Yeah.. I tried that.  Then I got baited and banned for 2 weeks.  Meanwhile, the baiter wasn't banned at all.  So..  Respect is something you earn, not something that you should expect.

The point that you're making a post such as this is great fuel for the fire of 'Biggest problem with the forums'

Yep, because here it takes no longer than 2 minutes to figure it out.

Problem is anyone can go around and report a post, and lazy moderators tend to just fire off one of those preformed "Troll" forms, instead to even briefly investigate the complaint.

Was reading a forum here and a guy who was giving very highly technical info (guy knew what he was talking about and even proved it). A driveby came around and called this dude an "idiot" and worse. He responded pretty well considering the trash thrown at him -- guess who got a moderator warning? That happens w-a-y too much on forums, especially commerical and cliquish ones, when moderators don't bother to RESEARCH who is sending a FALSE report.

So yes, ANY compliant needs to be investigated before firing off a warning.

my observation is that they cater to the stereotypical mmorpg.com WoW hater.  You can start a topic about any MMO you want in the Pub... but if you start a WoW thread its likely to be moved to the WoW forums.

Apparently WoW doesn't fall under MMO discussion.

I'd have to agree with you here. I've gotten warnings here for as little as saying someone is ignorant about something. Ignorant just means "without knowledge on the given topic" and is in no way an insult. They are a little too touchy on the warning/ban button at times but it is their website so I guess they can do what they want. Even if it does mean being "forum nazis" at times.

I've never had a problem with the moderation on here, although it is disappointing when a really interesting thread gets locked because it's started to get heated. And by heated I don't necessarily mean a flame-fest. Just a really good debate.

There's never ANY need to launch into personal attacks. You can quite easily point out when someone is wrong, ignorant or making assumptions in far more subtle ways than just calling them a moron. It's so much more fun to pick them apart and use their own stupidity against them by pointing out the flaws in their arguments and logic.

these forums (at least the ones i lurk) are good. you get to belittle games but not people. simple. when you cant draw the line someone else kindly does for you.

i've been to different forums where insults were allowed. yes, i had more fun there but things went off-topic real fast.

I could fill in even more now, perhaps I better post you in a PM. But better sit down before falling over of what I experienced already over here.

They have the Worst mods I've seen amoungst any forums that I've posted on.  I told someone they needed to get some sleep..

and I received a warning. 

It's really sad. I agree with the OP, the posters here do nothing but whine when they fail at getting their point across.  And if you call them a whiner.. BOOM..

I don't mind the warnings so much. I don't mind deleted posts. I wouldn't even mind being banned. To me it's a private forum and they can boot who they want. In general I prefer an more open forum but that's just me. What really gets me is that they change your posts. They even edit it so much a sentence can have a different meaning. I mean really, you put your ID on it. Actually changing someone’s sentences really calls in to question the integrity of the forum as a whole. I have never EVER seen mods do that outside of this website.

Had a 4 month ban communed to a 3 week ban for.. Get this..

Exactly. The mods here care *way* more about their advertising "partners" than they do about the actual users of the site.
