Now that is out of the way,my point was not to pick on you but to merely point out what i am glad you pointed out "All games are pretty much the same".This was my point,the game is only on par with any F2P typical asian game.They all use bright colours they all build their maps and design there game the same way.

There is however in a few of my points that show the game is lacking like the shadows i mentioned, no shaders,yes the rest is just normal AERIA games type stuff.The game engine can do just about anything i did some research on it.It actually to me looks like they tried to copy the UE3 engine,probably did steal some tech there,so anything that shows short comings tells me the effort put into the game was a quick one and not one thats shows effort.

There are other aspects as well,if you have listened to any of the sound effects or watched the animation effects,this game does not vault above the better F2P games,actually sounds and looks real cheap on many fronts.

I heard AOC mentioned.well if AOC with a smaller budget and smaller staff can put out a decent[better] looking effort why not NCSOFT?This game IMO will be LINEAGE with flying,they are going to resell L2 to you people and pretend it is some new game,new engine yes,but same game.I have no idea what so ever as to why the ypurchsed the liscense for this engine,everything i have seen could have easily been done on the UE1 engine they used in Lineage.I can only guess they got a real good price/deal.I never really played farcry past the opening locked up screens i got on my older PC,so i can't even comment on how good this engine is in a real game situation.

 

I think people need to look at the larger picture.

Part of creating a graphical look for a game is also knowing what all that is supposed to do.

So take AOC. Good looking game but when it comes to sieges or areas where there are a lot of players it has a bit of slowdown. Are the AoC sieges supposed to accomodate hundreds of players at one time? I don't think so.

But in a game like Lineage 2 which does have a great art design, you can get hundreds of players in one playce. Aion is supposed to be similiar in spirit. Hundreds of players. So you have to create avatars and weapons that seem to look one way  but are actually something else just so you can get all the players in one place.

Can NC Soft make a game with bleeding edge to tomorrow's graphics? Of course they can. Anyone saying they can't is just spouting nonsense. But why would they? Especially if there are supposed to be huge battles within the game.

Seems to me they made the right choices.

I know people have mentioned that it flows, and it does. The hair is not plastered....plastered hair cannot flow.

In my opinion they have made a game that rivals AoC for the simple fact that unlike Funcom they have taken into consideration what an average computer can handle with still having decent graphics. AoC's performance won't be amazing for another few years. Look at Eq2, the game was a disaster when it launched in part because of it's heavy graphics engine. Now it's fine or almost there. lol

They are not reselling L2, though I will agree that many L2 players if not the grand majority will jump ship to Aion because it's art direction is very similar, or even pretty much the same. However Aion's engine and what has been implemented is years ahead and much better. You could say they are selling us Lineage 2.05: The noob edition.

Visually speaking, it looks great. I just hate the art direction because I hate pretty much anything anime - guys look like girls, girls look pre-pube, big eyes/little mouths, etc. Not my thing. Not dissing anyone who does like anime, it's just not for me.

mothaf&&&kers are on crack if they think these graphics suck! aion is beautifully stylized in all its anime-manga juicy goodness. based on the gameplay features ive read I am looking forward to this game. I am certain similar to LOTRO they will have a high-resolution texture client.

Good post. This is an example of someone who can tell its good art, just not his cup of tea.

BTW: Have you seen the Character Creation videos on Youtube, Puuk? You really can make your guy as manly as you want and your women as old as dirt^^ Very intense creator they have included almost making it a lock you will never see two people who look alike.

I don't get what all the bitching is about.  The game's graphics are amazing in comparison with other MMOs and may very well set the standard for future MMOs.   The variations in appearance and attention to detail move this game ahead of all competition at this point.

Why do people call that "bad graphics"? If these graphics are too bad for you, might want to go play something like Anarchy Online (no hate, it's a good mmo) or something. I think that people these days focus to much on graphics that if the graphics are good, your most likely to play it even if the game was bad.

Last time I checked, the Crytek engine doesn't fall under the category of 'bad graphics.'

Technically its a modified version of the CryEngine 1.0  , im sure you are familiar with the game farcry.

The graphics are beyond good. I just don't agree with the complaint, and if aion is bad i want to see what you think is good.

Well I downloaded the chinise client and a emulator so you can make a toon. So I can play or try OB on the 15th or somewhere in there.  Man can you change anything you want. Kinda makes no difference if we like it or not its a hit over there. This is a PVPVE game. And some of you are bashing the graphics, the screen shots HAHA. Ok what MMO is better? Dont even try AoC that has more flaws then Aion and its been launched amost a year. But that goes to show you nice graphics DONT make people play. 

To have PVP you have to cut things out, make it fast. And if you like, love anything that looks like, seems like Anime then this game looks very nice. So if you dont like it dont play it :)

LOL look what I started and now I really do not even care for the graphics. I use to be a huge fan of graphics like Crysis and any game I played needed to be 1920 X 1080 or higher with anti alias of 16 to 32X now I really do not care for graphics. You know I played Diablo just for fun since its been years and I had the best time of my life playin that game for the short period. It really is about game play if you do play an mmorpg that you truly love for a long time you become blind to the bad or great graphics.
