now if you go on the real forums....Youd probably get told "Shut up they told us enough!". |

The lack of an open beta, the refusal of Aventurine to provide access to the game to any of the media can only lead to one conclusion. This game is a disaster waiting to happen. I have tried to be positive about this game and company, but the refusal by Aventurine to allow anyone to actually play and review the game can't indicate anything good. I will actually be shocked if it releases on the 22nd. Even if it does, you can expect lots of nonworking features. It is clear the game is far from ready to be released. Only time will tell what will happen with this game, but Aventurine will be used as a case study by many on how not to develop a MMO. |

Apparently this quote of Tasos means absolutely nothing: www.warcry.com/news/view/84209-Darkfall-Online-Tasos-Checks-In (from June 2008) "I never said that public beta would be two weeks. I said several weeks. Public beta will be as long as it needs to be. We hope and we're working hard so that it won't need to be very long. The clan beta will likely be a stage of public beta. The announcement of launch within the year is an official company commitment and it's not a guestimate. We're making strides with publishing in the direction where we maintain full creative control on the game."

I disagree.
The Official forums have many more trolls than these forums do. Yes, they also have many more fans as well. But atm anyway... the dissenters seem to be in the majority over on the Official forums. |

Keeping the NDA up till the release is a bad sign, i think the recent AoC fiasko showed us why. I wonder if there will be Reviews from Gaming magazines/portals at Launch. Does anyone know if the press even have access to the Beta?

Well all things considered, this game wont turn out like AoC. By that I mean there wont be a huge amount of suckers who buy it at launch. If anything that was the 1 good thing AoC did for this industry. It helped bring about more customer awareness. Caveat Emptor. I'm pretty sure that myself and most people here will continue to watch these forums post 'launch' until we see some tangible proof that the game meets a certain standard before deciding on whether to invest. Currently Playing Random shizzle!

Lol, joking man, yeah I pretty much agree with you. I think the signs SHOULD be pretty clear that this game is gonna be disaster, and that the only MMO its gonna beat is DnL in its suckiness.
I would just advise everyone to not rush and pay Aventurine before seeing the product on live. The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost. |

I've always taken the standpoint of being a fence-sitting skeptic with a touch of hopefulness till the game launches. If it's not what Aventurine says I'll just stick to my f2p games. |

Nice, honest guy there... yup, always sticks by his word. Things happen during internal testing, and of course beta that could delay it further. All an A.P. can go by is their scheduled launch. If an 11th hour "show stopper" bug appears, it could delay past 22nd. That in-and-of-itself is not Tasos' fault, it's just the nature of the beast so to speak. Some would say it would be bad luck if a "show stopper" is found, but I'd rather they find it, delay the game, and fix then leave in a potentially fatal bug at launch. |

Im a skeptic, and im buying at release if there is no free to try beta/trial. You my friend, are wrong.
why you might ask? I got the cash to spend, i want to see for myself how the game is, not read some worshippers "unbiased" review or some haters review (even if he didnt play the game more then 5mins at a friends hous). If i remember and have time ill try to post my thoughts on the game here on mmorpg.com.
My predictions? Ill not play it longer then a week is my realistic best hope. Theres 2 reasons: 1: Im a hardcore sucker for animations (running, jumping, CASTING, SHOOTING, etx) and the vids so far isnt primesing at all. 2: Wrath of the Lichking turned WoW around and for the first time since the release days i can actually say i play wow becouse i like it again and not becouse of friends >_> (Ok so its still the same old, but unthill Aion and EvE: WiS comes around i doubt anything will drag me away)
But as they say, Hope is the last thing that leaves the human spirit! FagerCraft - Feeding the trolls on mmorpg.com since 2005. |
