Journey to Unknown...

The sole reason a team is rather new to the genre and has not prooven anything so far is simply not enough to not allow for the benefit of the doubt.
Some have done it before and manged to pull through while others didn't.
I could care less if there is some chance we'd never see the game as long as Aventurine isn't asking any of us for money ahead of offering the service, like otehrs have done before. That to me is the significant difference in their approach and it serves us as gamers very well in my opinion.
Why do we have to bash them as long as they in fact didn't do any harm to us? It seems to be a perfectly viable decision to take the information at hand for the time being while waiting for the outcome. At least we have some chance, and not even a too small one, to see a game doing a change for the good to the genre. It's not like there would be an infinite amount of games like this, so I prefer to give Aventurine a fair chance like they seem to give one to us.
Given the years they invested into it, and I think it's out of doubt be now they did, as there obviously at least is a state of the game that nobody with a small team like they are could nail together in a matter of weeks, it's inappropriate to blame them of some planned scam as long as not proven otherwise.
If it turns out as just that in the end, it'd be mildly disturbing for all those that kept some close eye and hoped for DF to pull through, but it wouldn't mean the end of the world.

You've guessed it, I don't believe DF is a scam. I think it's a no name dev team with limited resource, struggling to pull thorugh and get the game out in as good a state as they can possibly do. That doesn#t mean it has to be just as good as we all hope for in the ned, especially seeing how a lot of folks dream up something on their own. There WILL be disappointed fans, even if or, maybe even more so, especially when the games is getting released, as like with every title in development, the fans tend to interprete their indivuidual dream come true into it.

As long as there are chances to see something new and fresh at all, that's absolutely enough for me to support it at a reasonable level while waiting for the outcome.
Activley working against a game in that very state is not making any sense at all, besides maybe protecting overly fragile feelings on an individual level. It's not our role as a community to go on some sort of pathetic crusade to try and save the genre. - Imagine people would try to do the same for other products as consumers (and that is all we are). I don't even want to think about how the next releases of my word processor or my car would look like.
Think about it, would it really be all that püelasurable to bring the industry into the state where it doesn't allow for new, unknown companies to bring some new ideas into the market, taking the risk to proove themselves? How big is the motivation of the large, established studios to go and take risks in order to allow for innovation especially for limited customer bases?

Hate Aventurine as much as you feel the urge to, it's companies like them the manage to bring innovation to the smaller niche markets or nobody. Sound reasonable enough to me to give them the benefit of the doubt, as long as they don't aks for us opening our pockets bfore they didn't have us take a closer look at the product.

I see your point. I don't hate Aventurine, I even care less about the company. I only care the product, and the relationship with their customer. So far Aventurine is just running a business by "words", but nothing more, nothing new, nothing exciting. Even tho I may find the product interesting, because of the relationship with their future customer is so bad, and careless that I have no trust in their work, business, and even the game.

And now I see from the interview with Curse.com, there is no mention of Free Trial, but only purchase the game.

Yes it does smell awfully a scam!

I've thought the same thing the past few months.  I would not be surprised at all if 1-22 rolls around and nothing comes of Darkfall.. then a few weeks later we learn about Aventurine getting another huge loan from their backers to continue development.

Would not surprise me one bit.

What will surprise me is if Darkfall actually releases on 1-22.  I would also be very happy if it is actually everything it's supposed to be.

Well, I wouldn't call it an update exactly and I don't think it's really meant to be one. It's a sign of life together with season's greetings form Tasos, not more and not less (which is good enough for me actually, as I don't expect Aventurine to put up any real update for Christmas really).

There sure is a lack of information and I can only hope more will come soon enough, the release date coming closer. However, I don't see how this would affect me as one of those awaiting the game patiently and hoping for it to turn out to be some refreshing addition to the genre.
There really isn't anything I could loose; as a customer I can only win a good game if everything works out. If not, so what? Who will keep me from moving on to what else might surface in that case?

By the way, Agricola1, it's refresing to see there are real sceptics around (as opposed to mindless doomsayers I mean). Your posts are making perfect sense and are pleasure to read.

Thanks, I kind of got bored from chanting "Darkfail ROFLMFAO!". Besides I realized I don't really want it to fail, since everyother MMORPG is a steaming pile of PvE grind anyway. I'd just appreciate it if Aventurine got thier shit together and started being honest about the situatuion of Darkfall. Some claim they are and just decide to refrain from giving information until neccesary. I feel that with thier past record of setting dates, missing them and not saying anything about it,  the onus is on Aventurine to prove to me that this is the real thing and not just another circus.

I'm really just waiting for SGW (prefer sci-fi), but if Darkfall was to be released as promised it might set MMORPGs back on the right track. The ideas of player housing and PvP with consequences, also real live events like having an invasion or story arcs each month need to be re-introduced to MMORPGs. Just having a shitty PvE grind and leaving it at that with boring non consequence PvP as an after thought has gone on too long in my opinion. I played MMOs where you picked a side and had something to fight for, now you pick the OP class, so that you have something to grind for!

The reason they're so mysterious is obvious to me. It's also obvious to you except you're not going to say it because YOU, Mr. Goa'uld speaker, are afraid to get flamed.

  1. They've got themselves running around in circles going apeshit trying to get this game released on time, this time.
  2. They're all under paid (some, like the CEO, probably draw NO salary) guys who decided it would be pretty effing cool to make a game like DF. Had they ever done it before? Nope. In short, they lack experience and because of that they're making up most of this stuff as they go along. No worries though, this is how most of 'em do it. I work for the CEO of a medium sized software company myself and you'd be surprised the kind of shit he decides on a whim.

That's it.

I'm not, neccessarily, insulting Adventurine I'm simply stating the obvious. I love the concept of Darkfall and I've already taken the 22nd and 23rd off work, I just hope i don't have to reschedule.

I share the same thoughts with above post. It is like, bunch of old MMO buddies came together, made a dream game on a paper and thought about securing their future financially.

Probably most of the Devs haven't had even proper education to code and design a game. It is like Tasos says to his sister's son "oh come on Kimborus, you can type, you know how to use a keyboard, of course you can code too".

It just screams like a big scam.

They showed some talent in design the right features on paper then if 260k people like that design..

There are many self-educated people just in that business...

but you litle hate talk is based on crap anyway ..

It was a nice gesture on the part of the DF team and Tasos.

I can actually say I've been impressed with the improvement of Tasos' PR skills in the last couple weeks.  Wonder if someone had a "talk" with him.

Bottom line is, skeptic or not, hater or fanboi, you haven't lost anything until they ask you for money, which they haven't yet.

Most of my own issues with this franchise are more issues with Tasos himself.  They simply should have had someone different in charge of PR, and they should have hired a real community manager..or taken a class or something.

The thing that I still find amusing through all these years is that they have a small team...like pretty small and are not professionals in this genre of online games. Basically to me they are the same as any small dev team who want to make their own MMO. Whats really funny is that all those other small dev teams i see in other forums get flamed because it is believed that you have to be some kind of master to make a MMO, yet DF fans act like Tasos and comapny are....i cant really say if it will be a scam...but when it does release i bet it wont be the game all of the fans are wanting it to be.

See theres one thing i dont understand. how can you "hate" this game? I know people dont have to believe itll come out or wont like it, but hate? I mean, if it comes with all the features Tasos said it would i just dont understand how you could hate a "next generation" game like this.
