Money in politics is the root of all political evil. It is corruption at it's worst.

I was initially ticked of by the crappy gfx but the gameplay, so far, makes up for that.

Basically this is the first MMORPG I have played (and I have played many since UO) where you can level exclusively by PvP.

Excellent thinking... only objection I have so far is that I havent figured out if you can really "win" anything. You can take over areas but then? Can you actually win over the opposite side?

Eventually when your in T4 and capped 2 Forts, you can raid and take over the Opposing city for a limited time to raid and plunder.

It's nice to see a positive post for this game for a change :D, well atleast a non-mindless one.

Yeah and I am quite picky when it comes to MMORPGs. Havent liked any of them since AC DT.

Was surprised that I had so fun in this game. I spend most of my time PvP and get exp at the same time. How awesome isnt that?

Nice to hear you're enjoying the game. There's plenty of us who are, despite what the loudmouth Warhaters would like everyone to think.

You are a genious ( I am not being sarcastic)
You managed to describe the good and the bad of WAR in a couple of quotes.

Problem for WAR is that the bad thing ( the do you really win anything) far out do the nice PvP leveling, and that's why people leave the game, because after a while of "winning" fried air, people just don't see the point in keep playing it.

But enjoy the run till it lasts.

To learn how to use a sword, one must first master when to use a sword.

Waaaaaagh!

Except not, because I play order.

I never noticed "crappy" graphics. They were always what I was expecting, and I think they are definitely on par with all other games out there, except for AOC, which doesn't count.

But aren't all MMOs repetative till they add new content?

I mention Warhaters and suddenly this. It kills them to know that you're having fun in a game they've "given up" on.

Keep it up.

Agreed. But a MMO that's repetitive gameplay after only being out on the market three months? It really boils down to: "We can take this keep today in this zone, or that keep in that zone, then go back to this keep in this zone later" for endgame.

That's the unusual part. The better MMOs usually takes 6 months to a year before a repetitive feeling creeps in.

Good to hear you're having fun though OP. That is what any game is all about. What class/level is your character btw? :)

Sums up how I feel.

I enjoyed the game but then realised it was limited in its scope.  Yes I like getting xp in PvP but PvP means nothing in WAR.  Death is light, victory is light and everything is instanced so it lacked that 'fighting a battle on a mass scale globally'.  Instead it pushes you through a PvP tunnel until T4.  I really wanted an EVE type mentality where players fought and guarded areas, resources etc.

They should have grew some balls and allowed players on one side get to a point where they own all the territory.  I would love to fight a battle from a last stand position.

But hey if you enjoy it then great.  I just expected something different.

I like these quotes /responses.

Nobody trashes the game even if they didn't like it or quit.. and they are happy for the OP (for finding a game they have fun in).

To me that's really what its all about.

I would say most MMO's are repatitive even AFTER they add content.  Because they don't "add" anything... everything is still the same just "some place else".  Some games the new area at least looks different with some new mob skins.

Some games the "new" area looks like some of the old ones.. with the 400th monster that looks the same just slight color change and maybe warts or something..

I had a LOT of fun in WAR for 11 levels...  I thought Nordenwatch was the best scenario in the game (yes I was in closed beta forever.. so unless they added something new then I still feel this way).

The pvp was fun.. etc..

After I got past that.. I was still having fun but things started to feel "grind" very fast.  Now see grind can be fun... you can be doing a grind and not even realize or think about it.  This wasn't the case for me here... I'm sure its fine for others.

I am currently trying to play again and for *me* nothing has really changed.

For the last person I quoted... ya to me I see absolutely nothing penalty side for the pvp.  If you get killed its just run right back for more.

My first MMO was UO... I had 5 extra setups in my bank.. because dying meant.. being looted among other things.

I am certainly glad for people who are having fun in WAR that they are having fun.  I'm a game player.. so I can appreciate "having fun"... but games are subjective and we don't all like the same thing.

Oh and last bit..

