well first and formost ill say ive played everyon mmo out there but eve is always one i have read about and wanted to play.... so finally i made the decision... im gunna do it... but if im going to do it i wanna go big so ive decided im going to make 2 characters ... i want one character to be a miner and a hauler bc i know im gunna need to feed my main toon and my other id like to make that would eventually find his way into pvp of some sort....(EWAR or Logistics or any pvp support roll) thats what im primarily interested in and yes im aware that it will take time for all of this to be done thus having 2 characters i can mine and i can pve untill then ..

but id like good recommendations for both characters and i know anything is possible with eve ive heard all the answers from people in game lol but i wanan know for each too what is a good build .. race bloodline and all and what job to pick (basically a starting setup) for each type of job ive spoken of.. and maybe if ur in a corp thats willing to train new players just train not feed lol let me know bc i wanan earn my way in eve but i dont wanan reroll.. and again i know that every race is capable of doing everything but i dont wanan crosstrain if i can avoid it so keep that in mind thatanks for ur future input and i look foward to the results

you will need two accounts... two characters on the same account cant train at the same time. they are mutually exclusive.

i played maybe 45 days, i started gallante, trained up caldari battlecruiser, and was a shield tanker, passive regen, basically i was slow, but i could tank several battleships, npcs, that is, i never pvp'd, so might not be a good build for that stuff. but my logic was my ships are cheap, i can have multiple ships at various bases it was easy and cheap to get back flying quickly, the first time you lose a ship not that big of a deal, but first time you lose a tech 2 ship you will cry. unless it was given to you form another player or corp.

lastly, after month and a half, and with my ship a supertanker the game lost its challenge and became boring quickly, i like the game, i think its awesome, but its lonely, but maybe thats changed i left before they put the stations environments in, where you can walk around spacestations now i think. so give it a look, it may be excellent, but i think i will still like silly but fun games like earth and beyond. that game had soul. not realism.

have fun

keotsu

on a side note, the game is too vast, i know that is what appeals to most people. but it always felt like playing a 8 player map with 2 people you spend an hour looking for your opponent. now to equate to Eve, times that by 100 =).

if you can't shoot the one you want, shoot the one your with.

Just wanted to correct the previous reply.  Ambulation (walking in stations) has not been released yet.  We are still stuck in our ships.

A year to PvP?  No!

Waiting a year to get into PvP is perhaps one of the worst things you could do!  If you wait a year you will want to fly expensive ships that are really painful to lose, and, having no PvP experience, you will lose many of them.

Much better to find a highsec wardec corp or a lowsec piracy corp with minimal entry requirements and start PvPing as soon as possible.  If you have to lose 10-20 ships to get the hang of things, better to lose 10-20 frigates rather than battleships.

Another good alternative is to join EVE University or Agony Unleashed.  These corps can offer specific training in the fine art of PvP.

This is where most people get pointed when asking about starting characters...

wiki.goonfleet.com/index.php

Be sure to read thru to the "Recommended Base Stat Builds", I think you'll find what you're looking for there.

Welcome to the game!

marks4902,
if you want to be self sufficient, have fun and learn the game, fly small ships.

Focus your training towards interceptors. The ships are cheap, easy to replace and the least skillpoints is required to fly them properly.

Don't get fend off by their size since bigger =/= better in EvE. Fast ships are great because your success or failure is purely depending on your skills.

Here’s how I did it.

I started with two characters, both Minmatar Sebiester, one a soldier and the other a prospector. I trained up learning skills pretty early, but I was playing very casually, so it didn’t hold me back that much. With the soldier I stayed focused pretty much exclusively on skills to better his combat capabilities. With the prospector, the first thing I trained up was salvaging. You can make a ton of money salvaging, especially if you’re two boxing.

After salvaging, I trained up some basic industrial skills, things like improving his effienency when reprocessing and such. I didn’t go very far with this though.

Next, I trained him up on industrial ships, and almost right from the start I was glad to have a hauler for my main.

After that I started training up his mining skills. Once I was able to get him into a decent mining barge, I trained the soldier to be able to fly the most basic hauler, which should only take a few hours at most.

As of now, I primarily run missions, with my prospector following behind me salvaging up the wrecks. On weekend mornings and days off, while sitting at my desk drinking coffee and checking the news I semi-afk mine, using the soldier to collect the ores and shuttle them to a station in his cheap hauler. I’ve made a pretty good living for a noob doing this, and have decent flexability with my characters once I finally decide to play more seriously and join a Corporation.

Its hard to answer the question because EVE is not like any other game I have played before.  Its not like any bloodline or character type will give you any kind of advantage or disadvantage.  Caldari and Gallente are the most popular but if you want you can train up on their ships so its not like you cant gain access to them.

The only difference a race makes is when you join faction warfare.  You automatically have enemies that will kill you on site.  However joining is optional.

You can get into PvP in the first 1-2 weeks if you want.  Once you can fly a frigate and use some electronic warfare modules then you can get involved and add real value.

Starting out I would recommend doing some agent missions and maybe some low level dungeons.  That way you can build up faction rating, learn some combat and grab some isk.

Try and grab your first cruiser asap and move up to agent missions 2 & 3.  Just concentrate on putting skills into essentials then learning abilities that speed up your training.   To all level 3 at least.  Later to level 5 and get advanced.  Once you have a cruiser use that for agent missions to get the isk built up. However if you want PvP just use frigates as they are cheap.  Take your time to explore corporations as there are some great ones out there that will even give you ships for free to fight.

Alternatively if you don't want to fight you can invest points just in mining and mining ships and then sell the ore for isk which will help buy combat ships.

There is too much to do in EVE so don't think you are not doing enough, it can take years to explore everything.

BTW I also enjoyed exploration and you can find some great complex's that can generate a fair bit of income.

Hope this helps

the advanced mining skills are the same for al races
mining barge
you need inteligence for mining skills
also you need perception to get faster skills for mining barges

the best hauler is gallente using the ship iteron
for this ships you need perception

Second Best is MinMatar Mammoth

Its Not as good as the Itty 5 But if you plan to stop at 4 Its a Great ship.

Plus It looks Sweet :p

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Given that Dominion hits the server in 50 days, he might even be better off shooting for Assault Frigates.
