I guess old William Shakespeare was wrong, a rose renamed Adolf Hitler just wouldn't smell as sweet. -for the overmind. |

Imo, there really should be a law against giving children certain names. I can't even begin to imagine the hell the child will go through because of his name. |

And that is why I say they have issues, not being able to seperate the conotations of the name Hitler from a simple cake request. No matter what you think of Hitler, it happened in the past, and there is no reason to get so offended over people naming their children after Nazis, because if they did it to offend people then you are doing what they want you to, but either way it really isn't anybodies business. No one was saying that the kid is a reincarnation of Hitler or that his parents are guilty of anything other than being neo-Nazi headline grabbers. This goes far beyond a simple business transaction and something that is a black memory of the people, even from your generation, of Holland and all of Europe. You may think that history is history and that it has no bearing on you or anyone else that is living in 2008, but you couldn't be any more wrong. History and the past resonates through the years, decades and centuries. Hitler and WW2 may seem like ancient history to you but the effects of are still being felt today. That the US became a superpower came from the fact we gained a lot of influence becase our manufacturing infractructure was left in tact we were the turning point in a war that the Allies were losing. Because of that we were able to establish a way of life that unparralleled in other times and most certianly to those countries who were ravaged by the war. You live the way you do TODAY because of events that happened in the past and so it DOES have an influence on you and others even if you don't realize it or acknowledge it. That is only one of the effects of WW2 has had on our world in 2008. Only lesser creatures have no sense of the past and its effect on the present and future. The past isn't dead or static, it is the very exsistance is what makes us what we are today. |

And if they won't make a cake because it says Adolf Hitler on it I think that they are also being immature. Who cares about the history of their country the kid had nothing to do with it, he just happens to be named after a nefarious character as are the other children, but it seems the cake decorators took it personally. For whatever reason they decided to name the kids that, I don't think there is so much a problem with the children's stupid names but more how negatively some people react towards them. It seems the people who are offended by the children's names have quite a bit of issues themselves.
I agree with cactusmanx here, I think it is stupid for the people at SHOPRITE not to put the childs name on the cake. The kid most certainly is NOT Adolf Hitler, and no one will be seeing the cake other than family members, or other nazi followers, except that is for the person who just writes the name on the cake. So if this cake writer never said anything, shut his mouth, and just wrote the stupid name on the damn cake NONE of this would be happening. There would be no forums post, or a waste of bullshit news. Honestly, do you people really care that much for this childs name.. ______________________________ What if Paul Revere was like the boy who cried wolf....? You and Catusmanx see this as an either/or situation when it's much more complex than that. Both of you and those who feel the same way seem to ignore what that name means to people, especially those in Europe and those who actually fought in that war. You can try write it off as "No big deal. Just a name on a cake" but if you scratch the surface you will see that there is much more to it. |

To me, this article shows the problem with US freedom. The idea that everyone should have the freedom to live life exactly as they please, sounds great - but it requires individuals that are able to govern themselves. So if people don't want to be responsible, there have to be laws - in this case laws against naming your child "Mass Murderer Racist Madman" which is basically how people interpret the name Adolph Hitler. The difficulties the kids will have because of their parents are pretty close to child abuse if you ask me: - they grow up in a culture of hate and racism, in a country with newly elected black president... - they will be bullied at school - they may feel less worth since they are named after one of the most hated political groups and persons - they will wonder why the f'ck they were born into this family - they will either have to break with their parents or become neonazis', I don't think the parents will accept any less. So either way it will be a loss, since nazis' aren't your overall cozy community. This is why US will have to have more regulations - there are people that simply won't be responsible enough to govern themselves. They will continue to f'ck things up until they aren't allowed to anymore. They wont stop because you dislike it, they just love to push the limits. It's not like it stops with the birthday cake, it's about continuing to make dysfunctional individuals in a society. I bet the parents had a f'cked up childhood, but even if they didn't they shouldn't be allowed to scar their children for life. my opinion anyway |

The fact is, they could've asked for just "Happy Birthday Adolf," but no... they wanted his full name there on purpose. They're disgusting, biggoted morons who are more than happy to ruin their children's lives with horrid names just so they can get a laugh out of it. Good for the bakery for refusing them. |

What if the cake were to have description like: - "11.september 2001, a success!" - "In Osama Bin Laden we trust!" - "Death to America and it's constitution!" The thing is, the freedom you crave are protected by laws. But freedom means lack of laws, so it implies the possibility to destroy the laws that are protecting freedom... it's biting it's tail. In addition the obvious argument is of course that if parents are allowed to choose their kids name freely, then any buisness should be able to choose their customers or products they want to sell as they like. What we have is a kind of semi-freedom, with laws that are protecting and destroying the same freedom. We have to look at the overall total picture, you can't just look at the individual when there is an entire society involved. If the individual is the only thing that matters, then we get a shitty society, since other people don't matter. And the society is there no matter what, and then you get people like the Campbells that basically screams for attention. They've gotten to the point that they want to be accepted the way they are, or that someone can come in and help them change. Just my opinion again. |