Basicly last night I was listening to some guy talk in general chat of WAR about how awful SWG Pre-CU had been (one of my favorite mmo's).  I didn't argue with him.. at first I thought... this is one of the people that got the CU and NGE handed to me.. how coulud you not love Pre-CU.

Then I realized that when I was crapping on WAR.. I was doing the same thing to somebody else.

My only real issue was after playing DAoC .. I wanted that kind of experience again.  Not really possible in DAoC anymore.

anyway.. enjoy.

Yeah same here. I would have loved it if players could actually take control of areas and had a reason to fight for something rather than just having every individual player following their own silly little levelling treadmill on their way to max level. Strategy? Tactics? Unfortunately the Mythic team just lack the imagination to do something like that. If they had paid attention to other games that are actually based on PvP (eg Battlefield) then things might have been different. Unfortunately Mythic were too focused on trying to beat WoW (which was designed as a PvE game) than actually make a good game.

its fun till lvl 20, then gets repetitive... u starat banging your head to the keyboard and realize its more fun, when u get to 40, u join the same BG over and over and over and over again and go cap the same castle over nad over and over again, and if u are not playing bright wizard or WE, then u wil hate the game even more...

Territory ownership would really turn this game around IMO. Being able to put your guild's name on a keep or a section would have been a definite motivator for more open PvP battles, which in turn would have lead to more city assault attempts. I'm not sure their plans for being able to place catapults here/here or moving the door or NPC to a different side in a keep or whatever is enough of a carrot inducement for most.

Ownership gives a sense of pride ultimately and encourages more people to join guilds, which would automatically translate into more organized RvR warbands instead of just roaming mobs of zergers. Gives you a goal to aim for other than just getting gear, which is usually the knock on WoW.

Would have been nice to have ownership of something tangible and concrete there while I was playing, it might have made a difference cause I thought the game was fair and boring, but not bad. Just killing for renown points got kind of aimless.

Actually I rather liked the game for the first few weeks but then I started noticing the same thing that you have. Lack of meaningful objectives. No you cant take anything for your side because there actual is no "side" as such. On the Order side you have a load of individuals following their own leveling treadmill. On the Destruction side you have a load of other players doing the same. The only thing you can do is take control of a keep and if your "side" holds enough of them then the high level players get access to the enemy city. Thats it. Thats as deep as it gets.

Even then though would it be enough for this game? After all whats the point of owning something if

1. You gain nothing from owning it

2. Other people are not affected by you owning it

3. Other players can just wander on by and leave you to it

So a guild plonks their name on a Keep. So what? Who cares? If however the owners of the Keep were able to make the surrounding areas more hostile to players of the enemy faction by increasing the number of roaming npc mobs then it might be a different matter. Ownership of a keep might even allow them to lock down certain areas for questing. There could also be a number of world effecting abilities only useable from with the Keep, such as being able to send an npc patrol out to certain areas once an hour........and the longer the Keep stayed under the players control the more defencible and powerful it becomes.

All of these are really just obvious and basic suggestions. Why couldnt Mythic think of any of this? Oh yeah thats right because it didnt fit into their "Lets copy WoW" game design.

Guilds are able to claim keeps and yes the name of the guild does show up on mouse over.

As for ownership of an area meaning something.  It does, but not perhaps in the same way you are all thinking.  In T4 it means something to defensively hold a keep to stop the opposing side from locking a zone.  Which prevents them from seiging your fortresses and capital city.

Strategy is alive and well in organized groups, though voice chat is essential.  Roaming zerg's do exist and there isn't much a small group can do about it (although an organized group of 6 can defend a keep from a zerging warband of 24).

So there are elements of alot of what is being said doesn't exist in the game.

 EDIT

"So a guild plonks their name on a Keep. So what? Who cares? If however the owners of the Keep were able to make the surrounding areas more hostile to players of the enemy faction by increasing the number of roaming npc mobs then it might be a different matter. Those are all really good ideas btw.
