those models are great...the textures on the walls however...
overall the graphics arent that bad (they work on most machines and still look decent so its a win win for most). One thing i cant get over is how badly my eyes burned everytime i tried to log in MMO wish list: -Changeable worlds |

I always though FFXI had excellent graphics. I am always puzzled when someone says these graphics are not good. I have never been bothered by that kind of stuff anyway as long as the game is good. |

That DOES look great, who knew it's DirectX8. Can you tell us what your settings are? |

Even after all these years, FFXI still has the best-looking character models in an MMO. And the textures aren't bad either. Unlike WoW, FFXI's graphics have actually aged well over the years and don't look that dated. |

The textures are gorgeous, but I thought the models were really bulky, however in the PC version you can change the aspect ratio of the models so they appear slim and tall. That won me over :) The hands are still pretty chunky though. (,,,)=^__^=(,,,)Game Latte Vidcast |

I have always had a decent PC (multiple ones actually) and I also have a 360 ... I have never seen the graphics of FFXI look as good as your picture. What did you do to get them like that? |

Actually ... taking another look at the pic ... the angle of the floor is really off ... you can't turn the camera in such a way that they angle of the picture is possible. Nor to I remember shadows being that detailed (although I think i have them turned down, but even at the highest I don't remember them being that good) ... gonna have to call bluff on the pic ...

Have you tried registry editing? |

I have seen better screenshots. You need to tweak your registry to get the game to look this good but it is doable. You don't even need a very powerful computer. These screenshots dated 04/21/2006.

If you have a Nvidia card go into the NVIDIA CONTROL Panel and force settings on like below, or make a profile for FFXI with the same settings as these Anisotropic filtering = 16x AA = 16xQ Antialiasing - Transparency = supersampling Force mipmaps = trilinear Texture filtering - Neg LOD bias = clamp Texture filtering - Quality = High Quality
and then do this vnboards.ign.com/message.asp

Yep, I just tested it then and got mine looking that good, possibly better by turning up ALL the options in my ATI Catalyst Control Center, of course it came with a performances drop though But not a very large one, so I figure if you only turn a few of certain options up, then it looks this good, and plays good too. |

I think most peoples turnoff on the graphics is that they are muted compared to say WoW. I think the colors in FFXI help make it a more serious game actually - more for adult players than the bright kiddy colors on WoW. Yes, I've played both - I began playing FFXI in 2004 and WoW in 2006. I think the only reason people say they are outdated is because they're comparing them to a game like WoW - but playing FFXI isn't only about the graphics - its about the story and its freakin FF! How can you not love this game if you love any of the FF games? lol well unless you just don't like to have to interact with other people. anyway off subject for a minute - but the graphics aren't bad at all in fact this is my favorite i've ever taken and no this isn't adjusted at all -
But here's another one just to show a little more detail - oh and i've only cropped these photos and they were taken while I was on a old gateway so the resolution isn't the best anyway -

You are telling the person who refused to use windower (becasue it is cheating) and berates anyone who uses it (because it is cheating) to change the registry? |
