WTF? Seriously, making a powerful character is a joke now. You should have played pre-BC when you had to raid hardcore or grind to Marshal/Warlord to be uber...and there was a VERY clear dividing line between raiders/pvp'ers and everyone else. Those days are gone. Now everyone has the same gear, and it's ridiculously easy to get. |

I did raid before BC and after until I left. See I never said i didnt have alot of time to play a game I just started hating following a schedule. It has nothing to do with no time to play, It has everything to do with following a schedule to get the best gear. Understand now? I never said I didnt have time to play, playing 40 hours a week was the norm for me back in the day. It was following a raid schedule that got to me. The feeling of playing when other people wanted me to and scheduling my life around a raid schedule. I found myself trapped and since I play games that let me play how and when I want I prefer them. Needing to log into the game 3-5 times a week for raids, then 2-3 times a week for arena then a nightly heroic run with guildies. then scheduling runs with lowbies to help them. It just gets to me. Other games are like this also, in EQ and EQ 2 you had to follow schedules and Lotro also to some extent.

You don't have to raid, if you can have the best PvP gear in game by playing 10 hours a week in arena and BG's and you can beat up the latest raiding guys in PvP. Who needs to raid then ? Owing the guy with the legenday weapon is so much more fun. He has no life while I am a better player with equal gear. My friend goes Wow fishing every weekend and even wins some fishing competition and walks around in greens and blues... and then wins....in Wow in the way he likes to play Wow. Wow can be played in dozens of way. You only want to raid. Very few players only raid these days.
Thats mostly the pvp stuff though. for me my enjoyment was always the pve aspect of WoW. It just feels more polished than pvp in the game. I think its cool that pvp players could actually get the best gear for thier style of gameplay with no schedules. But its not for me I like the high tier pve stuff. I come from EQ so im a pve fanboi in mmos with a Endgame. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

I hear ya. Gaming as a lifestyle (tongue in cheek) has hit hardcore, and people aren't rewarded unless they make a lifetime commitment. And in the case of WoW you have to commit to partnering with 15yr old "lifers" to get anywhere in the high levels. I've quit and rejoined several times. It's like MSG candy that once in your mouth extends spikes and chokes the very life from you. That being said, I'm reinstalling WoW as I type this. Sigh. |

I totally get the OP, because I have the exact same problem. I have always been very competitive, in real life sports, e-sports, u name it .. When i started wow pre-tbc i used to play every day for atleast 7 hours, but since i was still younger and slightly couldnt be arsed to do my skoolwork, this never rly gave any problems. I was able to gather quite a lot of the high end gear because I put so much work into my char and raiding ( anyone who was a prot warrior before tbc knows what a c*nt it is to farm cash when ur still upgrading ur gear). When TBC was released, I'd quit for several months, because all of the work I've put into it basically got reduced back to 0. But fair enuf, I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, so after a few months I started again, and immediatly got back into the same routine. But after being top level again for a while, raiding every night, I started to feel less and less amused with the game. I hated not being able to do anything in the evening because I had to raid ( not showing up for raids certain amounts a week resulted in guildkick ), and the game felt more and more as a drag. I've know gotten to a point where I just cant enjoy myself with the game at all anymore. Not because it's a bad game ( I would never have put that much time in it if i didnt think the game was amazing tbh) but just because I felt more and more like a company worker having to clock in at 6.30 to be ready to raid at 7 til 1.30 at night. I've tried several mmo's after WoW but none really grabbed my enthousiasm as much as wow did, and i doubt that any mmo in the nearby future will. I'm keeping an eye on aion since that seems promissing, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I think my record is 20 minutes in Org lol. As to the OP, grats on figuring out WoW isn't for you and I'm sorry it took so long to realize.
Personally, one of the primary reason's I play WoW is specifically because of it's casual nature. Between a shat ton of travel and family, WoW lets me log on for a few hours every so often and provides a lot of fun. I guess I'm lucky I don't have some obsession with feeling uber lol. Ico |

