I have heard from MANY people that SWG is a bad game. i am sure that many of the people on this forum disagree. I am thinking about buying SWG. may someone please offer me a review, no matter how short or blunt, from a fan/forum-goers perspective?

Well thats good I don't like to write much

Some good stuff about the game

• lots of crafting
• huge worlds
• ITS STAR WARS
• tons of weapons
• you can be on the Rebel or Empires side

Bad things

altough the game is great in many ways I found the speed of combat travel crafting everything really to be painfully slow, so bad that it was a game killer, but that may not bother you

Oh and dancing wookies are BAD!

I did the trial up on fileplanet.. I couldn't finish teh trial I was so mad. Every time i 'd log on i'd get lag so bad I would have to wait 5 mins to find out i'm running into a wall and them another 5 minutes to find out OK now i'm running into another wall..

I have DSL mind you too

also when I did get to fight, i foudn the fighting too computer controlled for my likes.. Look if you want a good game, in my opinion, Anarchy ONline to date is my alltime fav. mmorpg

i (well my dad) has a kick ass comp, best stuff u can have in a comp 2gb RAM other stuff i dont know means and it still lags and unfortunately like many mmorpgs it got boring within a month

I played from Beta 2 through January 04 then quit for 2 months. I came back around March after hearing of a new jedi revamp and combat revamp. Quit just recently again in August. My system...

amd 2800+

1 gig ram

ati 9800 128 mb video card

soundblaster audigy 2

200 gig hard drive sata 150

The good...

1.) Graphics are just about the best around for a mmorpg (maybe Eve is a bit better).

2.) Can interact with star wars character npc's.

3.) big planets to explore

4.) crafting is very neat and complex

The Bad...

1.) Lag - unless you have a minimum of 1 gig of fast ram, you'll get a lot of lag. Back when I had 512mb of ram, the game was almost unplayable. The problem comes from a memory leak that SOE cant seem to fix after 2 attempts.

2.) Content - very little real content and what is there really stinks. Most so-called quests leave you scratching your head because the loot isnt worth the effort. The only content in the game isnt really content at all, just a few hard dungeons that are 100% camped by jedi for xp.

3.) Customer Service - Unless you are unfamiliar with SOE, you should know they leave a bad taste in most players' mouths. They are without a doubt terrible with communicating issues with players base. They ignore complaints on their forums even if the complain has 2000 other responses. They also delete postings and sometimes ban you if your post is too critical. Any issues in-game mostly get no response or a generic response that is never helpful.

4.) PvP - Not even done anymore as most professions are unbalanced since release. One + year later and SOE still hasnt balanced it (even though they promised a revamp 8 months ago).

5.) Timeline - Game is set between episode 4-5 yet there are hundreds of jedi running around. Also the battlefields are broken so no real war is happening. Doesnt feel like star wars at all.

Overall, the game is very nice to look at but not a whole lot to do. I stayed as long as I did because I was in a great guild and have some friends at work who are hardcore star wars fans and still play. Ultimately it reminded me of a really bad movie, you know you should just change the channel but you cant help but watch to see if it could get any worse.

I believe Star Wars Galaxies can be summed up very briefly. I speak from much experience, I was in beta for 3 months and played for 6 months afterwards.

Good:

The Star Wars franchise and living in the Star Wars universe.

Bad:

Everything else.

I have 512 megs of RAM and the only place I ever lag is Coronet.

There is actually tons of content. There are 4 "Theme Parks" you can do, and tons of NPC's everywhere that give quests. If you can't find content you aren't looking for it. It's not linear like most MMO's where one mission leads into the next, so if you want to be spoon fed you'll be dissappointed. The Warrens is probably the best "dungeon" and is never camped by Jedi. The corvette is instanced so can't be camped at all, so that leaves one dungeon that is actually camped and typically they camp the enterance so if you actually bother to go past that you'll be fine.

There are a few issues here. SOE is pretty bad with communication some of it is there fault some of it is the customers fault. There are people that will b!tch and complain that SOE did things one way and "it sucks" SOE would come out and say they are going to change it and would try to have the changes out by such and such a date. Well something comes up and the changes are harder than SOE originally thought (a common problem if you know anything about programming) then people would come back and accuse SOE of lying (yet at the same time praise Blizzard for WoW when Blizzard hasn't met a release date since the company was formed, but that's another story). So SOE found it was just easier to keep their mouth shut about release dates etc.

I have posted very critical posts about the DEV's and the game and NEVER had a post deleted or been banned (you can search for my posts on their site, my name is Jodokai on there too).

SOE does listen to their player base which is why when they tried to change the crafting system, the player outcry made them change it back.

This is entirely wrong. PvP goes on everyday. Depends on your server how much, but it happens everyday. As far as balance: SWG is a skill based system which is a billion times harder to balance than an class based system. Hell EQ has been out for 5 years and still isn't balanced

This is somewhat true, but the reason there are so many Jedi is because the players wanted Jedi in the game (sort of contridicts your "SOE doesn't listen" comment) and anyone who claims to have been part of Beta would know that.

