I've played many MMOs.... but this might be the first that gets an early cancellation. Every single person I know that tried AoC gave it up months ago. |

Yes I had the same experience with VG. I even went back to VG couple months ago, leveled a new guy on Seradon to level 12 and never saw one person. Never had that in AoC. Difference with AoC imo between months and months ago compared to now is a whole different ball game. It's in the twilight area, not quite difference between night and day but close. You should call your friends and tell them to take another look, plenty of fun to be had. You will have to ask them why they left though.

I agree things didnt go smooth at launch, and FC didnt live up to expectations etc.But thats all in the past.AoC is on the right path, and getting better and better. I really dont understand all this hate against FC and AoC.It's a game. It's not like you payed 50 000$ for a car that didnt work.Alot of ppl wanted it to fail from the start,it's like they felt threatened or something. Many writing posts havent even tried the game. It's ok to not like the game, but this much crap? And now the next hype is Darkfall.Another game that will fail, while wow gets another 500k subs.Darkfall will get killed from inside, just like AoC almost was.Just wait and watch the wow kids in action. But fck it,I love AoC and I know many more do.The game will be here for many years to come. |

lol, I find it funny that you criticize people for saying bad things about AOC without playing it, yet then you go on to say Daggerfall will fail even tho you haven't played it... |

Wait....daggerfall? And man, I can't stand people that smack talk other games and talk up their own. WAR is pure awesome, I can't think of a better game. On the other hand, I've never played AOC, and DF isn't released yet, but all I can say about those are EPIC FAIL, IMO. I mean, those games suck. I know this because I read about it in the forums, and that information is all accurate. But seriously dude, don't bag on my game when you haven't even tried it, that's so immature.

P.S. To the OP. I've never played AOC, but I've heard rumors of it getting better. I can't say trust Avery's opinion completely at face value...he's like a walking billboard for AOC. But I have heard that a lot of the release issues have been fixed, just make sure you get onto a populated server. Worst that can happen is you quit again after a month or two. Best that could happen is you find that you really like it now. /shrug.

I think AoC is a great game, I play every night, have masses to do, and really enjoy it BUT I'm posting here as I totally agree with the comments above. If you left because of bugs but enjoyed the game (when the system allowed you to play :) ) then great - come back its lots better now. If you hated the combat system, give a casting character a go (less combo's more wowish play style), but no game suits everyone. If you've tried both a caster and a melee character and didn't like the game because of the more realistic colours, lack of elves, or whatever - thats not changed, so as much as I'd like to see you in Hyboria my advice would be to keep looking for the game that suits you.

Honestly I loved AOC , my over 150 polayer guild just vanished in thin air so I also moved on to WAR , War is fun but not the 2nd home I was hoping for so I went back to AOC with a 60 days game card But then I was stuck with 4K+ lag the whole of those 60 days tried wvery damn fix that was mentioned on teh forumns but nothing helped .So when teh 60 days exhausted I returned very reluctantly to WAR Not willing to spend more moeny unless I am abslutely sure the 4K+ lag is fixed ,So waiting fo free trial the dev promised to bring back old players |

Played at launch and well we know what happened. I resubbed and I found the gameplay better in terms of less lag but there it still a population problem ont he servers. It felt like I was playing a single player mmo which i did not find very appealing. Until they start merging servers I doubt I will be back. The other issue is that this is 2009 now and new games on on the horizon for me. So in a sense it might not be worth it for me to spend money on AOC again. |

If AOC had launched in early December, I have no doubt that it would have 400-600k subscribers right now and would be able to hold a significant portion of them. The game is much more complete, the client is vastly improved, and players wouldn't have an easy excuse to quit " ah, warhammer is coming out soon". When two incomplete and 'bad' games get released together, the one that released last will end up with more subscribers. Warhammer has 250,000 players, AOC probably 50-75,000. The reason isn't because of gameplay at the moment.. its simply because AOC went first. Warhammer players really don't have anywhere else to go. Players really don't give MMORPGs a second chance on a large scale basis. AOC may jump 25,000 players here and there.. but it will never get close to the 400k it had on June 30th, or the 800k it launched with. If you are an ex-wow player and want to come back. Scroll of Rez gives 7 free days, boost a character to 80 a realm and faction change. Send me PM for an invite. Only 1 per day available |

Same.. out of over a dozen mmos, AoC was the first mmo I actually cancelled long before the first month was up. 2 weeks was all it took before I started getting bored out of my mind. The combat system turned out to be junk, the quests were nothing new. It was just the biggest dissipointment. It wasn't performance that was my issue, i never had any problems in that department. The problem was the 'core' as other people in this thread put it. The core of the game was just mind numbingly boring and uninspiring. The instancing was obnoxious. It was an onliine single player game. Even at release time when the servers were 'packed' it felt this way. Can't imagine how utterly dead it must seem now with 80% of those release players gone. I got to level 50 so I gave it a good chance but it just failed to impress on all levels. All of my guild felt the same as there was simply no reason to play this game past lvl 20, the beginning tortage area. Haven't once regretted cancelling. Switched to WAR and am much happier. I'll give darkfall a try when it comes out too
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. |

I'm not expecting it to be anything amazing but I'm hoping it will keep me entertained for a while. |

I think almost all mmo's end up having Population problems ; DDO,AoC, War etc.... Thats gonna happen as people come and go. The thing that gets me is that posters compare every game to WOW. I can see why though they did set the benchmark for almost everything related to mmorpg's. Please remember though not every game is like wow, they may have SOME similarites and thats about it. Yes Ive played War, WOW, DDO, just currently resubbed to AOC. Gonna give darkfall a try. Is AoC done? Not by along shot. Yes it was very buggy on all aspects of the game when released. FC has fixed alot of those bugs. There are still bugs to be fixed and discovered. There is no such thing as a bug free launch of any game. Games will go through "nerfs" all do. I have read many past players coming back to give aoc another try. I think Aoc will be around for a long time to come. |

Same thing happened with WoW. A lot of people were bored with WoW and wanted something different. When they saw the "different" in AoC, they went running back to WoW. When a new MMO fails, it makes us appreciate older, more polished, and more fun MMO's. |