I really do not understand what you are compaining about. Endgame raid gear is far from the best gear in the game. Endgame raid gear pretty much only allows you to do more raids. The stats setup is usually completely useless for any other part of the game. So if your idea of competitive is starting in the middle of Dalaran having much higher PvE stats than everyone else, I guess WoW isnt the game for you. Your other options are -PvP at your own pace whenever you want for the actual most competitive gear in the game.... -Craft gear that is a relatively balance mix of PvE/PvP gear. -Run short pick up group dungeons and heroics for a very comparable set of PvE gear.
Did you play World of Warcraft like 3 years ago and forget to make this post until now?

Yeah, I guess they get a bonus for each mining field. For those who didn't try EVE yet, take out a miner in Wow and let him beat 10 minutes on one node and then return on a flight path the next 12 minutes to sell it off at a vendor. That would give you a good feeling of the basic EvE play. Oh and you'll never see your feet anyway, nor your legs, arms either. But they insist in calling it a sandbox. Because your spaceship is .... your avatar. Actually makes me think of Aliens and you are the Alien. No wonder they let the players do these things off line now. Yep you can play wthout playing EVE, ... makes for a great handicap for new players: they will never catch up those older players. And this guy complains of not having the best gear in Wow if you don't do raids. Never heard of heroics or Arena gear I guess. I answered his remarks, never got a decent answer. It shows he just wants to troll and hype Eve.
I'm not trying to promote Eve in anyway, this was a WoW thread I only brought up Eve cause someone asked, did you even read the thread? Eve is a good game but not for everyone, I would never try to push Eve on WoW players we have enough of you guys in rookie chat playing the game (like 2k new players everyday trying the game that are clueless). OH and I did answer you, you told me to run Pugs and heroics right? how the hell does that make sense since im saying I dont want to play since I don't like schedules, but still want to be powerful? Heroic gear is shit compared to 25 man raid gear. I want a powerful character not a welfare epic'd out toon that the real player look down on. Maybe you guys should stop trying to talk shit about eve and actually reread the thread. I don't like schedules it feels like I have to play a game like a job I never said I didn't like WoW just schedules that are required to become powerful. Hell I even brought up[ lotro and WAr as being similar thats why i don't play those either. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

If you don't want to raid anyway why would you do 25 man raids to become stronger?

Let me guess you only played Eve on the 14-21 day trial right? Only newbs in rookie chat talk about WoW oh and guess what those noobs are actually WoW players shitting on a game that they actually still play. You wont find one player over 30 days old in rookie chat, once you get into a corp (guild) if you start talking about other games and ruining peoples convos with that nonsense you will be kicked or killed. Eve players talk about strange shit like politics, sex, religion, Blance issues, Retro gaming and strange sci-fi topics they have way more interesting things to talk about then WoW with your chuck norris jokes. At least the OP and some of his "competitive," "have to pwn" co-posters have admitted their problem. That's the first step to a cure. It's so cute that they think "pwn" is a word.
Arguing with me will not make you right. |

It came to the point that I was lying to my guildies about Internet problems so i could play on my own on a new server. I don't hate WoW just the sick feeling I get when I have to follow some assholes schedule. I was the MT of my guild I was required to play seven days a week atleast 6 hours a night to keep those epics flowing or I would lose my job. understand why im burnt out and hate schedules now I did that for two years. I'm happy my wife played also or I would have probably been left by her. PLaying: EvE, Ryzom Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum |

I'm sure you don't just log into be worse than other players. Its a videogame with carrot on the stick mechanic, wouldnt you want to be a awesome player and out play people? Lets say you play a tank wouldnt you want better gear then the hundred other tanks in IF or Ogr? Wouldnt you want your friends to comeback from a pug with another tank saying how they should have taken you cause ur way better? and easier to heal? thats how these games work.