Overall, the game is very nice to look at but not a whole lot to do. I stayed as long as I did because I was in a great guild and have some friends at work who are hardcore star wars fans and still play. Again with the amount of quests there are houses to play with the best crafting system around, if you can't find something to do you just aren't trying.

SWG is so boring right now I can't even log in. I came back to the game 8 months ago to test out the new features and quests. Everything was fresh and new and I saw alot of my old friends, even created the largest imperial guild on talus. Now, it's gotten old and played out. For some time now I've been thinking about quiting the game but the only thing that holds me there right now is my guild. I highly reccomending not buying this game... not at all.. or even the expansion. I'm in beta now and it's very boring... Nothing new... been there, done that... I really don't see the hpye of JTL at all. hey if you want to fly then play Janes, if you want to kill play WoW or something else besides SWG.

The fact is there is no high end content. The "Theme parks" are generic little quests that offer no depth or storyline.

2. Money is so easy to get that it has no value anymore.

3. There is no variety of items. everyone wears the same armor and uses the same weapons.

4. with the armor and buffs and food there is no reason to group. A buffed armored dancer or chef can easily take on 4 rancors without breaking a sweat.

5. everyone wants to be a jedi so nobody is playing the game anymore they are all grinding jedi and will be for the next 8 months.

6. The game is in the  worst shape its ever been now.

Its a sinking ship......dont get on board. if you are a star wars fan turn back now or be forever dissapointed.

Are you kidding me?? When was the last time you played? You go ahead and get buffed and armored and head into the Death Watch Bunker Solo, then tell me there is no high end content.

Again what game are you playing? There are a TON of weapons being used. Some use the T-21, the SSG still gets used for it's cold damage, Bowcasters are still used by wookiees. DX2 and DE-10 as well as the FWG5 are used because of different damage types, and I haven't even started on the melee classes

This is true, but there is the DWB and the Corvette (if you don't exploit) that you need to group for.

There is no more "grinding" to be jedi. It's quest based so you have to play the game.

Doesn't sound like you know what shape it is in "now" since you don't appear to know about any of the new changes.

Look jodokai I was just playing this game last night. I am already "glowing" with the force. So i do know exactly what im talking about.

I have been to the village and that is where everyone else is too. IT IS A GRIND. It is no different than before only this time you are just grinding xp instead of specific professions.

If you think the corvette and DWB are "content" then you and I differ on what that word means. If it means populating a dungeon with harder mobs then you are correct. IF on the other hand it actually means having a decent plot and some direction instead of simply being an indoor hunting group then I am correct.

This game is DOOMED and only the blind jedi wannabes will be playing it. I Played SWG from day 1 of release and I can tell you from experience son the game was alot better back then. When people actually grouped and very few wore armor. Guns were actually more effective than melee defense stacking. Docs went out with hunting parties instead of buff whoring. CMs used ranged heals in a group instead of poisoning everyone with overpowered mind poison. There were no chefs because food wasnt a big thing. People still pvped on a large scale and fights were actually won by skill and tactics instead of who had the uber buffs and armor or who had a jedi.

Its ruined.

Well, even though this game is boring as hell I have to disagree with you on that. SWG has high end content. But the problem is the content gets old fast because theres really no incentive for doing them. You may get a power plant for the AV-21 or a Barrel for the Beserker rifle but other than that it gets old to fast. Nothing beats killing a mob and you get a piece of armor from it. Even if the armor is shitty at least you got a decent reward. Really, there isn't enough loot drops in the game right now. Its just the same ole crap over and over.

Money is VERY easy to get. Run mock missions on dantoonie...

I totaly agree with you on this 100% - this game has been out over a year and Im still wearing comp or advance Ubesse... Sad.

Well, this is tricky.. I started playing from beta and launch. I do feel it was more of a challenge when no one had master doctor or master dancer. it made the game alot more fun and exciting.

Why not? it's star wars and tons of players want to become what they've seen on the silver screen. The 2 more popular combat professions right now is BH & Jedi.

Yes, the game is in bad shape. I come from chilastra server and I've seen some of the largest cities and guilds over the past 2 months disband. the cities have gone down hill and members canceled thier accounts. It's a sad thing to see. I will add this I love star wars and im no fanboy so Im just speaking the truth here. crazy shit has happened over the year and I would'nt be surprized if lucas hands the project over to another company to take care of.

Actually Our server has learned about the new doc buffs against CM poison and we have stun armor and synthsteak that makes the damage a rifleman can do of little consequence as we KD dizzy them and kill them while they cant stand up.

But you appearently don't know that Doc's can heal Dizzy too. So can Squad Leaders.

Well that doesnt do much good considering nobody plays squad leader anymore since the hologrind ended.

I have a master doc and we can heal states only if we are standing right next to the person. It also does the doc no good at all since we cant use it on ourselves while we are lying on the ground.

Not to mention the fact that docs rarely go anywhere. We spend most of our time buffing in a spaceport or on dath now.
